Where do I start? The grounds and gardens, the beautiful stone work, the fact that it has been in same family for 900 plus years, the tapestries on the walls, paintings, the ceilings made from wood from ships, the prison history (albeit, gruesome), the Norman arches and fireplaces, the new upcoming plans, on and on. This was a superlative video, Julie, does You Tube give out Emmy’s? If so, I nominate you, right now with this one. And chock full of content, this is like a mini-series. You ask all the questions we might all want to ask!! ❤
@@AmericanViscountess One more note, you will also enjoy, my husband is a huge, huge fan everything Julie! He can’t wait to see your videos, we watch them together…😀
This is a spectacular episode Julie .Just so beautiful and to sit here in my home and see the places you take us Julie is beyond amazing .Your work is truly so appreciated. Thanks so much and sending love from America❤
My husband’s family castle on the Isle of Skye, Scotland, Dunvegan, castle, was built in the 13th century. The McLeod family has been there ever since.
This is SO exciting! Elizabeth de Berkeley, Countess of Warwick & Baroness Lisle (1386 - 28 Dec 1422) is my 22nd maternal great grandmother. Lovely to learn more about my family history. I recognized the family crest from my family tree. We were right in the middle of the big inheritance battle! I'm also a Montagu thru Sir Edward, the judge. He's one of my favorite great grandfather's because of his fascinating career. My line descends from Sidney's brother Charles. I'm in California and I love being able to visit these beautiful historic houses connected to my family by watching your channel 💖
An incredible amount of history in one place…simply amazing!! With all the history that has taken place, there must be a number of restless spirits still walking the halls!😊
The reason that Elizabeth I signed her name with the flourishes below was so that no one could write anything else below her signature... something that she didn't want written. Basically, she was protecting herself from anyone who would undermine her.
I love watching your videos on all these historic old homes and castles. Hearing the history is so interesting. You have such an enthusiasm for all these houses, I do believe if I was in your shoes I would have the same reaction. My mom's side of the family comes from England so this is all very fascinating to me. Thanks for your work.
This was lovely to see. I absolutely loved hearing of its history. Those tapestries were gorgeous. The castle is spectacular indeed and thank you for adding Berkeley to your list of wonderful visits. May the generations continue to inhabit this fantastic construction.
Julie, please put a photo of Mapperton’s front door and walkway with the Eagle’s present when we see these wonderful stories of historic homes. They were only missed a short period of time compared to how long they were presented there. They are an important presentation of your home. Love this video today. Much love to you and all two legged and four legged at Mapperton❤
Greetings from Costa Rica! I’ve been watching here and Italy for at least a couple of years. This is one of my favorites! Great job, deep drive! Love, love, loved this!
It's amazing that the buildings of the castle including something as simple as putting steps of different heights and angles in as a defense. There was a study in New York that a step only has to be 5mm different from the height of the previous step to make almost anybody trip. After this video, I've also added Berkeley Castle to my list of places to visit when I make my way back to the UK.
Viscountess an other amazing episode, what a Castle and the fact the the family have resided for over 900 years, thank so much we now have a greater awareness of the history of England aristocrats, until the next instalment thank you and God Bless 🏰😇🙏
I watched a video of ur pool being green...Why don't u invest in a salt water pool then everyone can enjoy it..Salt was replaced with chlorine and we have it and me and my family love it ur skin feels so much better..😊
I thought U-Tube frowned upon releasing the exact same video more than once on your channel. But I get it, summer reruns- its an American thing (that usually drives us to turn to social media.) Still it was a great show and I got to see the best bits in about 30 minutes.
I don’t know if it’s appropriate but I would love to know how much it costs to run these manors/castles. I’m from the US so I’m thinking the water (provided it’s connected to city water) electricity and basic utility costs to even live in one. The thought of any of these beautiful homes being lost due to the high costs makes me so sad. They need to be preserved.
Edward II had a male favourite called piers gaveston who’s arrogance as a favourite of Edward caused uproar among the established nobles that served under his father longshanks. He was undoubtedly in a homosexual relationship with gaveston, quite openly by accounts & Gaveston was brazen about it, this coupled with his weak military expertise and poor results at bannockburn mainly where many prominent English nobleman where killed spelled only one thing. He was blamed for the death of promising young knights like Henry de bohun for example, it was to much embarrassment to a once great kingdom he had to go. Some nobles banded together and kidnapped Gaveston killing him. They forced Edward to exile him but he kept bringing him back just adding more fuel to the fire every time. His wife went to France and joined with an exiled baron Mortimer and raised a small army. The growing discontent already among the barons at home coupled with the invading isebella and Mortimer proved the perfect opportunity to get rid of him and he was killed. His son Edward the iii was the opposite of his father and proved a great military leader, restoring England as a powerhouse and starting the 100 years war with France, so you could say it was the correct choice.
We are now putting out the feature length films of some of our past episodes as we can't possibly create a high quality production as we do for our Historic Houses, every single week. Hope you understand and still enjoy the show!
@@AmericanViscountessThank you Julie for the repeated videos. I havnt seen this video. Look what I was missing, a beautiful 900 yr old castle! Sometimes my schedule is quite busy. Thank you for taking the time to produce great quality videos❤
Completely off topic, BUT I just learned that one of the Earls of Sandiwch was a member of the Hellfire Club! Please, oh please, can we get a Halloween special on the topic?! @grimmlifecollective
