Inside Out 2 Is Amazing! (But I'll Probably Never Watch It Again)

Well, well, well, looks like Inside Out 2 is performing better than anybody was expecting. And I for one welcome our emotional overlords. In all seriousness, this movie was an instant classic in my eyes, even though I have very little desire to ever watch it again (you’ll soon learn why). I feel like it harkens back to Pixar’s glory days and I’m so happy they’ve hit it out of the park. But enough rambling on, time for the review! Enjoy.

Honestly, the fact that they managed to introduce: 4 new emotions, Reily's 2 friends, the 3 cool highschool girls, the coach, 3 bingbong-esk characters, and pouchy, and the movie STILL didn't feel like anything was left out was crazy to me. I mean, Envy and Ennui were a liiiitttle underused...but that's kind of the point I think. Reily isn't that envious. People around that age don't get that bored either. Also...$295 million opening weekend. Only beat by incredibles 2. Absolutely insane.

Turning Red is an amazing movie and the critics agreed. The only real problem with Luca, Soul and Turning Red is that Disney, in their infinite wisdom, that those 3 films would be pulled out of cinemas apparently due to Covid, even though Encanto was released a year earlier at the height of the pandemic. Go figure! Soul was actually fantastic, and Turning Red was one of the best Pixar movies in years.

To older audience the show might seem rushed but in my opinion I think the movie was meant for parents and teens and children the most. The movie is such good representation to puberty and how it feels growing up and finding yourself, it represents how you don’t need to have a single emotion to describe yourself, not everyone is perfect, and it’s ok to not know what happens next in the future. For teens it’s an important message because not everyone has everything figured out when they’re in their most important phase in life. For parents it’s a message that shows how teens and pre teens feel during that change, kind of like an introspective into their minds and the movie does it REALLY well compared to other movies for children it’s entertaining, and a fun movie with young and adult humor for all ages. Sure it focuses on teens the most but it’s also a movie everyone can relate to in some point in their life. The anxiety attacks also are really represented in a good way and can be relatable for tons of people with that problem. This is what I want from a movie, a movie entertaining and enchanting for kids and deep and meaningful for older audiences. I almost teared up in that movie and I’ve got to say it’s even better than the original. I hope Pixar thrives from this success and makes even better movies

I loved Inside Out 2 but I had a small gripe with it and it regards the climax. Spoiler: The entirety of the first movie was built around the idea that it was okay to have negative experiences and that shutting them away only causes problems. But Joy in this movie litteraly throws away any negative aspects of Riley's livelihood to never deal with them again and she once again realises that these negative experiences are also a part of Riley's character and her sense of self. I just found it slightly annoying that she learnt her lesson but at the same time didnt.
@Dolan-by9ex
@Dolan-by9ex 10 дней назад
I kinda disagree bc in the beginning of the movie Joy is very welcoming towards Anxiety and the new emotions, but joy thinks anxiety is destroying Riley bc of the fact that Riley is being very rude towards everyone. Ex: Riley ditching her friends, talking back to her parents, wanting to be with Val rather than her actual friends, etc. The rest of the group agrees as well with the whole puberty thing. Puberty is very complicated and comes out of nowhere, so it’s hard for Joy and the gang to see that it takes time to figure out newer things like this. (Sorry I yapped lol.) But I just wanted to say I don’t think joy doesnt learn her lesson bc everyone goes through puberty and you have to learn from that experience and grow better as time moves on.

So, this movie about emotions actually made me emotional. I teared up more times than I'd like to admit. Like you said, this was extremely relatable, but for me, it was other reasons beyond recalling childhood. One of the hardest parts for me was actually when the movie was over. I had taken my 6 year old nephew to see it and he was confused about a lot of things, mostly anxiety. As someone that has trouble with anxiety, it was hard for me to try to explain what anxiety is. He thought she was the bad guy, but I had to explain that she was not a villain, she was trying her best to be helpful, but her helpfulness was not helping. It was hurtful, but she genuinely didn't mean to be. She loves Riley, they all do. But, when anxiety got out of control, it was hard to calm her down. For a while, she was untouchable. Joy could not force her to stop, she had to reach her with words to calm her down enough to be able to touch her and pull her away. He didn't quite understand, but I told him a story about us when he was anxious and how I had to talk to him calmly to set him away ease. My emotion of calm had to touch his emotion of anxiousness. Emotions can touch other emotions, but they have to be able to reach them first. He understood a little better after that, but it was still...and is still a challenge trying to get him to understand. I'm glad we saw the movie together, though.

As someone with an anxiety disorder, i found this sequel to be fantastic and deeply relateable. How anxiety tries to control and gameplan for every single little future scenario that it completely consumes Rileys life was very accurate. The panic attack was very faithful and a great representation of what it feels like on the inside - a desperate collapse of reality around you where you don't know how to calm down. The scene in the imagination room with anxiety/Joy was a great way to illustrate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a real life therapy technique. It's brilliant how excellently everything was portrayed. Hands down my favorite pixar movie to date.

