The Bundespräsident actually can be voted for only two consecutive legislatives.. However he can be voted for a third or fourth run, as long as after his second run there is any other being voted for.

Aloha. I am an American looking to emigrate out as American burns itself to the ground. I'm trying to decide where to go. Simon Vaut has been slightly campaigning to pick up people like myself, but I need to know something about where I'm going before I actually do it. This video seems to be more about the political structure than the environment. As I'm looking to leave for political reasons, I'm interested in knowing what the political climate is on various issues, such as health care, LGBT, religious connections, economic policies, etc. Obviously, I know no country is going to match me 100%, but I just as obviously can't go in blind. The first related video I see is from Stefan Molyneux titled "Is Germany Headed for Civil War? European Migrant Crisis," which doesn't fill me with optimism.

Hi! I know, I´m late, but I just answer your questions anyway :D So, the political climate is more moderate than in the US I would say, but not peaceful. Regarding health care, there is a two-class system. There is the normal insurance, and the private one. Those who are privately insured are usually a bit privileged, the doctors take more time for them and so on, but the normal insurances are not bad at all, either. Regarding same sex marriage, from a legal standpoint, it currently is still illegal. But: There´s a thing called "Eingetragene Lebenspartnerschaft" which is kind of the same as marriage, just not quite. You´re not allowed to adopt children for example. But there´s a strong movement currently to legalize same sex marriage. The parliamentary majority is there. But the conservative CDU (and CSU) are against it (with Merkel especially). But all other parties are in favor of same sex marriage. It´s currently a conflict within my party (SPD, which is in favor of that, but is also in the government with the CDU/CSU, so they don´t know what to do). We could see a legalization as soon as tomorrow, then we would vote against our own government, or we have to wait until the new Government after the election in September. I think if we would talk again in one year, it will be legal. Germany is a more secular state, we don´t have as much fundamentalist christians here for example, as in the US. In fact, in east germany (which was communist until 30 years ago) over 60% are atheists. Germany is an economically friendly country, but that depends on the government. (Conservative CDU/CSU together with liberal FDP would be more friendly towards big companies than a government between Social Democratic SPD and the Green Party, or even the democratic socialism "Left" party.) There are more social programs, that companies have to pay for. For instance, the employer has to pay 50% of the healthcare insurance for the employees, and they have to pay money into the pensions office. If you are unemployed, you get I think up to 60% of your normal salary for 2 years. After that you get "Hartz IV", a basic income (without children or anything maybe about 350-400€) and the state will pay for your home and electricity, and you don't have to pay money for the public media. I briefly want to talk about that too. There are privately owned and publicly owned media organizations in Germany (and in most other European nations). Privately owned here is for instance RTL. I think you are used to this as an American. They get money through Commercials, product placement, etc. But then we have the public media. They are in Germany ARD and ZDF. (in Britain they have the BBC). The ARD runs multiple regional and nationwide TV and radio programs, while the ZDF only does TV. In cooperation with French public media for example, they have a special station, called Arte. Those publicly financed media are not dependent on money through Ads or from big companies that own them, they are independent. And they usually have a better quality standard. Those videos you mentioned are likely in connection to the refugee crisis we had. It surely is from right wing people. I can't confirm what they are saying. Sure, there are problems. But there is no civil war ahead. That's straight up false. People from the US often are saying that the muslim population is exploding or so, which is not the case. Muslims make up about 5% of our population.

I also want to say, that Germany has a different culture. Americans are mostly proud of their freedom. I can tell you, in Germany you won't have as much freedom as in the US. For example, you probably know that its illegal to own weapons and walk on the streets with them. Only police is allowed to do that. To legally have a gun in your home, you must have a special permission. In Germany, the most important "thing" (I don't have a better word for it now) is not "Freedom" but "Dignity". Article 1 of the german basic law (our constitution) says "Human dignity shall be inviolable. To respect and protect it shall be the duty of all state authority.". That sentence stands above everything else, even above freedom of speech. That means that insulting someone can have legal consequences for you, you can be sued. And by the way: That is also the reason, why we took in the refugees. Maybe, you think that´s crazy, but we see it as a moral obligation.

Well as a fact - homeschooling is allowed and you are wellcome to do so. The only thing is, that it's not a substitute for public schooling. Kids have definately to go to school.

@tvchild76

@tvchild76
@tvchild76 8 лет назад
Alles weitere dann vllt einfach nochmal nachlesen.

Yes, they lead the parliament discussion, but they are nowhere as 'prominent' (meaning... loud :D) as John Bercow is in the Brittish House of Commons. As a foreigner, I do like him a lot though ('ooooooordeeeer' :D).

People are allowed to vote for you in the US? I honestly didn't know that. How exactly does that work in states that require an ID? I take it that Hürde is related to English hurdle. The Schulpflicht sounds horrible! I'm glad I was be able to be homeschooled. I don't think I could have survived another year in public school.
