Kolkata Metro is the oldest metro railways in India and the Subcontinent. India has the world's 2nd most metro (rapid transit) systems jointly with the U.S. with 15 systems, currently, with China being the first having 40+ systems. At least 6 more metro systems are currently under construction in India.
Another nice video! Good to see that both of you are exploring Kolkata in the best possible way available to you..would definitely suggest you take the East Metro from Sealdah Station (it would open very soon) to Sector V in Salt Lake. It's the newly opened section of the metro. It's really modern..if you do that journey in the day time, you will not only be able to see the eastern side of the city (like the EM Bypass, Salt Lake) properly but also be able to visit places like New Town (It's a beautiful new township) alongwith another satellite township called Salt Lake..There are a couple of nice places like the Eco Park, Biswa Bangla Gate (both in New Town) and City Centre and Nalban (in Salt Lake) to visit in this weather..
@@DodoExplorers You would love it..along with the ride, you would love that part of Kolkata as well...currently the East West metro runs services from Phoolbagan to Sector V in Salt Lake.so you can explore places like Salt Lake and New Town which are not too far from Sector V Station..
None of them currently connected by the metro The East west metro only connects Phoolbagan with Sector V which is mostly just residential and commercial not touristy

Hi Gigi & Michael. I'm so glad and happy that you guys came to Kolkata, the city of Joy, and the state of Bengal as well, with utmost respect towards our people & culture and along with that enjoying the city as of your own. I was just randomly scrolling through RU-vid and found this video here, and just loved your way of presentation of the video. What I liked most about you guys that you guys came to Kolkata with proper research and knowledge about the place and its systems, and respecting the culture of people, unlike most youtubers who just end up being a crybaby, complaining about everything, and lack of knowledge about the place ends them up with a wrong concept about this magnificent city. You guys were honest, to the point and respectful towards the people the whole time, and I just loved that. Carry on with the excellent work you guys are doing, Kudos. You guys probably are in Darjeeling now. Enjoy the hills there bro, and I wish you extreme good luck to view the magnificent Mt. Kanchenjangha because its too eluding thus time of the year. Be safe, enjoy.
This metro you rode and saw, was built at a time when we got engineers from the former East Germany and Soviet. So there's a touch of a Soviet-era design in this old underground route, though later on the majority of it was constructed in late 1990s-2000s. Btw, it is the only metro in India till date which has a cheaper rate of ticket.