In my thinking, there is only one movie that lands in the everyone needs to see it, but the impact is too much to see it more than once. I don’t consider Inside Out 2 to be there. The real question with Inside Out 2, though, is whether schools will play it right after Inside Out 1. Inside Out 1 is very often played in middle school/junior high health classes as part of the unit on mental and emotional health. If schools pick up Inside Out 2 to play right after… That’s part of the beauty of animation, when done right-it can make abstract concepts concrete. And done in a believable way that‘s not cheesy.

Initially, I wasn't excited for this movie. It felt like just another rehashing of what was a phenomenal film that was able to take how we see complex identities and senses of self, and rehashed it into this cash grab for Puberties sake. However, seeing your take on this and how you've come around to the film. I'm actually quite excited to go and see this movie. It sounds like while it may still have been a cash grab, it wasn't just a rehash of content, they truly tried to show the growth in each stage of life. I do wonder if they'll do a film about becoming an adult and wat a mid life crisis feels like. Or maybe child bearing in the future.

It seems that Pixar got the relatability factor down for the majority of people, which is great for them and hits close to home for ya’ll. On another note my teen experience was a little different, I rarely dealt with anxiety or envy or embarrassment, I did go through an emo phase which was cringe but even there I rarely dealt with those emotions. I’m not saying they should have made the movie about my childhood, I am just finding it interesting how the majority of teens experience was portrayed so well in this movie and what I’ve been doing that lead to a different result during my teens. But then again there are some factors which lead to me rarely dealing with these emotions. Firstly I’m a Christian, I love Jesus, and God’s in control so whom shall I fear, I live by that and when I find myself anxious about little things I just give it to God, and it’s no longer my problem. No need to be envious because I know I’m enough, God said so. People won’t remember you’re embarrassing moments, so why be self conscious during the moment when that person most likely won’t pickup on the feeling your feeling, so might as well laugh with them and tell people that-could-be, embarrassing moment to get a laugh with your friends, it honestly makes for good storytelling. Secondly I’m homeschooled so a lot of the things ya’ll face in the public school system probably brought on these emotions, because let’s be honest, people are cruel especially in the middle school and highschool. Experiences make us who we are, but even in that environment, living for Christ has changed my life, the emo phase wasn’t great because I was hanging out with a friend group who didn’t have my best interest at heart and I even had to take a break from my closest friend in that group, because I started to lose my sparkle and I was spiraling down. Praise Yahweh I’ve been saved and redeemed. My experience may be a little different but I promise God is real and alive and He continues to give me Peace, He can do that for you too, I know life’s rough, school’s hard, people are cruel, but remember, you are loved and you are worth it! Jesus is the way to true Joy, True Peace, True fulfillment and there’s an open invitation into the Kingdom just for you! You just have to believe, and works don’t get you to heaven but walking out the word in thankfulness for what Christ has done is the way to go. I’m praying for ya’ll and there’s Hope and Jesus loves ya’ll! I hope ya’ll have a wonderful day and have fun at the movies! For those who read to the end, thank you for reading, I hope you found Hope one way or another. I know no one asked to know my experience, but hey too many people in the world are dealing with loneliness, emptiness, and lack Hope, if I can shine some light on where you can find Hope, I’d rather tell the truth on where to find it. Take it or leave it and Have a ✨💖✨Sparkly Day!✨💖✨

The anxiety scene made me cry my eyes out like a gasket as my heart raced. I struggle with suppressing emotions which became a thing in my early teens. But seeing this movie in my late teens made me question whether the premise would apply to me or not because of the huge gap of time between the first and second films and me not being thirteen anymore. But it was very good at conveying the panic attack scene, especially for me who struggles with anxiety and panic attacks. Normally movies don't make me cry, but next to Soul and UP, this one had me fighting back tears because of how much I related to Riley and her experiences. Especially concerning suppressing your emotions and the literal avalanche that comes along with that which I experienced earlier this year. My mom held my hand during the last few scenes which honestly just made it all the more impactful because this is a film not only for kids or teens but also for adults and it's truly amazing how people of all ages can come together and relate to and learn the different emotions and how it affects a person especially during their teenage years. Nice job Pixar, the bar was kinda low but you raised it.

I loved tis ons so much it wos It's funnier and I kinda have a feeling that the first one was kinda cringy, It had really emotional scenes.But this one had more of the cast and more deep dive in the world building that we already knew and loved.😅❤🎉I also love the Blue's Clues and the Door the Explorer reference.Also, Joey's character was really well-built.She is not perfect, but I really relate to her and anxiety. And also Riley.😊

Personally, I liked the movie, it was really strong, but it had a weak conclusion, yeah she said sorry but there were no consequences for her actions, she makes the team dispute messing up her own teammates She keeps her friends even though she was a complete jerk to them And she gets to fit in with the popular people even though she was being fake, and ignoring her friends to impress them This is probably a hot take but the outcome of this movie is pretty contrived. Personally I just didn’t want riley to stick with the red streak haired girls, felt like she had her cake and ate it too.

