In light of that, Sanvi Bangalore, editorial intern with The Wall Street Journal, joined CBS News to discuss some of the tracking tools companies are now using to monitor their employees' productivity.

Wells Fargo doesn't tolerate unethical behavior, yet they had to pay $3bn for opening millions of accounts without customer authorization.

I work cybersecurity for one of the nation's largest medical providers, and we routinely scan all computers for unapproved software. I recently scanned for a common mouse jiggler program, and was not surprised when it was found on most of the executive's computers. It was far less common on computers of entry level workers.

It’s because they their whole job is to make sure other people are working, and they are so lazy that tracking keystrokes is the only way to track productivity that they can come up with. You know they are not actually fixing any of the companies problems or actually talking with their employees to see which ones are properly doing their jobs.

If someone isn't doing their work it will eventually show in their productivity. I totally relate to the concept that people work in different ways to achieve the same result - as long as you're providing output and meeting deadlines, companies should not be tracking employees. It reduces employee morale.

Just like the execs and management with their endless zoom meetings. Lets schedule 10 meetings this week to discuss ways to boost productivity. Truth is most people have to "make work" to fill in their 40 hours. Could be solved by letting people work less hours, say 34-35 hour weeks or 4 days work weeks.

We had a program on our laptop that would track keyboard strokes. If you weren't stroking, a light would turn on and the time "away from your laptop" was tallied. Soon afterwards, you'd get a call from your boss. But, if you were in the office and this happened, the boss wouldn't call.

We're not taking advantage of remote work, we're fighting against a system that overworks everyone way more than they should, we're fighting for work life balance. I will never work for a company that is time oriented. Human progress is goal oriented, greed is time oriented. Is the project done by the deadline? Then leave us alone otherwise.

Unethical behavior from Wells Fargo, lol 🤣😂😂🤣😂🤣 that's rich! My employer has been using a tracking tool that even screenshots what pages your workstation is on every 45 seconds, for the last 5 years. This was on remote and in house employees and contractors computers. Your breaks and lunch are built into this system but it's the way of the future now. Good quality managers know who the good workers are and who shirks their responsibilities. There is no need for these productivity tracking AI app bots. Pay folks a fair wage, quit micromanaging everything and they won't use jigglers.

Its not about being lazy or deceitful. I use mouse move because I dont have 40 hours worth of work to do in a week, if i dont move my mouse my laptop locks and closes my VDI causing me to have to log in to everything again to work causing an unnecessary workflow hurdle costing 3 to 5 minutes each time I approach my station. I have automated my job to the point I do about 5 hours of work a week and all performance objectives are surpassed. Should I spent 35 hours a week pretending to do work I dont have? If management wants to make me more 40 hours they need to give me 40 hours of work I cant automate, good luck Im an IT security engineer, automation is part of the job. Luckily my management does not micromanage because they are happy with results, and they also do not work 40 hours a week.
