For those talking about the gift shop. I worked at a museum, and they rely pretty heavily on gift shop revenue. If they charged what they needed with the tickets, most people couldn't afford it. And having merch with their name etc helps spread the word about the place. That's actually how I found out about this place years ago when someone had a shirt I believe it was. Plus, little stuff helps kids remember the story through Association. The whole point of the exhibits is to help people, piticularlly children, learn more. Learn what they felt going in the water and why it was impossible for them to live. How steep the deck was and why no one could stay on, etc. Children learn the best through hands-on experience, and some adults. Way better then just reading a plague that doesn't give you the depth of connection that seeing and feeling does. And little children can't read, but they can touch, see and feel. It's been over 100 years. It is like any museum of history. Arguments could be made for or against any interactive exhibit or gift shop.
exactly my point. The titanic was tragic and they do a great job of honoring the victims and as someone who's been there it's not lighthearted all the way around.
Honestly, as an archivist, the giftshop seems more based on pop culture and hardly in poor taste for the people. The passenger cards are an incredible way of helping peiple relate emotionally as well.❤
@@kellysnyder1405 I really couldn't care less if it's for kids or not. OBVIOUSLY slime is geared towards kids, but I'm not going to take my kid to the Salem witch museum and buy them baby's first noose.
In the national WWII museum in New Orleans, they give you a card with a random soldiers name. Throughout the museum you can find out more and more about your soldier by scanning your card at certain stations and at the end of the museum you find out if your soldier perished or lived and if they received any medals or not
*"Never Let Go cookies"* I don't know why that part is so morbidly funny to me. Maybe because on how tragic the Titanic sinking was and having the gift shop reference to the movie like that is just.... something else! 🤣
I went there a few months ago, and there was even a section for this kid who built a massive Lego model of the ship and how he almost quit multiple times and stuff. The leaning thing was also very cool
I'd rather take the trip At least you'd see everything through their eyes once you've passed and it would be instant not like the 1,500 + that had to try and survive in that freezing water
I wondered which of the 3 (also one in Orlando, FL) it was. We live in Northeast Indiana and thinking I’ll add this to a summer trip for us & the kids.
It's a very nice experience. They not too long ago allowed people to start taking pictures and posting the attraction, i guys to bring in more customers. It's kind of heartbreaking to see how many people lost their lives all at once at that time.
Iceberg slime goes hard, not literally, I just mean it's cool. I got a little ship in a container of a blue gel substance as water and the rest regular water to act as air. There's a mini titanic in there and an iceberg. I got some cool free stuff and our tour guide treated me and my brother like kings cause it was our birthdays. Really worth going, and the ship looks great when driving by at night.
I would want one of those sapphire blue heart necklaces. When I saw it in the movie, I immediately thought of how gorgeous it is. Even if it’s not real I would get one from the shop. I hope I don’t sound disrespectful I just really like how the necklace looks. I can see why people feel some type of way about there being a shop in general because of how it looks but as long as there isn’t any disrespect to the people who experienced this, I would buy something there to always remember the Titanic and acknowledge those who did and didn’t survive. I couldn’t imagine how scared and hopeless they felt. All the children that were lost, how unbearable it would’ve been to say bye to family members not knowing if you’ll see them again. The cruel temperatures, the freezing water, such a tragic accident.
Honestly I don't think some people understand that the whole point of the museum is to educate and pay respect to the dead So what if they are selling merchandise it's not insensitive its their way of letting EVERYONE experience it without paying like $500
@@gooseosessooeexactly, they have to make money somehow. Hell, the Anne Frank museum and auschwitz have gift shops lol, people act like this is a new idea
Jesus Christ, can you imagine a 9/11 museum where you get to experience what it would be like to jump from the tower to escape being burned to death in one of those fan rides and then it opens up to a gift shop where you get to buy miniature airplanes that hold red slime? And you get a card with a victim from 9/11 and at the end you get to see if they died or not? Who comes up with this shit? This whole place is psychotic. Edit: I don't have a problem with the museum. There are plenty of tragedy museums. And I don't have a problem with gift shops. But usually if you go to a gift shop for a tragedy museum, you don't see goofy toys. The 9/11 memorial doesn't have stuffed flaming planes. Tone is the issue. This museum should be less gimmicky and a little more respectful.
Its actually a pretty cool experience for the money. I got to see it back when a cut down version of it was in Montreal and it does give you a great idea of what this event looked and felt like. The gift shop is the gift shop but every gift shop is just as tacky, its how they get people to buy stuff. At least they werent selling Logitech controllers.
@GoldenPhoenix101 I'm not sure honestly. They might just sometimes set it up in other cities, but even still I don't believe it was as big. I'd much prefer seeing this one tbh. I do remember the ticket part vividly though, as well as a bear I got in the gift shop lol.
In the gift shop they should sell actual chunks of coal brought up from the titanic. I remember when the movie Titanic came out, they were selling it in the movie theater. I still have it in a small black box. I wonder if it is real or not.
There was a similar exhibition in Boston a while ago. My passenger boarding pass said I was Mary Kelly. That was my mother's maiden name. I found out this passenger did not make it. She was 3rd class from Ireland.
