I have some criticism about this first season (pacing and screenwriting in particular), but if there is one thing I only have praise for, it's the cast and their acting. Good job everyone.
Have we watched the same show? The acting of Nynaeve´s actress and Perrin´s actor are mediocre at best. They either are completely void of emotions or are displaying weird expressions that are out of place (e.g. blinking constantly, excessive eyebrow movement, touching side of nose with thumb like a rapper from a recent MV) The others are doing a good job, but it´s still a bummer that the performances of 2 main characters are so unprofessional.
Ya with that part nailed they can the easiest things to improve on with pacing and VfX etc. A lot harder to go back on casting than VfX. So I’m stoked to see what they bring next season
@@utopia9000 The actors did a great job, the writing and show runner are to blame for anything else. We need to get rid of Rafe, and 90% of the writers.
Madeleine is such a terrific Egwene! But ALL of this casting is just perfect and the performances are top-notch. The chemistry among the cast is such a rare and wonderful thing.
@Mike Dalby I don't understand what script is trash. For some reason the script seems to have a billion views. But using the word trash doesn't mean anything to anyone. How is it trash and why should it be considered trash? Have you ever heard of constructive criticism instead of trigger words hoping to satisfy your desire for attention?
@Mike Dalby again I don't know what you mean by vomit. I know what vomit is but that's not what you are referring to. You're using trigger words, please use real meaningful descriptive words.
@Mike Dalby you didn't drop anything. Where? All you said was, is that enough to satisfy you, but I didn't see anything being said. You are an angry person.
Complaints about the writing and show choices aside, the casting has been spot on. Egwene has been perfect. Madeleine and her co-stars have done such a wonderful job with what they have been given.
Most of the acting was great and there was plenty of highlights. I think the show suffered from having only 8 episodes. Scenes at times looked rushed and poorly edited. Have high hopes though!
Shout out to the costumers and craftspeople who's skill and attention to detail made this show truly come to life! The cast were sensational, but the design and details of the world helped the performances sing. Can't wait for Season 2, can we have it now please?
I have been in tears every episode this season, just the feeling of seeing and rediscover long lost friends in the wheel of time, people I grew up reading about. And now I can share it with my wife for the first time. Sure, I have some comments about pacing and changes from the books, but mostly, I just loved it! Great cast, great acting but for the love of the light, keep to the lore as much as possible. =)
I think all of the actors have done a phenomenal job. Even with limited character development due to the fast pace, they all have conveyed the deep connections between the two rivers folks. Also, I really believe the devotion between Lan and Moiraine. Well done to cast and crew!
Great casting top to bottom.the chemistry between the cast is phenomenal. The story is very intriguing and keeps people who have read the book guessing while maintaining the feel of the books. I love how welcoming the show has been to those who have not read the books. I know so many people new to the WoT who absolutely love the show and are now hooked. Please keep it up amazon and new fan please dont let the very vocal minority dissuade you from enjoying this amazing story and community. Cant wait for season 2 and beyond
I feel the casting, acting, costuming, set design & music are perfect. I think the pacing in spots was jarring due to lack of time. I'm very impressed with the series they gave us considering the obstacles they were faced with. I cannot wait for season 2! Please make it 2022!!!
I’m excited that my least favorite part of the whole story which is the first book can be where they test it all out and make mistakes or have other issues. The best parts of the story are still to come and if they can make all the improvements that other shows have done after a season 1, then this show will be very very good!
I understand Madeleine's thoughts on book reading. Especially Her character Egwene's arc completely goes the opposite direction from the eye of the world. Such trauma Egwene endured in those books would change an Actor's perception of that character too early. It would be best that She portrays this character season by season fashion. As I am sure Rafe will change her character's traits a bit suitable for adaptation requirements.
@Mike Dalby I disagree I liked the show. Yes, I disagreed with few choices They made but overall I liked where the show is heading. Before even getting a show I knew that 1:1 copy of the book is near impossible for a show. BTW the books have its fault as well(TEOTW ending was confusing, romance is dumb writing except Min-Rand and Nynaeve-Lan, Egwene become loving Rand to antagonist to Rand and list goes on). Adaptation already changed in a good way in some of the aspects I mentioned which is badly written in books. I am optimistic that Rafe and his team will deliver on fans expectations or at least They deserve book fan's benefit of doubt.
@@abhishekdas2352 Rafe destroyed everything RJ created in his 15 books. The magic, the lore and all character arcs! Barney Harris was a very lucky boy to get away from this. I keep hearing the actors say they’ve read the books but now I’m hearing I only read some parts. At this point I’d be surprised if Rafe himself read the books. Season 2 will be worse than season 1.
