Pixar’s Inside Out 2 (2024) full movie review, Easter Eggs, and details you missed! Let our sponsor BetterHelp connect you to a therapist who can support you - all from the comfort of your own home. Visit betterhelp.com... and enjoy a special discount on your first month.
Inside Out 2 is Pixar’s sequel to Inside Out (2015), a story about the emotions Joy, Sadness, Fear, Anger, and Disgust, meeting four new emotions that come with puberty: Anxiety (Maya Hawke), Envy, Embarrassment, and Ennui. Erik Voss breaks down all the Easter Eggs you missed, including a sighting of Bing Bong, references to Toy Story, Turning Red, Soul, and the upcoming film Elio, and more!
The little voices inside Riley’s head know her inside and out-but next summer, everything changes when Disney and Pixar’s “Inside Out 2” introduces a new Emotion: Anxiety. According to director Kelsey Mann, the new character promises to stir things up within headquarters. “Anxiety, voiced by Maya Hawke, might be new to the crew, but she’s not really the type to take a back seat,” said Mann. “That makes a lot of sense if you think about it in terms of what goes on inside all our minds.” A trailer, poster and film stills are now available for what promises to be the feel-good (or feel-everything) film of Summer 2024.
Disney and Pixar’s “Inside Out 2” returns to the mind of newly minted teenager Riley just as headquarters is undergoing a sudden demolition to make room for something entirely unexpected: new Emotions! Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust, who’ve long been running a successful operation by all accounts, aren’t sure how to feel when Anxiety shows up. And it looks like she’s not alone. Maya Hawke lends her voice to Anxiety, alongside Amy Poehler as Joy, Phyllis Smith as Sadness, Lewis Black as Anger, Tony Hale as Fear, and Liza Lapira as Disgust. Directed by Kelsey Mann and produced by Mark Nielsen, “Inside Out 2” releases only in theaters Summer 2024.

I am a pediatric psychologist and myself, along with my colleagues, adore Inside Out and often utilize it in therapy with clients to help explain emotions. Inside Out 2 was just as impactful. I particularly loved the moments as Riley is calming/recovering from the anxiety attack. One coping skill we teach is using your 5 senses to ground yourself to your physical reality when you are having an anxiety attack. When Riley is calming, the animators focus on the feel of her hand on the bench, the sound of the hockey puck on the ice, her eyes as she looks up for the first time. What a lovely and accurate representation of grounding oneself!

I am not a psychologist. I am a disabled mom of 3 girls with CPTSD and an unhealthy obsession with learning about psychology and mental health. I OFTEN use Inside Out to explain the value/validity of and need to feel our emotions and not "surpress" them to both my daughters AND my adult friends. Inside Out 2 is a furtherance of this, and a message I wish I had been taught as a child... the difference between anxiety helping and hurting us. My 12yo and I cried together during the anxiety attack scene as we both are susceptible to panic attacks. The way they portrayed the paralysis that anxiety can provoke when at its worst. I believe both of these films to be a necessary lesson in emotional intelligence that should be mandatory to children and adults. That you for the work you do.

When Joy says she doesn’t know how to stop Anxiety, the end made sense to me. She told Anxiety to “let go” and at the end when Riley is calling for Joy it’s as if Riley was choosing to be happy. Hence, letting go and choosing to be happy is the way to calm anxiousness. I loved every second of this movie and cried so hard lol

Friendship island being bigger than family island is also a reference to how in puberty kids (or well teens) stop looking for confirmation, help, advice and connection in their parents/family, but with their peer group (also because of wanting to fit in & finding yourself).
@mrnoname5183
@mrnoname5183 3 месяца назад
Yeah, that part actually made me sad because it’s so true. Also it’s important to note that family island didn’t SHRINK. It’s just that friendship island grew to overshadow family island and to me, it kinda shows how as we grow older the friendships we make do become more important and tend to overshadow family. It’s both a good and bad thing

@mevb
@mevb Месяц назад
@kay-jay1581 Actually, teens distance themselves from their parents and focus more on their friends, spend more of their time with them, less with their families and so on. Turning Red is a great example of that concept. It's when they're in their college years that they get a bit closer to them again but less than when they're kids.

When anxiety said "I just wanted to protect her" That's when I felt a tear on my face. Because that is essentially anxieties job. They're completely correct with their introduction, they protect us from things we cannot see. But like the first movie, it shows too much of any emotion can be a bad thing. In the first movie it was too much joy, and now it's too much anxiety. Which I think is a very clever theme.

Pouchie was definitely a mostly spoof from Mickey Mouse clubhouse, not necessarily backpack from Dora. In that show they say “oh toodles” in the same exact mannerism that they say “oh pouchie” in this movie. I really love this entire movie, but I think one of the most powerful moments to me was how Riley’s imagination changed. When she was a kid, she used her imagination for all of these fun impossibilities and wild ideas but in this film, it was hijacked by anxiety to imagine all of the worst case scenarios. This felt so incredibly relatable. When you’re a kid, all you’re thinking about are the good things, the fun things, the silly things but as an adult, a lot of your imagination is used to think about more grounded events and scenarios showing that as we grow up, we often have less ability to use our imagination for those fun things because it’s so busy thinking of all these complex possibilities of our lives.

