For me the film's thesis happens right at the start... Joy says "This is Sadness. We don't really know why she is here." That's helped me relate to so many of my friends, and the friends I have not yet made. During the pandemic lockdowns I found myself parroting to a dear friend "They took something away from you that you loved. It's sad. And if you want to cry, then let's do so together. And when we're done we will be ready for what's to come." A brilliant movie. -Frank
As a beginner in animation and graphic art I adore this! Its awesome how the whole movie (actually both of them) came out. They are not only wonderfully animated, but also have special, true messages and speaks to every one of us. Awesome job.
joy and anger are really just based on basic shape theory (round is friendly, square is unfriendly, triangle is eccentric, etc). My favorite designs are fear and disgust and I think they really balance the design complexity. I’m surprised disgust took them that long to figure out though, proportions aside… I wish they had talked about things like why is joy’s dress and the atomic art inspiration in the movie I think that’s very Interesting
I like Joy's aura, I think it's blue most of the time (if that's not the case, make me an example). Is she bioluminescent? She always emits light, even in very illuminated places; but is where everything is dark that I love her (light means hope and if there's hope there can also be Joy) 😊
