I worked on RF-4Cs at Udorn Thani Royal Thai Airbase. They were outstanding aircraft, and some of them didn't come back after going to North Vietnam. There was another squadron with F-4Ds at Udorn. I wasn't involved with them. There is now a beautiful excellently restored F-4D sitting on a pedestal next to Executive Airport in Orlando, FL. It was flown by Col. Joe Kittinger. Some of you may know him. He landed his F-4 at NKP, which was a "secret" base in Thailand next to the Mekong River. He had mechanical problems and couldn't make it to Udorn. This is an excellent video!

The F-16 has a top speed exceeding Mach 2. The quoted top speed of Mach 1.2 is only at or close to sea level which it rarely flies at. The lower the altitude the more dense the air which creates more friction and resistance the aircraft must push itself through.

I worked on the F-35 production line for 5 years before I quit. Gross mismanagement, ridiculous work policies, and way way top heavy with management. They could cut half the management staff on the production line floor and still build a quality aircraft. Plus cut the cost in half.

You’re wrong…. The Phantom is not and has not ever been considered the best dogfighting aircraft in history, don’t get me wrong, it’s a badass jet but as far as a dogfighter goes the Crusader of its era would whip its ass all day long. Still it looks sooo cool

it was maybe one of the worst dogfighters for a long time, big and did not have a gun, still a capable fighter for its time but had a lot of flaws in the design that needed to be fixed added to the lock of the aircraft and it was a horrible aircraft to maintain. AND THE F 16 IS CAPABLE TO FLY FASTER THEN A BOEING 737 --- march 1,2 IS WRONG :-/ it is a march 2+ aircraft, even the sr 71 did not manage to fly fast at ground level, no aircraft can, the air is to dense.

@@banmadabon The two are in different categories though. The F-18 and raptor is along the same category of fighter as the phantoms where. The F-16 is an in close highly maneuverable fighter which is why they are using them now as drones because they can match or exceed the flight maneuvers of the newer fighters that have more computer power and thrust vectoring to help them achieve similar performance in close dogfight situations despite there larger size.

Another reason why the QF-4 is being retired is that there are only a handful left of them (All of the rest have been expended as target-drones) and no doubt when they're retired they'll all being to aviation museums.

The “popular” green and tan paint scheme was called South East Asia,or SEA, camouflage, and wasn’t “popular”. It was USAF regulation paint scheme and was 2 shades of green and the tan.

It is a very ugly paint scheme. The F-100 always looked best in natural metal. The F-101 Voodoo looked fantastic in Air Force blue. So did the F-106.

Good to know it’s possible to restart production years later, some aircraft can only be replaced with newer versions of the same. Hopefully they’ll start building Globemasters again in the future or even Raptors.

The B-17 bomber of WW2 = Max Internal and External load: 17,600 lb F-4 Phantom = 19,000 lb load. That's like hanging SIX Volkswagon Beetles on the hard points.

That's what I was saying they said Mach 1.2 but I know this is a Mach 2 possibly 2.15 2.17 I know it has to do with altitude and all that but when he said 1.2 I'm like what there's bombers that can almost go mock 1.2 well there is the B1 lancer can go that fast but I guess he's talking maybe about a full load at certain altitudes and yes the F4 phantom was a very very fast plane just couldn't maneuver very big and heavy but for the time was a great playing and it actually could probably still feel some rolls now but they use so many of them as drones to be shot down to shame

When I was 14 I lived in Del Mar California we lived off Del Mar Heights Road we would watch the blue angels in my friends backyard. We sat on the top of my friends Mark and Todd Addams swingset we watched a phantom crash into a hanger at Miramar during the Blue angels airshow the pilot parachuted to safety but some sailors died in the hanger. My father was a Navy flier he flew panthers.

The f35 can't take off vertically only land. Just needed to correct that lol. The f4 is a beast. My dad flew them in Vietnam and has a ton of stories. He eventually transitioned into the f15 in the 80s

@@alejandronacar2846 it can't operationally. It's called STOVL for a reason. Short Take Off Vertical Landing. The vertical take off is theoretical, minimal fuel, no payload etc. The guy my sister is married to (brother in law? 😂) is a systems engineer on the f35 and took me out to all the tests, first taxi, first flight etc, got to meet the chief test pilot multiple times, talk to him about it etc. I got to watch it all in person. It was pretty badass getting to do that.
