And also really realize how much the band learned to perfect their music- they reportedly did a lot of sound-mixing themselves, as you can see in action in a video of them recording We Are The Champions. Of course they couldn’t do everything, and the technicians behind their music worked wonders, but that perfectionist commitment to their art is commendable.

Just an amazing documentary. Brian May's walkthrough on the song, with all these parts being isolated, is almost like DaVinci explaining each stroke of the Mona Lisa. Bohemian Rhapsody is not only a rock and roll classic, its one of the greatest pieces of music ever written, and the idea of it is so unique and "out there", that it is fascinating to watch and listen to the creation of it. This song is musical architecture. It's a sonic painting. What creative vision Freddie had!! Also, I never realized how often Freddie changes the tonal key center throughout the song. When the vocals are removed, it's much more apparent. He used the lead and harmony vocals to transition smoothly into new keys and back again. So with the vocals removed, the key changes come as much more of a surprise. Freddie had the soul of a classical composer. Had he been trained in classical composition from an early age, I'm sure he could have been a very good composer.
