We could not be more excited to announce our new show called "Inside The Gilliverse". What is a Gilliverse you may ask? A Gilliverse is the all encompassing universe where the shows "Breaking Bad", "El Camino" and "Better Call Saul" call home. All inspired by the creations of Vince Gilligan. (with spin off show co-created with Peter Gould)
Hosted by writer/producer/director Thomas Schnauz (currently on hiatus for writing BCS S6) & Eric Broadbent, we talk about all things related to these fantastic shows.
Each week we feature great guests from cast to crew with our goal to give you some fun & insightful content to help make the wait for the series finale of Better Call Saul a bit easier.
In this episode we welcome the very first recasted actor in the entire Gilliverse, actor Pat Healy who now plays "Jeff The Cab Driver" and in our honest opinion, we love him. It's sad to see the original "Jeff" (actor Don Harvey) go, but due to contract restrictions, recasting had to take place.
Pat has taken this character to new heights with big shoes to fill and has nailed it. I think we are in for a few surprises from Jeff yet as well.
Join Pat & Eric as they talk "Jeff" and his role alongside Gene Takovic/Saul Goodman and what he thinks may be in store. Plus this is your only chance in the Universe (well Gilliverse for that matter) to ask Pat questions in real time! Don't miss this event!
Pat's credits are insanely awesome, be sure to follow him closely!

I actually find the recast with the slight change in potraying Jeff very valid from an artistic perspective. I liked Don's performance when introducing the character at the mall a lot for it's almost 'lynchesque' grotesqueness. The Jeff we got to know there is literally the embodiement of Gene's terror in that moment and displays a persona mainly existing in Gene's mind. He's more a projection than a real character. So receiving a drastic reappraisal when meeting Jeff in a context Gene created and is in control off goes along with a completely different perception of him.
@BasteonSanton
@BasteonSanton Год назад
The only problem with that is this universe is as strictly literal as a work of television can be. The writers tied themselves in knots maintaining fidelity to the world they were creating. The characters in this world are almost always exactly as they represent themselves in that moment. It's really anti-lynchen. Tbh I loved Don's performance and it's hard to reconcile Pat's performance because it is an entirely different way of playing the character. I wish they would've just refilmed the s4 scenes because it really wasn't fair to Pat. In a way the character won't ever be entirely his.

@@BasteonSanton I disagree, upon rewatching breaking bad over the past week I recall a scene in season 1 just after Walt had murdered for the first time and he is teaching a class and one of the students asks him “is this going to be on the midterm?” however when he first says it Walt and the audience hear it as “is this going to be on the murder?” Implying that what the audience is seeing isn’t necessarily the 100% objective facts of the situation and that we’re actually seeing this world through Walt’s perspective, therefor I find it, at least believable that Gene’s perspective of Jeff was different before he got to know to know him better and that’s the reason he looked and sounded different to both Gene and the audience. Although I’m well aware that that wasn’t the original intent with the recast, they were just unable to get Don Harvey back to shoot it in time, but it works for me as an explanation/justification.
@BasteonSanton
@BasteonSanton Год назад
@@DylanHart8This is probably just a matter of opinion. I do remember that scene and it's really the exception that proves the rule. It's as close to a realistic portrayal of a trauma induced auditory hallucination as you can get. It goes without saying people hear things that aren't there. They see thing's that aren't exactly as they really are. You can show this in a story without undermining the viewers trust that things are as they appear. In Walt's case the writers explicitly show he misheard. He mishears the question. There's a beat of panic. Student repeats the question. It's so obvious that Walt is stressed and in a manic state but that's besides the point. Mur-Der/Mid-Term. You don't have to understand a person's psychological state to see how those two words could be mistaken. This is just my opinion but what you're talking about with Jeff is something entirely different. It's not a small moment. A shadow moving out of the corner of your eye or thinking somebody said hey when they really didn't. It would undermine Gene's mental state and basically throw into question his entire Omaha experience. He could've just been in purgatory the entire time. Walt killed him that basement at the vacuum shop. It's really a matter of opinion. You're free to think what you want. I just don't like going down that rabbit hole. I love the show because the characters feel real therefore I'm invested in following them on their journey so I have a fairly rigid perspective. Plus I don't think the writers intended it to be a hallucination. I think Don had other obligations and the writers didn't have the runway to rewrite.

