In the colonial era in Western Nigeria, Sanusi Adebisi's success as a cocoa farmer was known far and wide. His Mansion which sits magnificently at Idi Ikan today was the talk of the town when it was completed in the early 1900s and even comes up in conversations today. Adebisi used his wealth to support the society, to the extent of paying taxes for all taxable adults in Ibadan during the colonial era.
In this video, Ayo Adams takes us on a tour of the old mansion at Idi Ikan, Ibadan.

I love how wealthy Ibadan men build houses in a way that shows they want to accommodate people

The amount of treasures in this building alone...chai! ....that book alone would be worth thousands of dollars in an auction if it were in the U.S

This house would have been the cynosure of all eyes during his time. Today, it means nothing to people. That is life!!!

If the man could see into the future to behold the present condition of his palatial mansion, I guess he would have been contented with a bungalow. I hope he was able to transfer his wealth to generations after him and I hope the society can learn a thing or two from stories like this.

Those books should be handled with care. Building solid, furniture solid.these should be restored.

It saddens my heart the way we neglect historical buildings and other treasures. What I see in this building is not a proper way of preserving treasures, rather it is the way of depletion and gradual destruction. On assumption that the family of Adebisi are incapable of maintaining the building, what stops Oyo state government and or Ibadan Council taking over this property for preservation, and disallowed it and constituents from gathering dust? Fellow Ibadan sons and daughters, what can we do to reverse this wonton destruction of our treasures and attract tourism to Ibadan city.

Paid tax for the whole city? An uncommon legend, how pleasant it will be if the family can make better use of that mansion

I'm disappointed no government of Oyo State has thought it fit to acquire these properties and refurbish them, with the hope of preserving the heritage and history of these successful sons of Ibadan. These would make fantastic museums and generate good tourism revenue for the state.

I thought of that immediately I started watching this video, the people in government nowadays only think of their family and what they could steal before they leave the office, they do not care about future or development.

One of his children should just restore this building, turn it to an office so it just doesn't rot over time. Building in & out is still solid.

An ibadan proverb says "Boasting that you can build your house like replica of Adebisi will tantamount to you not building anything in the end of the day." The people that time saw the house ad the most standard and except you were extremely rich, you shouldn't aspire that kind of dream. So they tell you to start small and work your way to the top. The English equivalent of that is "Cut your coat according to your cloth"

If we begin to look inward, we would found lots of things that are worth showing to the rest of the world. Long Live Ayọ̀

Wao! This house is what Yorubas use as proverbs that MA KO ILE MI BI ILE ADEBISI ESU A I NI KO NKANKAN NIYE. This is a big lesson for us on Earth, see the house of the richest millionaire some years past, it's now look like garbage site only the architectural design that is left. This World is totally vanity upon vanity, however I have learned a lesson from this video, I need to construct a small place in my compound as my burial ground.