I also like how besides joy, anxiety seemed to communicate with sadness aswell vs the rest of the original emotions. Not sure if I’m looking too deep into that. But really, anxiety seemed to be able to understand sadness to a point and relied heavily on embarrassment to deal with other emotions. If you think of it anxiety is often based around fear and embarrassment and it’s closely connected with sadness. It competes with joy and empathizes with sadness to trap them both

Dude I love your enthusiasm, and the first movie also meant a lot to me. I was going through depression and the first movie made me realise how important and healthy Sadness is: for a couple of years, if only I allowed myself to cry and have a good talk with my friends and family (instead of pretending that everything was fine) I would have never had depression to begin with. It is more than OK to be sad. Sadness helps you cope with the pressure of life and ultimately, it helps you stay mentally healthy and happy. It’s when you have no emotions left that you should be worried (bc that’s what depression is)

That’s so cool that your wife worked on the film! What did she do? I really appreciate this breakdown of this amazing film! Your love and care for film and how you cover it is beautiful Eric! I’ve never felt so known by a film before. As someone who has PTSD and has struggled with anxiety attacks and panic attacks more frequently since the world changed in 2020 this film is very cathartic for me. I was sobbing in the theater when Riley’s new sense of self echoed “I’m not good enough” through her mind. Hearing you talking about what Joy says after in that scene even has me tearing up watching this breakdown. The portrayal of Riley’s anxiety attack was so real and I loved when all the emotions hugged together over the core belief structure. She was able to feel all her emotions at once and lean into her senses to ground herself with the sound of the skates and temperature of the ring etc. She allowed herself to feel her emotions and then grounded herself to let them pass. This is something that has taken me years to learn as an adult so I am overjoyed that they depicted this in the film so well for younger audiences to learn how to feel and cope. LOVE THIS FILM!!! This breakdown felt so personal! Thanks Eric for sharing your story, I think that's what makes you and the channel stand out. Let me share mine. I had only heard of this channel, mostly negative - hyper theories or clickbaits. So never really checked it out but one day stumbled upon a video and I liked it. I am not a fan of theories and rumour videos but I love watching Breakdowns by Eric because he adds so much of himself in it. It's more than the easter eggs and references. I love his analysis of the story, what it's trying to say, how filmmaking was used to drive the point, the philosophy behind it. I love all that which is unique to the channel and him. Keep doing it ❤

My thought process for the bad/embarrassing memories being part of Riley's personality/sense of self in the end was that we need to have bad experiences and make mistakes to become the person we are and to truly grow.

I still soo connect with this movie damn it makes me cry every single time. I just love that both of the films relate to our lives and what we went through, now that's the Pixar magic, those magical moments I am a pediatric psychologist, and I, along with my colleagues, adore Inside Out and often utilize it in therapy with clients to help explain emotions. Inside Out 2 was just as impactful. I particularly loved the moments as Riley was calming/recovering from the anxiety attack. One coping skill we teach is using your 5 senses to ground yourself in your physical reality when you are having an anxiety attack. When Riley is calming, the animators focus on the feel of her hand on the bench, the sound of the hockey puck on the ice, and her eyes as she looks up for the first time. What a lovely and accurate representation of grounding oneself! 31 minutes ago I just want to hug Erik now, so precious I haven’t even watched the movie yet but here I am That was quick Mr. Eric... This franchise has supported people through their darkest phases. Love them with all my heart. I was hoping you guys would break this down!!! Hearing you talking about what Joy says after that scene even has me tearing up watching this breakdown. Thank your wife from me and mine! Amazing breakdown I watched it with my sister yesterday and we were legit suppressing our laughter inside the cinema when the belief system was introduced because I said "Hey this is also a representation of where our calculus is built" LMAO. And I started thinking about things when sometimes I feel like a douchebag and thank goodness it didn't solidify as part of my belief system....or did it, LOL 3 hours ago How perfect I just watched this movie The_Multiverse_Studios 2 hours ago (edited) We got the Inside Out 2 Easter Eggs and Details video after the Inside Out 2 preview teaser YT 12:13 not him doing a high voice Inside Out 2 was such a good movie with a Great story and self-reflection at the end Super cool to see Erik getting the attention he deserves. If they make an Inside Out 3, I'd love to see them explore really complex and hard to describe emotions, like Grief; imo, Grief is much deeper than regular Sadness because while sometimes we need to be sad and have a good cry and everything is good now, Grief can linger for days, weeks, months or even years at a time. How do you go through your life battling Grief? How do you even fight it? Will it lead to other emotions, like Depression and Worthlessness taking over? If not careful, the story could get very dark but I would love to see how the Core Emotions deal with the really complicated emotions.

I watched this today, and oh my god , my own heart was pounding in the panic attack scene, I was wondering how many emotions I have buried under , how many self beliefs I have made over the years , I am 33 😅, I thought of writing down all my emotions , but I guess my laziness tops it, but I will write down for myself, this movie is one of the best cinema I have watched ❤, and thank god I watched it in a theater where several different peoples were laughing and crying at the same time , This way cinema and art is made for, to make us feel something, to Look inside our emotions and to keep a check on them, anxiety, embracement have place a huge role and sometime they have destroyed lots of good memories but they also help us to make good decisions in life ❤

A few things about these movies I have to share. My youngest was in therapy and after the movie we discussed what his islands were. Just like all emotions are the same core group his islands were not typical like he had like a whole island devoted to certain bad behavior etc. We talked about what it would take to knock down or replace those and helped us set goals which he most definitely did. The parents in my theater openly cried out and began to loudly weep when goofy island fell like it was a horror drama (which any parent can tell you that one HURT). All the kids were comforting us but were kind of shocked by the islands falling too. Also my best friend had every island he had bulldozed over the course of one year. It can happe. To adults too when too many losses shake you to your core and years later we are still dealing with rebuilding. It's important to be kind to others because we don't know how shaken they are inside just walking around with a big grey chunk of a console. Which made the anxiety attack scene just ______ idk. Wow. So hard to watch but so helpful in empathizing in a clear way. I hope these films become required watching for therapist for ppl of all ages. An aside my friend watched pt 1 with his group and discussed for a series of sessions and it helped them all alot.
