11:47 As Japanese, I found it funny that Connor would mention "writing competition" as, in Japanese it can be translated to 写生大会(Shasei-Taikai) and the word Shasei(meaning "writing") sounds exactly the same as the word for ejaculation which is 射精(Shasei) so props to the Cdawg for the intentional/unintentional joke. I live in Philadelphia (PA, US) which has super common rampant bed bug infestations 😣 I’ve had them one time, basically I had to move out and throw away everything I ever owned, all my clothes and everything. This was in 2017 and still to this day I compulsively check every.thing. All pillows, mattresses, under the seams and stitching in all clothes and bags/backpacks, shoes, EVERYTHING!! It’s borderline obsessive 😖

I watched this then looked into it apparently lots of love hotels are basically homophobic and refuses service to same sex couples even though it’s illegal to discriminate against people for there sexual orientation but even if you report them to the police all that happens is they just tell them they can’t do that and that’s it there’s no real ramifications for there actions.

Actually, it isn’t illegal to refuse service to anyone the hotel wants to. Discriminating same sex marriage is actually not banned by any law except maybe some local places. Places like Shizuoka are pushing for gay rights, but most of the rest of Japan can’t really give a shit to gay snowflakes. It’s tough luck when people who act weird are treated as weird.

Gay people being seen as negative or socially unacceptable is actually pretty recent in many regions when looking at a historical time-scale. For example, homophobia in the West is largely just a Christian invention, further exported and forced upon colonized regions. Homophobia, or more broadly Queerphobia, is not some natural null-position of society or humanity. It's an artificial prejudice that only moves from its own inertia, and it can be eliminated. Don't lose hope.

I swear this is one of my absolute favorite videos on RU-vid. Not only is the whole concept and the individual hotels interesting, but the running commentary between Connor and Chris never fails to make me laugh. Two handsome guys cracking dry jokes while reviewing strange love hotels, with the occasional post-filming comments, is just so perfect. I wish they would do a sequel to this, maybe revisit the hotels that turned them away and some others with Aki or Sydney or a different woman YTer-or maybe even Natsuki!-to get around the conservative knee-jerk rejection. i know it's cheap and questionable, but going to a love hotel is on my list of things to do when i finally make it to japan on vacation. I think it would make for a very silly date/night out that's quintessentially japanese, and couldn't be experienced in quite the same way anywhere else. Very 1970s american love hotel/honeymoon vibes but maybe a tiny bit more renovated and streamlined.

My elderly dad really wanted to see Japan, and so he booked us a trip there. It was quite awkward when we got to Nara, where he had accidentally booked a love hotel. It was a good hotel and it was fun seeing all the oddities they had put in there, including a tv in the bathtub and a gigantic projector next to the bed. The real awkward part was getting into a taxi with dad and seeing the drivers face when we said we were going to "hotel Love Garden"

I know Japan is culturally still very "conservative", but I was quite surprised how aggressively two men would be turned away at a love hotel despite the anti discrimination law reform.. I mean honestly, a love hotel is supposed to be all about anonymity, what does it hurt the business even if two men were "going at it"? On top of what Weird Name said I think the hotels in the video also felt comfortable breaking the law and aggressively turning them away because they are foreigners. The law is pretty niche and I doubt many foreigners in general would even know about it. Hell the guys didn’t know till after they filmed the video. The hotel staff pry are conservative/homophobic, and given they are a higher quality hotel, pry just felt full of themselves and assumed they can get away w it easily. Hopefully lgbt+ fans who do live in Japan can give those hotels bad ratings or notify a department about the discrimination 🤷

That last hotel was a really good deal for a night's sleep and 'service' for the amenities you get in return... Sauna, Bath, Shower, Two Beds (one for the S, the other for the other S), Foot Massager, Back Massager... You would never find all that in many 5-star hotels around the world.