Casting was great - as for writing, it’s so bad you’d think they hired a guy who’s biggest achievement is losing Survivor 15 years ago to run the show or something.
Matt in the books has a great destiny. I cannot see THAT character from the books departing from all of that series opportunity. And you are going to love the "Sea/Ship people" ... they are an epic part of the books.
very true, Mat Cauthon has a fantastic arc. We don’t know what happened to Barney to force this decision but I do know that the pressures of bringing one of the most beloved characters in fantasy fiction would not be an easy burden for any of our cast, and I wish some fans would remember it is real humans they are talking about when they put down cast and crew.
If Rafe plans on filming 2 books per season, then we can expect 7 seasons minimum. I do hope Amazon has these characters under contract for the full 7 years with an option for an 8th year.
I am kind of hopping Rafe dies before he can destroy another season. If not for the acting this show would not be worth any investment of time. I don't understand how they could have butchered episode 8 so badly as they did. I get that Rafe hates men, but I mean really changes to Lew Therin, making it so he knew the taint/corruption would happen is just stupid. Show the world un-ravaged by war in the 2nd age makes no sense; there is just a complete lack of understanding of the source material.
@J Nymn They changed a lot of things so maybe these Amazon fans (they are not The wheel of the time fans) will get another final. Mat and Perrin will mary and there will be unicorns and skittle's rainbows.
Do ANYONE know the song they have playing when Josha’s behind the scenes footage plays?? I have been searching for that song ever since I first heard it in Episode 2!! I can’t seem to find it and it isn’t on either soundtracks & I don’t know why. It’s my favorite song from the show and I will be so sad if they don’t make it available for download :( PLEASE tell me someone knows the name of that song and where to find it! 🙏🏼
@@aldieb07 Not really, Rand figures it out in the second book; and the other forsaken make mention of it, Ishameal has been using the True source so long it has driven him mad to the point he thinks he is the dark one.
1)Is someone weaking the seal of dark one didn't the Last dragon sealed him permanently? 2)Why didn't the dark one show these vision to them during the start of their journey it would have been better to convert them all to dark? 3)Can forsaken be killed permanently or they will have their body destroyed and can make their body again later? 4)Was the king Fal Dara ever jealous of Malkier because they were in front of them taking glory for protecting the world? 5)Padan fain has the same knife as mat did he stole from white tower?
I'll reply to the questions I can answer without spoiling: 1- Someone drilled into it (it's complicated) 2-all three boys saw visions and had conversations the entire journey in the book. 4- interesting question, I'd say they bumped up the role of Lord Agelmar from the Steward he actually is and made him more than he was. 5- yep same knife good eye!
1)Was the dark one sealed below the platform on which rand was standing? 2)I read in the comments that 2 of the forsaken tried to stop them in the blight how did the forsaken appeared in front of them when they are sealed?
You are correct, Robert Jordan does do a great job. Problem is, so far this has not been Jordan's Wheel of Time. The actors do their best with what they are given and directed to do..... the fault in the show thus far has been in script writing and directing. The story telling in the show has been terribly disjointed thus far and it is following no rules from the books or within it's own guidelines ( or lack thereof ). You have characters doing things far beyond their capabilities at this point in their story arc and you have others who are literally doing nothing. You have done nothing to explain the division of the one power ( Saidin and Saidar ), You've referred to the Dragon as the Dragon Reborn, the number of mistakes are so numerous that I don't know how you could possibly get it back on track unless you just change the rules each episode and make it up as you go. Egwene went from barely being able to make a flame to resurrection of the dead with no training whatsoever and she wasn't even wearing ruby slippers.. not sure how much of a power arc that leaves her...so I guess she will just have to have personal grown.
Bruh, she alllways had the ability to raise dead from the get go. Leave Mary Sueeee alone. As a fellow audio and bibliophile of the wheel of time I share your pain. Read 1 time and listened twice. Tbh it's black pilled me to where I listen to music, read books, and avoid modern TV like a plague.
@Mike Dalby I still have plenty of issues with the casting from the start but I'm just happy the actors are actually good even if they don't reflect the books even a little
Uh... no one's noticed this... s01e08 the angreal or sa'angreal or ter'angreal that ishy dark one wears and uses(?) is the same angreal or terangreal or saangreal that lews therin is wearing in the cold open. Shows clearly when he reaches for baby in crib saying today he makes the world safe for it... same object...
@@colejohnson4376 I must say I doubt Aes Sedai wore simple jewelry in AoL. Those were all Ter'angreals or Angreals. I doubt they had Sa'angreals as a jewelry because all known Sa'angreals in the book series are way to powerful and they had the buffer issue too.
