The factory making Elon Musk’s futuristic next-generation spacecraft is a gleaming marvel of ultra-modern industrial sophistication, right? Nope. In reality it’s a flimsy, temporary tent city, with an onsite trailer park - and no running water.
How on earth does that work? Join us now as we take a peek inside SpaceX’s Boca Chica rocket factory.

Hopefully we will look back at this and say that yes, you can consider these as mixed results because it has never failed since. . . . . But that's not the SpaceX way, they WANT failures to happen so that they can fix it and get better ship in the end

"tested with mixed results"" .. the results are not mixed at all, they are a linear evolution to better and more efficient Starship construction. Learning what it does by trial and error, whether it explodes or lands on the pad, they gather volumes of data each time and the next prototype is a bit better than the previous one.

Most that don’t care for Elon contribute nothing to the betterment of mankind. Seeing what he has done is amazing and is working. NASA would need 20years and $$ trillions to do what he has done in just a few years and with far less money. Would nasa build a tent for prototypes or construct a multi million dollar facility? It’s why private enterprise always does more with less. Easy to overspend when it’s other people’s money. Let the haters hate... they are just looking for something to complain about and if it weren’t him, it would be some other job creator or visionary to complain about. And if they do have a hurricane hit, they can rebuild those tents w/o the government red tape in no time. Plus their rockets are tough as steel and recyclable so Hurricanes are no problem. Thing of all the damage at Nasa and the time to fix things from a Hurricane. Space Shuttle blows up takes 3 years to fly again from a frozen O ring on a cold launch day to a piece of ice damaging a the tiles on the wing - oops. I'd sat Texas is Hot! and a few quick turn arounds beats big government any day. Think if Nasa blew up 4 starships, they would all before in a Congressional Hearings complaining about lost tax dollars- not in Texas with a Private Company... just the FAA to slow them down a bit. ;-)

Now imagine everyone is trying their best trudging along, while there is SpaceX all the while sprinting like Usain Bolt far ahead, even on obstacles going that 20+ mph, that’s how their results are faring. It’s still a tough road ahead for many years to come, things blowing up or crumbling being a given. Point is for all players to rapidly adapt to overcome these obstacles.

I have an idea, when they build the rocket they should have a big elevator so it moves down when they build / assemble it, and when it is finished they run the elevator all the way up and it is ready to drive it out. Then they also do not need such a large tower to build in and the staff does not have to be hoisted up in a crane.

From the git-go that evolution from first reusable test launch (2013) to stable launches and reusability (mostly) (2017) was 4 years. Starship is only in its second year and the raptor engine is in evolutionary co-development on the same platform. Musk is following the classic entrepreneurial way of dreaming big then execute by making and correcting your errors in understanding as fast as you can.

Tf was that "mixed results" comment on the starship development? All the starship flights have FAR exceeded expectations, and they're all literally prototypes. The R&D involved in building a mars ship to take humans that far is insane, and SpaceX has been crushing every milestone so far. Its really only been about 2 years and they have prototype starships that can take off and land now too. The first real expected attempt at landing (SN15) was done on the first try! I'd hardly call that mixed results.

I'm really confused by this video. The script is okay, but the video that goes along with script often has very little to do with the script.

0:29 Using an animation of Starship while talking about Falcon 9 is confusing to someone not in the know. Otherwise, good video.

Elon is a genius, technically and politically savvy. Really admire the man. If it's possible, Elon will make it happen. Thank you for a great video, enjoyed it

I'm sorry, did you just state that the Starship project has had mixed results? I'm pretty sure that the entire thing has been going according to plan and even exceeding expectations. I'm going to guess it was a poor choice of words, but it's worrying to think that you clearly lack even a basic proofread on your script before recording.

No running water? Wouldn’t the fire suppression system you saw after SN15 landed say otherwise?

I wish I was born 25 years later. I'm in my mid-fifties and will never have the chance to even be considered to go - even though a native Texan :). Just glad I have lived long enough to see the day arrive that humans going to Mars is beginning to be realized.

Don't be surprised if Elon buys 1.5-2.5k acres in south TX once Starship's design and reliability are proven so he can build proper permanent buildings for the continued production of the ships. I think ''Starbase'' is a prototype just like everything else he's doing. Crap, I wish I was younger so I could witness all this!
