I spent months in the Egyptian Sinai desert in this Sudanese camp. Was literally the most peaceful time of my life. The clear water and miles and miles of pristine coral reefs that I would snorkel daily. The 7'8" cook named Haj, who I lamented that had he been born in America probably would be a multimillion dollar athlete, shaggy who acted as our concierge. The other staff that I traded a first generation Ipod for lodging and food who were so unbelievably happy for the music and hundreds of songs they could now play everyday..... the stars and tides you would see at night was truly a religious experience. I wish I knew how all those ppl are doing. This was pre 2006 before the re-entry of enemy combatants and weapons smuggling that killed the tourism industry
This is very cool research and I'm sure its going to play a big part in finding out how to save and recuperate the ocean's remaining life. It definitely feels bittersweet as we could have done more to prevent these things.
You wish, at the rate the world is heating up all coral will be gone in 20 years 🥲. Humanity isn’t cutting emissions at all. Whatever Europe decreases, growth in Africa and India makes up and China does nothing.
i don't know if there really is anything we could have done. the people who control the oil were going to destroy the planet for their pocket books regardless of what we did or said. stand up to them and you'll probably end up assassinated.
I hope it does. Because , when they were putting out shitty content for the past 8 years , they didn't care about bankruptcy , now when they know what's at stake , they have finally woken up and started to put out content to save their asses. Too late for that now. 🤷♂️ Let them take their feminist woke asses and go wipe toilets now after their bankruptcy.
I agree to an extent. For example, anyone who has (historically and contemporarily) played a hand in the continued criminalisation and stigmatisation of mind altering substance must be held accountable. I don't necessarily agree with the death sentence or life inprisonment, but we have to set an example to future generations... Otherwise how do we we make sure we never let people create these insane narrative/power structures? Anyone who has ever stigmatised or criminalised substances like DMT, LSD, Psilocybin, THC, Mescaline, Salvanorin A, MDMA, Ketamine etc... etc... MUST BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE for their crimes against humanity. Arguably some of the worst war crimes any humans have ever perpetrated. A reckoning is coming and it's not going to be pretty. Beautiful, yes. True, sure. Just, absolutely. But pretty? Nope.
@@Invading-Specious we have to create a secret society that will do the right thing at all cost, just like they did, really the battle of good and evil going on here.
Omg!! This docu is so fascinating! I hope vice can get out of the hole they are in now so we can keep getting beautifully well made content like this ❤. Thanks Vice and crew!! You guys are awsome!!!!
Same here I was so sad when I heard of the bankruptcy. They just needed to stop hiring a bunch a people who don’t do anything and retain the badass journalists
This is the most clear example for representing a climate catastrophie awareness in one documentary , the real end of world type of film, just thinkin bout how we gonna live in the next 10 years.. unlike any other media platform vice proved the world that nothing can stop them.
An absolutely fascinating documentary as striking for its sober, yet positive tone as its beautiful imagery and technical polish. Probes a potentially dispiriting subject with an uplifting portrait of committed pros trying to tackle the singular crisis of our times while retaining a sense of wonder. Really well done.
When a man says “God doesn’t create something without purpose” it’s not the same as “There’s a purpose for everything”. At least keep the man’s words as is VICE!
Been watching VICE since the very first days! the best reporting, stories, and Documenting on the planet! i would do and sign anything to help them in the current struggle they are going threw! hang in there guys.
Very interesting film. I live by the Red Sea (Dahab on the Gulf of Aqaba) and have wanting to see a documentary about the unique ocean we have here, I really hope that you can return and do some study in this area as well.
Combating Earth’s (our) warming oceans is exactly the mission of my company SolrBlu 🌊 We are focusing on water quality at WWTP’s and conserving Sea Ice at the poles. We want to work with locals, on a global scale beacuse that is how water operates! “Be Water, My Friend. Empty your mind. Be formless, shapeless, like water. You put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle, it becomes the bottle. You put it into a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.” - Bruce Lee Great Video 😊
Beautiful work, symbiosis is a much overlooked part of the natural world. Something I think we as a species could learn alot from. Underwater gardening is such a brilliant concept Nice 1 vice, best of luck for the future
If you've never seen coral extremely close up or never saw how it grows, it can be hard to imagine how truly sensitive most of them are. I've grown them, and they can handle some stress, but when there are 2 or more stressors, it seems to multiply the damage. So the high temps coupled with changing salinity and lower alkalinity of the water can stop growth and when it gets really bad the 1mm of flesh on a lot of coral can just peel off like shedded skin, and that's horrifying and pray that doesn't happen. Im surprised there's still a good amount of reefs left at the moment. It is scary bc we've been hearing about coral die off for years, and as mentioned it can get bad very quick so time is definitely ticking away before mass die off starts happening from disease or wrong water parameters and most likely spread to other reefs.
They train dolphins to record underground. When they're done recording, the dolphins are trained to take the memory card up to the boat. It's a brilliant system.
I'm 44 this year , I've watched the Gulf of Mexico turn into a place that is poisoned more and more each year , and the rivers that feed the Great Lakes Region in the Upper Midwest of America turn into a place where you can't eat the fish, How could people continue to run Industries they know are doing this to the environment?
Why do we need to eat fish when insects are abundant and nutritious? We need to keep track of all the different chemicals in the ocean so that if we absorb these chemicals we can pay the respective companies what we owe them for their contribution to the world. Nothing is free.
I just hope by the time these scientists learn what they are trying to learn the coral will still be here. Because from what i've gathered, that's not likely to be the case. Heartbreaking.........
Pollution started to creep in the Red Sea at an alarming rate! Reason: Tourists, pilgrims, general maritime traffic between Bab-El-Mandab and the the Suez Canal! 😮
It’s crazy that all this money goes into to research to figure out the problem when it’s obvious. Pollution and commercial fishing 🤦♂️ Invest the money into the solution… Too bad it’s not that simple