All the actors and actresses are doing a great job, but your showrunner is annihilating an amazing story and leaving absurd plot holes. It's incredibly disappointing to see what they are doing with such a great and classic story.
The final episode of this season ended my hopes for the show. After the finale I re-read the first 3 chapters of the eye of the world and was more hooked than the TV show ever allowed. Congrats to the actors for doing their best with the hollow story they are presented with.
Your comment doesn't help anyone understand the issue. What does hollow mean, what could have been better and why? I believe in constructive criticism because it helps everyone understand you and how you feel, and the person you are referring to.
@@simply_the_dev7588 You're right - it was a quick comment that didnt' go into any depth. Ironically, this is what has happened to the show so far. They are giving you tons of information, and not all of it relevant to the story line. When they do give you a hint of some information you need, it's not expanded on in a way that makes you understand. I have full 15 minute conversations with non book-readers just to give them background information that is in the book material and makes them better understand the story.
The cast is pretty good. I like what Madeleine has done with Egwene. Unfortunately the writing has been weak and the magic system has been totally destroyed. Not to mention the pacing and the muddled mess they made of the end of the season.
Did Amazon delete all the negative comments? Acting was good. The season as a whole was Meh. Got nostalgia with the PS 2 graphics. Haha Episode 8 was as bad as season 8 last episode of GOT. Did Rafe hang out with D&D and ask how to F up a show by trying to be an artist instead of just telling the story that’s written? And why does Brandon keep saying this is just another turning of the wheel? This is clearly an “artist” scribbling in crayon outside the lines when the assignment was to stay inside the lines and they’re using the color black to draw a rainbow. 😕
Are we seriously just ignoring all the criticism and controversy caused by episode 8? And I don't mind the changes, they'd be fine. But the fake-out deaths for instance? The Nynaeve/Egwene scene in particular not conveying what it should (looks as if Nynaeve died and Egwene resurrected her which was not the intention). The battles making no sense whatsoever? You're breaking down nothing in this episode.
I wasn't a fan of the finale, but it's by no means a dealbreaker, regardless of what the griefers say (seriously, touch grass. For your own good). If the pattern for recent fantasy adaptations is anything to go by, the first season is always the weakest and there's a sharp pick-up in the second. We saw this with The Witcher, why not with The Wheel of Time? Honestly, constructive criticism is fine, but throwing a tantrum over the nature of adaptations just makes you sound like a spoiled brat, not a fan of the books.
I believe criticisms are important for public comment, as it gives the showrunners some form of comments to go on. I am a book fan, and I have friends watching who have never ready the books. The finale was extremely weak, and didn't give pertinent information or clear lines of where the story will go next. The only story line that actually wrapped like a season finale was Rands.
@@daveneil9703 And that's fair enough, because you've framed it as a reasonable critique rather than as a tantrum. If you came out saying "ALL THE SHOW IS BAD. CANCEL IT OR FIRE THE SHOWRUNNERS AND WRITERS," I'd tell you to touch grass. It's all a matter of framing your thoughts in the right way. Like, the first season has major issues, but so did The Witcher and season 2 of the latter is solid. WOT can easily do the same.
@@airdrighmor1439 @PrinceCanuteVA They've hooked me with the Seanchan, and the fact that most of the proper elements are in place going forward. But the questions that my non reader friends ask that there should already be answers for need to be addressed very quickly next season.
Read the books. These series are such a disgrace. I never thought that someone could mess everything so bad. If you can't read - create your own fantasy universe and don't destroy others' work.
Disappointing. Like most book inspired shows/movies, this takes liberties and interprets the story using a fanbase for views and not delivering. Furthermore, this show is the opposite of apolitical, spoiling the show further.
I loved the big reveal at the end of the 8th episode. I had no idea the great lord of the Dark was... Rafe Jenkens he was able to break the wheel of time with his horrible ideas and poor execution. I feel so bad for the main characters, they did great jobs; but the power of the Dark one is just great. The true source is actually the power of Wokeness, using it destroys the mind and corrupts all things it touches. We need to find a way to seal Rafe away for at least 3000 years, lest his corruption on the wheel continue beyond anything that can be fixed.
The actors and book series deserve much better writing than this. Is it abominable ? No, some of it is good besides the final episode, but this is 10 mil/episode. Watch an episode of GOT season 1, which this show desperately wants to match the success of, and come back and tell me this writing is acceptable. The stakes have been trivialized, and the pacing is bad. This could easily have been a win for feminism which seems to be its goal, and I would have been celebrating right along with everyone else if the writing was good and the other half of the characters not ignored in the process.
Unfortunately, I have to agree with much of what you say here. Especially like the bit about stakes being trivialized and the lost opportunity to highlight matriarchy with badass dialog and power moves.