You should visit The EcoPark , Science City in #cityofjoy ❤🙌🏻 And Also should visit others places of India just like entire KASHMIR , LADAKH , SHIMLA , GANGTOK , KERALA ..Don't miss these beautiful places 😇✌🏻🏕🏞⛰🏝🏖
Line 1 or North-South metro is the old Metro but Line 2 or East-West Metro in Kolkata is the new one and also contemporary and modern. Try to ride the latest one also.
My father then had taken me for a ride from Esplanade to Kaighat, back in 1984 when the very first and day Metro was inaugurated in Calcutta (then they called it), India.
@@mj1_5676 not very fair memory (I was 4.5 years old). Train back then had no AC, quite noisy, had yellow coloured compartments, no digital stations coordinates, they had Philips speakers (for announcements), hard copy printed tickets, as usual sliding doors, limited stations (Tollyguange to Esplanades) etc….
@@smookerji You're able to vividly describe quite a lot of elements of that day and yet you said not a fair memory.. I assume the experience of high-tech (for 80s standard) mobility solutions as 4.5 year old boy in Kolkata, in a pre-liberalized India, had some strong impact.. I am gald commented on your thread.. Kolkata has a special place in my heart.. and I am admirer of it's varied charms and idiosyncrasies
@@mj1_5676 Appreciate mate! City's name changed to Calcutta to Kolkata (2001). I love calling it Calcutta/Cal. 80's during my childhood - Bryan Ferry, Kiss, on Sony Walkman (OldSchool Cassettes) Modern Talkings, Back to the future, He-Man and 90's Internet dial-up (16k modem), still use my yahoo mail address (1996), sunday morning Holy Mass. I had left Calcutta in 2003, had visited in 2018..memories with glimpses (childhood, teen and young) :)
That's my city....happy that you visited our city of joy.....also thanks for uploading videos from bangladesh, especially shariatpur, thats the place my ancestors came from during partition in 1947.
Kolkata is only city in India has tram 🚊 the oldest existing tram network operating in India, and oldest operating tramway in Asia. Even tram cafe in Newtown.Try East-West Metro it is the new one and more advance. Btw we use metro smartcard everyday & East-West Metro introduces super awesome QR-code ticket.
@@thewasp3109 There are thousands of Bangladeshis in Brazil. You would find Bangladeshis even in remote Latin American countries like Paraguay, Bolivia etc.
Obviously Kolkata is better than Dhaka আর ঢাকাকে নষ্ট করেছে ঢাকার বাইরের মানুষেরা😔
Miss my city... Love your vlog❤❤❤❤... Have a wonderful time there... Don't forget to visit the mansion of our Nobel Laureate poet Rabindranath Tagore in Jorashako... That is pilgrimage for every Bengali...
go to nicco park and it's water park there is so much fun and do a journy on circular railway of calcutta and go to kumartuli and go to Dakshineswar & Belur Moth
Calcutta has British, French , danish , Dutch , Jews, Chinese, Burmese, Armenian influence among others. Through out 18th and 19th century it was the business and political of much of Asia.
It’s where the British first landed in 1694 approx and set up the base for the next 250 years of colonising Asia. Hence much of the city architectures of many Asian cities have resemblance with Calcutta’s town planning and layouts.
Very nice 👍 video in Kolkata metro journey .... Where u from ? I'm leving form Howrah near Kolkata city.... Thankyou very much. Welcome to India 🇮🇳 Bharat Mata ki jay.... Jai hind 🇮🇳❤️🇮🇳

I had been to Romania-Bucharest. Reached from Budapest by overnight Balkan Express. Stayed in a decent hotel, I think Lina. Used metro & tram there. Visited old town(little Paris), ex dictator's palace etc. Took Tarom to reach Belgrade then. Oh visited Constanta, Tulcea- Daneyub delta etc. Nice.
Why have you not visited Newtown Kolkata and eco park and seven wonders and wax museum etc... You have also not visited salt lake Nicco park etc... Also not visited zoo and Aquatica and Birla planetarium and kolkata science City... You should have a city map and plan your visits... Have a nice time ... Best wishes...
East West Metro might used to run with Very less capacity if north south Metro be extended upto Bally Halt instead of present terminal station Dakhineswar. As Bally Halt is connecting point of Dankuni section, Burdwan Chord and Main line
One info, Kolkata metro transmission line is thru 3rd rail, which is modern and correct as per elect engg theory books. But many upcoming metros in Asia coming with overhead transmission lines and overground lines. Those are for suurban trains not for metros or tube rail like London. But that theory being violated now.
one suggestion for you you can have a ride on tram that is available only in Kolkata in India try Dada boubdi biriyani and Arsalan biriyani. you guys can visit Indian Museum in Park Street. Zoological Park, Eco Park, Nicco Park, Kolkata floating market etc. if you guys have time then you can visit places like Digha, Mandarmani, Bakhakhali. these are beaches in bay of Bengal. then you can visit Sundarban the largest mangrove in the world comes in West Bengal and Bangladesh jointly. in North Bengal forest safaris are like Gorumara, Jaldapara, Chilapata, Buxa tiger reserve, Dooars forest are there that may not be possible by this time as you guys already in North Bengal for Darjeeling so may be next time. Coochbehar Murshidabad are heritage cities in North Bengal you guys can visit. West Bengal has many things to offer you best foods in India sweets Mountains, Beaches, forests, Historical places, Mangrooves etc.
Nagpur Metro is under Construction in some places likely in outareas. But in city it is running and very low cost only 10 rs and not crowded like Kolkata Metro because here people are not used to of it.