In a way the original is more cinematic and nostalgic to me but inside out 2 hits way too close as I’m a teenager and I had a mental breakdown a couple of months ago so when watching that movie I cried unlike any movie I ever watched.

The movie's good I just dont know how to feel about the retcons they did... Like on one hand its not that bad, but on the other it does rub me the wrong way everytime something is different... Like Anxiety's whole existence still rubs me the wrong way when Fear filled the role she said she was meant to fill in the first movie... It feels like the base emotions' potential roles were narrowed down just to fit more emotions...
@OliverOils
@OliverOils 10 дней назад
yeah I also thought that too even Fear said "I feel like we're gonna be friends" at the literal start 😂 the only difference between them is that Anxiety actually took over while Fear just uses Riley occasionally

I think fear is not as consuming as anxiety Plus in the movie itself, anxiety said that fear protects Riley from things she sees, whereas anxiety protects Riley from things she can't see So if you were being chased by a dog, that would be fear but if you are stressed for an exam then it's anxiety They both have their own role

To be fair, I think when it comes to Anxiety and fear, it makes sense that they’re separated. I feel like while they do have similarities, they’re different enough in context to be different characters. After all, there’s a reason those two are different words with different meanings in the dictionary. They’re related, but far from the same.

@@slaybutton1692 I think fear was an okay choice to be a base emotion in the first movie bc anxiety and fear aren’t the same thing first of all. And at a very young age like 6-12, kids don’t really have anxiety as a “base emotion” until they are in their teens. Kids 6-12 can get scared pretty easily by some random things. Usually in teenage years anxiety can definitely start showing up a lot more during puberty.

I haven’t watched this yet but the way anxiety is described is giving insecurity, not anxiousness. Anxiousness is unease, uncertainty of an outcome. Insecurity is a lack of confidence in oneself, uncertain about decisions that impact yourself.

I'm really glad they didn't make Riley bisexual. I don't care if you're right or left. I don't want to hear about politics in a movie like this even if I agree with the political message or not. Just make good, relatable movies, which is what Pixar did here.

@ruralconservative6625 3 дня назад
@@selkrasouza6262 I should also say this, if a company wants to produce political content that is their decision. For example there are Christian music and movie studios, and they appeal exclusively to a Christian/conservative audience. So does Disney want to be a studio that exclusively targets a LGBTQIA+/ liberal audience?
@selkrasouza6262
@selkrasouza6262 День назад
@@ruralconservative6625 What doesn’t make sense to me is insisting that the existence of lgbt people is “left wing” when right wing lgbt people exist. And I just think it’s very disappointing that I can’t see representations of people like myself in most mainstream media because these companies consider it “political”. And based on conversations I’ve had with conservatives in my family and community, the reason it’s considered “political” in the first place is due to bigotry. You propose the idea of Disney “exclusively targeting the lgbt/liberals” when it’s possible for them to cater to the widest possible audience (which they already try to do!). A company can write stories about gay/trans people as well as straight/cisgender people. And they do when they permit their writers to do so, since Lightyear has a lesbian couple. If I (an lgbt person) can enjoy a story where Riley is straight, than a straight person can enjoy a story where Riley is bisexual.

There are movies out there, a million times better than this one, that people have no problem watching again. Inside Out is nothing special, it's just a weird movie about gremlins living in people's heads, controlling what are suppose to be human beings but now believing that they can't think or act themselves without their emotions taking control. But back on topic, we got E.T., The Godfather, King Kong, The Shawshank Redemption, Godzilla, Jaws, Alien, The Breakfast Club, The Lion King, Spirited Away, Saving Private Ryan, Thelma and Louise, and many many many other films that are so iconic, beloved by many, and have earned their reputation as being the best of the best, and we still watch these movies again and again. Inside Out is not special, it's very flawed, has a concept that's really only suited for a silly short, even the emotions break character by having various of emotions aside from what they represent, which then begs the question if they are being controlled by gremlins in their head, going deeper down a rabbit hole that's really not worth analyzing. It's just not that great of a movie. I could name 50 other animated movies that are better than this and people are more likely gonna revisit regardless of how good a movie is.

You done good Pete Docter, you done good, you too Pixar. Looks like the magic isn't gone after all, or in this case, when they made Cars 2, and Lightyear, they flopped so hard, although the movie isn't the problem, it's the bad writing, and this what happens when Hollywood pander to their audience and makes things worse, still don't know why The Good Dinosaur and Onward were also failures, or if Monster's University was an unnecessary sequel, or probably should’ve happened first, and sometimes I find it ironic for Brave to also be a disappointment or not much of a Pixar movie since it won an Oscar, this is also why you should give an honest opinion and not trust Box Offices or online reviews since they're filled with lies. Who else think Inside Out 2 should've happened a long time ago if Hollywood didn't make those failures.💛😃💙😢💜😱💚🤢❤️😡🧡😰🩵🥹🩷😳💜🥱
