I am astonished to see this historical video! It was wonderful to see the Jumeau process of pouring heads so many years ago. Thank you so much for sharing this important work with us!
What a lovely treat to see this actual footage . Its astonishing to think all these precious doll were all made like this. Thank you David for sharing a part of history with us and allowing us to witness fabulous doll making at its finest Thank you
I knew that there were vintage films of the later Jumeau/SFBJ usine because I had spotted what appeared to be images of French bisque doll heads in production in a fairly random rough compilation of what appeared to be scenes shot in European doll factories across several decades and in several companies and countries, and in a number of doll media but no description and no credits for any of the images. Whilst some of the footage in the compilation appeared to be of plastic doll making in the 1950s/60s from Italy, other footage clearly showed bisque doll production and the heads looked like Jumeau. Your video confirmed my hunch! Yet as there were scenes of wig-making and hair dressing, and a display of finished dolls in the compilation, there may be MORE footage out there waiting to be ID'd. [More Pathe footage?] Also it is extremely interesting when you place this film alongside the previous four decades of both drawn and photographic images from inside the Jumeau doll factory. Given that Emile Jumeau also had interest in early commercialisation of accessible photograph techniques, there is an interesting overlap there as well!
