they didn't "wait", the crash site was deep in the mountain, with the equipment JSDF at the time had, they could only make little progress pushing into the crash site by cutting a way through the trees and bushes (nearest roads were 40km away), and the first rescue team arrived on scene was JGSDF's paratroopers who parachuted into the crash site (yet they didn't search the tail section which was apart from the main fuselage wreck, the 4 survivors were later rescued by local fire crew who arrived on scene faster than other JGSDF units because they knew the terrain better) .

As an American, it appalls me that the nearby American airbase not only did not send up jets to get a visual of the aircraft. But at the same time a helicopter on scene with the capability to help was ordered away from a scene of mass suffering. Part of me would hope the helicopter pilot would have determined the order to leave was unlawful. Sadly reality is not as idealistic. The fact the rescue was so greatly delayed because of this hurts all the more.

The fact that no pilots in simulation could come within 30 minutes of the efforts of the actual flight crew has always stuck with me. In the Aftermath, JAL paid ¥780 million (US$7.6 million) to the victims' relatives in the form of "condolence money" without admitting liability. JAL president Yasumoto Takagi resigned.[20] In the aftermath of the incident, Hiroo Tominaga, a JAL maintenance manager, died from suicide intended to atone for the incident,[30] as did Susumu Tajima, an engineer who had inspected and cleared the aircraft as flightworthy, due to difficulties at work.[31] In the end, Japan Airlines, Boeing, and the Japanese government paid substantial compensation to the victims' families.

It wasnt shown in this video. But the actual voice recording of the captain paints are far scarier picture. They all knew they were going to die. In the last few moments the captain admitted defeat saying there was nothing they could do. They crashed in silence in the recording. Meaning none of them screamed. Instead taking the moment they had for themselves.

Unable to control aircraft using primary flight controls. Using differential power to attempt to control phugoid oscillations. Lowered gear to slow plane. Unsuccessful." for the benefit of the investigators and to reduce future accident occurrences. I keep thinking about how hypoxia was a concern for the people on board, but honestly, it probably would have been a blessing in disguise to slowly go unconscious than it was to suffer though this agony for 30 grueling minutes for most of these people. What a long time to know that you're going to most likely going to die horribly and having to just wait. Then to think that there were people who survived this and then had to lay dying all night in the forest while watching potential rescue fly away is.... this one is actually really hard for me to watch. Just because you don't expect survivors doesn't mean you shouldn't at least try as soon as you can to confirm... this proves that. This was an amazing flight crew (including stewardesses) and it's incredible that they didn't give up even as they fought for control in a hopeless situation right up until the very end. Talented pilots in an unwinnable situation.

If I was in a plane bucking up and down and then going into a crazy ass dive, and the stewardess came over the speaker saying there was no need for alarm, I can't say that I'd take her word for it.

I've seen this tragic episode before but for the first time, I appreciate the shots of the airplane where the camera doesn't give away the sighf of the full tail section, until towards the investigation sections of the video. If they showed the damaged tail section earlier on, it'd give away one of the crux's of the story. (Aside from key components of the ill-repaired under carriage panel)

This is clickbait. The title should have been JAL flight 123, the worst crash of a single plane in history. A very popular title, IMO.

49:11 I'm not sure if someone can answer this for me (I know the narrator said that these are rumors so we gotta take it with a grain of salt.) But why would the Japanese blame the airline when in reality, technically speaking it was Boeing's fault no? If Japan Airlines contacted Boeing to do the repair, and Boeing fucked up the repair, why wouldn't the Japanese just blame Boeing and sue Boeing? I didn't see anyone talking about it so I would like to see everyone's thoughts about why the Japanese blame the airline of Boeing.

No Japan Airlines did repare it themselves but it was unsure if there was not a Problem With That plane in General but at the End it was Revealed That they should have let repared it from boing .

Wrong Title. It's not Aloha Flight 243. Instead, it's JAL Flight 123 Incident. They should correct the title/s next time, I don't to watch mixed up videos, as it was VERY Misleading.

Japans lack of empathy for human life after the crash to rescue any possible survivors is disgusting. No life should parish on account of someones ego or anal pains but unfortunately, the world rinses and repeats on exactly that too often
@s21763
@s21763 6 месяцев назад
The crash was in the night, so it would be impossible to see the crash. Also this was in 1985, so your thinking of “the world rinses and repeats on exactly that too often” is quite outdated for this.

Does anyone know why there aren't check valves in the hydraulic lines to seal off broken sections so the system stays pressurized?
@dan3162
@dan3162 7 месяцев назад
Each system is stand alone, so if one fails it’s fluid reservoir is separate from the other backups. The critical weakness is all 4 systems run their lines in the same vicinity so if one is damaged by explosion, it takes all 4 out simultaneously.
