Not really @listenup2882, they are usually named after the location they are at which some case it's a European name and also African as well e.g. "The University Of Mpumalanga", "University of Ongoye" and so on..

European? You mean mostly English? They are named after the city/region which they fall under. The names of these regions names are usually English or Afrikaans but also of Black African names as well like University of Mpumalanga or University of Limpopo. We are a multiethnic and multilingual country but English is our language of governance and lingua Franca