I think she did an ok job with what she had to go on. That said, Rafe completly butchered the season. Will be interesting so see how they will cut season 2
The writing, pacing, editing and cgi sucked. The casting and acting was great, as well as set design and location scouting. S1 is a 6 for me. It needs to do better
@@simply_the_dev7588 if you want elaboration just search on RU-vidr's criticism of the season 1. Nobody has time to write long paragraphs in the comment sections.
The comments reek of delusional minds WheelOfTime fans so desperately want a WoT show they settling like people do in a relationship We all know how settling goes Waiting for Wheel of Trainwreck season 2 to come out .....
Agree with a lot of comments here that the acting so far has been amazing. But the show SERIOUSLY needs to improve the screenwriting, especially with regard to dialogue!! With the character of Mat and his sense of humor gone, everything else feels unbearably stilted and unreal. Most egregious example: Lan and Nynaeve's dialogue before Lan leaves for the Blight. Urgh...
SAVE the show from Rafe Judkins !!! Very bad editing, stupid script and bad action scenes. Season 2 will fail if you don't fix it. Now you're in luck, season 1 is breaking records. Because we take so long. We do not expect anything good from season 2. With love from Russia.
I feel like I need to duck and cover when I say I have totally enjoyed this show. So much so that I am reading the first book which is good if a bit slow. The comment section should be renamed spew on the wheel of time. The nerds are just begging for the show to totally fail thinking that somehow it should only appeal to them and nobody else. I am on page 152 chapter 11 seriously in 152 pages not a lot has happened apart from a little Trolloc scrap. In my mind I am clocking all the changes from the book to the series. And yes they have shifted scenes and dialogue for instance the speech that Moiraine makes in two rivers has more punch in tv series when they are travelling on horses when the group starts singing. her spinning her cane and making a longer version to town folk only so the town folk can apologise and say sorry isn’t as powerful. If you not expecting anything good then its simply don’t watch. But for some reason I feel you will tune in once a week for 8 weeks so you can just moan and spew on the 2nd season.
@@claudiabailey5302 The books are far from perfect. But they have a well built lore. The TV show does not respect that and that causes a lot of trouble. Just a few to mention: Saidin vs. Saidar - Moiranine cannot teach Rand because she has no idea how Saidin works, all male Channelers are dead.. Not because she's afraid of Rand going mad. Since Angreals and Sa'angreals are attuned to either Saidin or Saidar, the show creates a little problem here with the Sa'angreal she hands to Rand. It is not explained what is the difference between the rare Angreals and the even more rare Sa'angreals, so for the audience that is just a macguffin. BUT. If she was hoping Egwene is the Dragon, why carry a Sa'angreal for Saidin, which can only be used by a man? Does she have a Sa'angreal for Saidar too? If she does, why didn't she use it when they were attacked previously? IF Sa'angreals in the show work for both men and women, I must ask again: if Moiraine had that with her all the way long, why didn't she use it? Moiraine says in ep4 that women cannot see men's weaves so there must be something of a difference here, yet it is end of Season 1 and we still don't know even the basics of the magic system. There are so many small and unnecessary deviations from the original story by now, that this cannot be called adaptation. This is a rewrite of the story with some similarities. It's like a poorly constructed fan fiction. 😐
@@claudiabailey5302 I have no pretense about the compliance with the books. I look at it as a new turn of the Wheel)) But the technical side of the series upsets me. Have you watched the show at all? You saw that the editing was ragged, that unprocessed scenes from the set with a high frame rate were inserted, some of the dialogues were cut out. There the materials were probably filmed for 10 episodes, but the editing is very poor. The combat scenes are weak. fencing is weak. I'd love to watch the director's cut.
@@Eretikus-Nomrog A new turning of the wheel makes sense if all the rules of physics (the magic) hadn't changed (Saidin/Saidar for just one) innate or wild use of the power as plot armor for another - it either IS or ISNT dangerous to practice untrained you cannot have both, Warders went beserk if aes sedai died- they didn't calmly walk to the tower for a month, prophecies being ignored or pretended to be false when it was a known power. I realise these seem like small gripes, but the lore that was developed was complex and like a house of cards, you pull away a few and the whole thing crashes down.
Of all the main cast, Egwene is the one that fell flat for me. I hope Maddie get into a groove next season as most of her performance this season was meh imo But then again, the whole season was meh at best
bruh, that is rude to tell someone they need to get into a groove next season. To tell an actor who is getting paid that they need to get better from someone who isn't an actor is just disrespectful. It's like me telling Lebron James he needs to do a better layup next season. Come on bruh!
