Inside Nigeria’s Most Dangerous City 🇳🇬

In this video, I take you deep into the heart of Lagos, Nigeria, to explore the vibrant and bustling Oshodi Market for the very first time! Join me as I dive into the sensory overload of sights, sounds, and smells in this iconic marketplace. Throughout my journey, I encountered this recurring theme of locals' persistently requesting for money. Whether it was a street performer seeking compensation for their talents, vendors hoping for a few extra Naira, or just random passersby blatantly asking for money, the solicitations were constant.
It was a stark reminder of the economic disparities that exist in this dynamic city, and I'll share with you how I navigated these encounters with the utmost respect and understanding. Despite these moments, Lagos stole a piece of my heart with its warmth, resilience, and unwavering spirit. Join me as I navigate through the colorful markets, intense interactions, while immersing myself in the rhythmic beats of Afrobeat music pulsating through the air.

@@simonozomma2298 but yet you'd be quick to present Banana Island as the accurate representation of Lagos, right ?
@TopeA8
@TopeA8 2 месяца назад
@@pietrojenkins6901 More people actually represent Lagos as Makoko than those that represent it as Banana Island. It's not even close. The average neighbourhood in Nigeria looks nothing like Makoko. Makoko is a peculiar neighbourhood, because Lagos is the #1 attractor in the whole of West Africa. More people are pulled there than any other city in West Africa. Makoko is not a representation of Nigeria's poverty, otherwise everywhere in Nigeria would look like that. What it represents is the West African scramble for Lagosian Real Estate. In fact, what a lot of Westerners do not realise is that many of these communities are filled with illegal immigrants (i.e. non Nigerians). Try to go to ANY of these communities, Makoko, Kuramo and tell me you will not hear non Nigerian languages! It IS a misrepresentation of Nigeria. The Nigerian government is just usually relaxed on illegal migration. The average place in South Western Nigeria and perhaps Nigeria as a whole, looks something like Ibadan. Oshodi itself is not so atypical in built form, but very atypical in population density and activity. Foreigners are NOT drawn to Nigeria as it is everyday, they look for the clickbait. It would be like going to Los Angeles and focusing on Skid Row.
@TopeA8
@TopeA8 2 месяца назад
@@pietrojenkins6901 Another interesting fact is that the geographic area of Eti Osa is far bigger than the underdeveloped areas that foreigners fixate on. So funnily enough, areas like Banana Island ARE actually a bigger land mass than areas like Makoko, Ajengule, Kuramo etc. If Nigeria tightened its borders, we wouldn't have as much population density in those small communities.

Iv'e been to Lagos quite a few times and I have never felt threatned, I found the people extremely helpfull and generally very friendly. I love walking around and I have been to Oshodi Market. As an Oyybo married to a Nigerian woman I have been In Nigeria ioff and on for 25yrs and I can honestly say I really like the place faults and all. Nigeria's greatest asset is it's people. To me Lagos is NOWHERE near as threatning as Johanesberg - now that IS bad.

I come from both indigenous American and African American backgrounds and flirtatious banner can 100% be the norm - we’re black (although black people aren’t a monolith) this kind of jubilance is just how we interact with each other. Oftentimes laughter can be one of life’s greatest healer, particularly in trying times. I implore you to try not take life so seriously and literally. @@liweao874 Nigeria is safer? are u for real? i doubt u have stayed in Nigeria for the past 3 years till now. the kidnapping is something else. coupled with unknown gunmen and herdsmen bandits ravaging villages and certain city riots in the north. You dare not walk in the night especially cities like Port Harcourt, and Warri in the south. Lagos just seems safe because there seem to be attention of greater investment opportunities; but during the 2023 election there were serious vices; even the following weeks after election; and those periods the police force were silent. The herdsmen bandits have encroached from the north, middle belt to the south. Where u aware of the village slaughter this same year in Delta State. A whole village o, where you aware of how herdsmen stormed ekiti state and certain villages in Oyo state and killed people with two monarchs and kidnapped some children. coupled with the untold corrupt leaders corruptive influence. Are you aware of the hyper inflation, unstable economic crisis and mass kidnapping of school children some times adult and you keep arguing with me. Don't argue this issue with anyone o. They will think you are not aware of what is happening and they might not take you seriously. Just don't reply my comment, instead take correction and keep staying and enjoying life where you are in overseas.

Why did I feel like you were like a little white rabbit falling into a pack of wolves from the beginning, haha! I'm sorry that you encountered random passers by blatantly asking for money again! Please always remember that the problems they face are the responsibility of their government, not you, you are too kind! Most of us would be very upset when faced with the same problem, but you always protected yourself by remaining calm! This episode makes people understand that wit and humor are good communication tools. In a foreign country, this tool is very important! This is still a very positive episode. Thank you very much for introducing Nigeria, a country we are not familiar with! Thank you also for sharing how you navigated these encounters with the utmost respect and understanding. Well done! 👍🥰👏