Mary Kelly from Ireland? Holy crap. Mary Kelly was the name of Jack the Rippers 5th victim. She was from Ireland. Amazing coincidence. Thr Jack thr Ripper victim was slaughtered in 1888.
I’ve been here before. I love this Museum , I also really liked the room where you could feel how cold the water was the ship sank. Me and my family did a contest to see who could keep our hand in longest.
Visited the traveling museum in Las Vegas years ago. It was awe-inspiring. Found names of what could have been relatives. Then later finding out grandparents almost went on the ship. Ended up on different ship from south Hampton to nova Scotia.
We went to this museum in Branso n, Missouri last spring break. It was amazing! Loved walking around the replica areas and pretending to be on the real Titanic. So many actual artifacts to see.
Loved the experience!! I got one of the musicians, can't remember which one tho. The mini replica of the Titanic, the cold pool thing(i lasted 30 seconds lmao), seeing the deck chairs, and the Grand Staircase were the highlights for me.
I think the the theme for this museum is fantastic in that it makes the people who were lost more real in the sense that you become one of the characters who actually were on the Titanic. It makes it so much more personal and real and impactful about an important historical moment in Maritime history.
We did the exhibit in Vegas with the card game. Something felt very uneasy about it almost immediately upon taking the cards. When I asked my girlfriend who she got, I went pale. She read aloud the same last name as my person on the card. We had gotten a in life matching newlywed couple. I took the cards back to the staff and showed them. They froze in horror and were speechless. All of these cards are shuffled at random and SHOULD NOT correspond. They had never seen it happen before. Some took photos of it when we finished the exhibit. For those wondering, the husband died. He gave up his seat on a life boat for another woman. P.S They do say that the exhibit is haunted, makes you wonder... 💀
My niece Tabitha went with her husband and two daughters to the museum and the dinner theater. They absolutely loved it they said it was wonderful the meal was superb the interactive dinner theater was riveting- I can't wait to go back to Florida and experienced this for myself with a herd of grandkids!
There is a multi millionaire (maybe billionaire) to that had plans to build an exact replica called the Titanic II, the only changes being gas not coal powered, and modern facilities like bathrooms and kitchens and stuff but other than that it was supposed to be an identical with the maiden voyage following the exact same route as the original Titanic but the project kept getting delayed over and over again, as far as I know the project was just scrapped because there wasn't enough funding.
@@itzy777 yeah idk I mean it was supposed to have it's maiden voyage in 2012 to commemorate the 100th anniversary lol like I said it keeps getting delayed over and over and over again. If it actually ever gets built, let alone sails at this point I will be absolutely, positively, completely, fucking astonished lmao
@@andrewbrinkworth1420 thats what i saw too. Then they had moved it to 2018 and now 2024… lol lets hope they do it then. It would definately be great to see it done
The person I got at the museum it was a Jewish baby and it was thrown overboard but then it survived and someone tried stealing me but then the mom got me back so yeah it was very fun
Read Psalms 109 verse 17 As he loved cursing, so let it come unto him:as he delighted not in blessing, so let it be far from him." There's other scripture too. Just try to break the habit. Not condemning you. The f word is just so overly used these days.
The first fucking class had to pay a lot of goddamned money, too, so I am sure their food was fucking scrumptious! Like, they probably ate that shit and were like “damn, that some fucking delicious food, like goddamn, that chef is a motherfucking genius!” And that gift shop is so fucked up. They just fucking want some money and that shit’s just messed up, especially that goddamned slime. The only explanation I can think of is maybe it is for the little kids; it would be way more fucking inappropriate if an adult got it for themselves.
People need to just leave it alone let these people rest in peace instead of trying to make a museum out of it. How would it be if I make a museum of someone's tragedy they wouldn't like it that much or at all so why do what about the Titanic just let them rest in peace without trying to do a money grab.
whilst i do think the gift shop is in poor taste and there are aspects of certain titanic museums that are in poor taste, the overall idea of a museum dedicated to a major event that changed the society and safety measures around ships is fine. the titanic happened over a hundred years ago at this point, it was such a massive ship, with such an interesting culture on board and that was luxury like most hasn’t experienced before. the way in which it sank and the senseless tragedy surrounding it all has interested ppl since it literally happened. a movie about it was put out only a month after the sinking. ppl have unfortunately been doing little money grabs for decades upon decades at this point. at least the bulk of the museums is meant to educate about the ship, the event and humanize the victims and overall be respectful. whereas on the flip side a literal survivor was forced to star in the movie about the titanic sinking just a month after it happened…talk about a cash grab and not being respectful…all survivors have since passed and whilst it’s important to respect the dead and respect the tragedy that took place, some of y’all need to understand that it happened over 100 years ago. some museums are a given and overall they aren’t disrespectful. again, the gift shop is another story but there’s many sombering and educational parts of the museum.
Yes the more respectful thing is to let everything they had be dissolved by bacteria at the bottom of the ocean, rather than preserving anything for their memory...
He didn’t show the most impactful part of the museum though. Standing at the bottom of a staircase and it’s blocked with a gate (just like it was for third class passengers down below) and water suddenly starts rushing in, filling the steps up, and within seconds the water is above your head. It was very bothersome, it was like getting gut punched. I can’t imagine what those people thought being trapped like that.