@@smashyrashy I'm a diehard Vince fan. I'm not saying it distracted from the Jeff-related storyline. Nippy, Breaking Bad, and Waterworks are still incredible. I just don't think you can write the recast off as an artistic choice. It was a scheduling problem that they couldn't write their way out of like they did with Raymond Cruz.

I've been a fan of Pat's since I first saw him in Ghost World all those years ago and was one of the people who wasn't disappointed in the slightest when I heard he had been cast as Jeff in Don Harvey's place. Don was great but I kept telling everyone, just wait, Pat's gonna knock it out of the park, and he did! Big fan of Great World of Sound, The Innkeepers, Cheap Thrills, and so much more. Great to see Pat as well as Pete!

For just a half a second I honestly thought Gene was going to strangle her. I don't buy that Saul was adverse to murder in the abstract. He pushes them to murder Badger. He pushes Walt to kill Jesse. But I never thought he could look someone in the eyes and take their life especially someone not in the game. My heart sunk when I thought it was all about to end with him strangling sweet Carol Burnett.

Pat Healy did a great job as Jeff 2. Recasts suck because I like when there's consistent continuity but Pat played the Jesse to Gene's Heisenberg really well and I only wish one of the actors were just in the part for every episode be it Pat or Don. I'd like to know for sure if anything was changed to account for the different performances, I don't think they changed the ending they had in mind at all but I do think they played more to Don Harvey's strength as a weird looking dude and Pat's strengths as sort of a strung along schlub. Pat is also great with the fans being one himself and seems like a nice fella. Can't wait for in like five to ten years for him and Don to be starring in sketches like "Those two Jeffs" when Chicanery guys start getting careers lol

I was pretty bummed at the reaction people had when Pat was cast as Don's replacement. Didn't even give him a chance and people were saying he's a bad actor for the job when all we had seen at that point was his eyes and forehead. Pat did amazing and Don did amazing as well, but Pat looks the part more for the Jeff we got to see fleshed out. I think Don would've done great too, but he came off as an intimidating to Gene character from the beginning, when really Jeff was just a fan who was interested in a piece of the crime life. They're both great actors, but like any role, one person is a better cast than the others, and Pat just feels more Jeff to me since we found out who Jeff really is.
@FreshNews247
@FreshNews247 Год назад
Oh yeah I didn't replace Pat with Don I replaced Don with Pat if you know what I mean. I still think don would have come off very differently than what we got with Pat. Because he's Jeff felt like another victim of Jimmy's where I think Don you would have wanted locked away.

I AM NOT CRAZY! I am not crazy... I know he swapped those actors! I knew it was Don Harvey, one from We Own This City. As if I could ever make such a mistake. Never. Never! I just- I just couldn't prove it. He- he covered his tracks. He got that idiot who made the teaser to lie for him. You think this is something? You think this is bad? This.. This chicanery? He's done worse. Kaylee! Are you telling me an actor just happened to be recasted like that? No! He orchestrated it! VINCEY! He made two hour long black and white filler episodes. And I watched them. I shouldn't have.. I even bought an AMC+ subscription. What was I thinking!! He'll never change. HE'LL NEVER CHANGE. Ever since Breaking Bad. Always the same! Couldn't keep using the same actors! But not our Vincey, couldn't be precious Vincey! Swapping them blind! And he gets to be a the greatest show runner ever? What a sick joke! I should have stopped watching when I had the chance, and you- you have to stop watching! You-

@UltimatePower01
@UltimatePower01 Год назад
@@jordanwillrog you can rationalize the recast as Gene’s perception of him changing. Gene trying to hide his Saul persona, and in Jeff’s intro, he seems intimidating because he doesn’t want to be exposed. This meaning can be found in the last episode too, in the bus. Jimmy sees the sweat of the guy in front of him and you can feel the unease of knowing who he was. Once the guy turns around and he is as non threatening anymore.
