I’m from Detroit. Proud of my city, and I appreciate how so many great legends came out of that town. No other artists can ever compare to the Motown legends.

I went to Hitsville in 2015, and it was hands down one of the greatest experiences of my life. The tour of the museum and Barry's home were unbelievable! When they opened the door to the studio I couldn't believe they actually allowed you to stand in it. I had tears in my eyes. The coolest part of all was our tour guide, he was actually Stevie Wonders Godson, true story. So happy you got to experience the tour. Love the video, thanks for sharing.

Motown was my era, I have driven by Hitsville U.S.A. many times but never stopped in, but you have inspired me to do so. As I age, let a Motown record be played and I'm a sixteen year old all over again dancing with my grandchildren! Thanks Jordan. (Thank you for the beautiful postcard)

Born in 1958 so grew up on this stuff. The documentary "Standing In The Shadows Of Motown" is a must for Motown fans, who've hopefully seen it already. Also James Jamerson, what an incredible bassist.

I have friends family who live right across the street. I’ve been able to spend time there and after all this time the energy is electric. I love Detroit. It’s so magical- history everywhere. It’s such a mistreated misunderstood city.

Its crazy how the entire business is just in the open in a normal neighborhood, that could never happen today, it had to be fans always in front of the studio asking for autographs and im surprised they didnt get robbed

In the 60s I was still in Elementary school, but loved the Motown sound. I grew up listening to all the stuff from the 50s like Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, Motown, Beatles, The Dells, Delphonics, Roy Orbison, the Doors and all in between. All the music back then was the greatest in history. So much variety because so many groups had their own unique sound, and you could actually sing along. Music was cool, cars were cool. The hits just being pumped out week after week after week. by the late 70 and early 80s things were changing for the worse. Disco then hip hop and rap, its been spiraling down ever since to what we have today which is basically nothing.

We're from Australia , We visited The Motown Museum in August this year - Loved the tour of the place - We were riding the Q line tram back to downtown where the tram conductor told us of a block party the city was putting on that afternoon - We went to the party - They gave us free food and drinks and free entertainment - The Temptations took the stage and played for about a half hour - WOW what a day .

Jordan, this vlog, is iconic! You were the perfect Historian to give us this tour! Smokey & the Supremes were kids who grew up in the Brewster Projects! Smokey started writing songs as a kid! Florence was the one who got Mary and Diane; which was Diana's real name, together to form their group! I have heard some very good stories, growing up from my Dad! All of his Artist, would sing on each one's records or be the Receptionist! Aretha Franklin and her family moved there when she was 4 or 5! They lived in a Mansion due; to her father Rev. C.L. Franklin; being a Famous Minister! I love all of their music and each song, makes me either, feel amazing, fall in love; but never feel sad! 💕🎶🎹🎶💕

I recently found your page and this video, I lived in Detroit my whole life and (sadly) have never taken the tour. I found out some months ago they have purchased those houses you pointed out they used to own once again and will be extending the museum so you might have to take another trip to check that out when it’s finished. Oh and I love the channel, keep up the great work!

Thanks for sharing this video. All other videos of the Motown studio that I've seen only ever seem to show the front of the Hitsville building and a short glimpse of Studio A. You spend time looking around the studio and also show Hitsville in the context of the other surrounding buildings which really helps place it in a geographical context.

Hi Jordan! I LOVE sooo many groups from Motown and grew up with this music! Many of these songs are timeless! I was fortunate enough to see some of the artists in the Fox 97 Oldies Concerts in Georgia back in the mid-late 1990’s. I still have those concert tickets and autographed pictures from those wonderful times. Barry Gordy was a genius! Hard working man that made his dreams come true. Just goes to show determination, patience, and persistence pays off! Thank you so much for the history of Hitsville USA/Mr. Gordy’s residence. Man, just sooo cool to walk in a place where so many artists became famous! I am sooo glad Hitsville USA has been preserved in it’s time. That was very nice of Sir Paul McCartney to help refurbish the piano! Holy cow, what a crappy rental car place! Noted! Thank you Jordan and Happy Holidays to you and little Jah! 🦁

Xlnt Vlog about Motown!! What a genius Berry was! One slight correction: it was Martha and the Vandellas that were singing on the 1965 Mustang production line. Pretty awesome to see the video on Utube, never would be done today, really reflected the optimism of the era!! In the late 70's I went to Berry's Homby Hills home for a service call. As my friend and I arrived at the back gate, I remember 2 well dressed men, with suits on, seemingly stepped out of the hillside bushes, to verify that were were legitimately called there for business. I got the impression that they were packin' some serious firepower hidden in their suits. We went there on 2 separate occasions, and got the same reaction, (or check out), by the well-tailored security crew! I never once saw Berry though!!

Wow Jordan, that was an awesome tour!! Like you, I love Motown, my favorite music and it was such a treat to see where it all started! It's hard to believe that they created so much iconic music in such humble surroundings! Goes to show you the talent of those artists, they had such basic instruments and tools to make such beautiful music, not like all the electronic stuff today! To think that Berry Gordy lived upstairs to the studios is unreal too, just imagine all those amazing singers and celebrities who went through that door! Thanks Jordan, this was amazing!
