Good bit, but man… as someone from California, that impression of Newsom was void of any noticeable trait other than being male and having hair brushed back. He has a distinct voice and would be thing that would make the performance. It’s voice and (theatrical?) passion. To be fair. Maybe someone called out sick, but I would have appreciated an attempt at an impression.

The actor playing Gavin Newsome didn't seem to make even the slightest attempt to do any kind of impression of Newsom's distinct halting speaking style or sound of his gravelly voice. It's like he's never even seen any video of Newsom speaking. I'd call that either lazy, or incompetant acting. Who's picking what actor plays what role. Is it only based on looks. Plenty of current and past SNL cast members would have nailed Newsom, including female cast members, so why this guy when he can't be bothered to even try, or just can't do it? Bad choice SNL.

I found that awful Cold Open about as funny as COVID, to say nothing big offensive. It's incredible how far the show has fallen since its premier in the 70's.
