Asbury was rough in the 70.s and 80.s.. Used to drink nextdoor at Golddiggers, where the outdoor stage is now.

I remember btuce singing at the stone poney one of many clubs i went to..Park place is also a hot club down the street bk in the 70s .80s ❤

I grew up on the Jersey Shore, about 10 miles South of Asbury Park. Bruce used to show up everywhere. He'd be checking waves on his Harley, or Surfing Manasquan Inlet and yes just randomly showing up at a bar and playing for an hour. Before the days of social media which makes things like that impossible. My buddy, who has been to about 40 Bruce shows was at Gleason's Bar one night. Total dive bar, dark inside and a guy sits down and he starts talking to him for over an hour. My buddy said he never really saw who he was talkin to. Well, when he got up to leave and my friend realized it was Bruce. Best part of Stone Pony is the Summer stage. Sit on the Boardwalk, listen to the bands for free, as they played across the street at the Pony. If you're curious what Asbury used to look like before making it's big comeback....watch YT clips of the Sopranos, Tony is having weird dreams and Big Pu$$y is the talking fish. That was Asbury at it's worst. Miles of Oceanfront with nothing but abandoned building all boarded up. Never a person in sight. Surfing was even illegal back then. I'm glad it made a comeback in 2006 or so.

The movie City By the Sea shows it as well. I had forgotten until I saw that film that I had ridden the carousel as a kid. My old roommate was from Brick. One night, his mother gets woken up by a phone call at 1 am. "Hey, mom! I just did shots with Bruce Springsteen!" "That's nice, honey. Be careful going home." *click*

@Crash1025Bandicoot7 Immigration was a problem under Trump as well and was up from under Obama. The economy was not as great as Trump claimed and, of course crashed in 2020. Trump was very critical of the military, claiming to know more than our generals and mocked POWS. "I prefer my heroes not to be captured." We are drilling more oil than ever, including under Trump. Biden added 800,000 manufacturing jobs in 2.5 years Biden signed the chops act, bringing jobs back to the US. Crime is down under Biden,particularly murders Biden supports the Constitution. Trump has said to throw it away. Biden attends church. When asked about his relationship with God and how he prays, Trump just the other day said that Evangelicals love him and people pray for him. That was not an answer. He can't quote The Bible and has no religious history. Biden is pro-Americans. Trump is pro-Trump. Trump wants to lock up his enemies and feels that drug dealers (who deserve jail) should get the death penalty. Trump tried to overturn a free and fair ejection, the opposite of being pro-democracy. You can't be pro-equality and ban trans-people from the military.

Thanks for the reality check. Makes me think Trump and cronies want to be rock stars, but they don’t know a talented musician when they see one. Maybe it’s about working at a different “speed”.

I somehow have never been there, but I grew up three miles from The Stone Pony. And, yes, Asbury Park was a mess for decade. Garry Tallent (E Street Bassist) graduated from my high school...before I was born.
