DAD - Desiccant Air Drying I'm an Iwata guy but I enjoyed the episode. Been using LPH400s for 18 years now. Have all the air caps and 1.3, 1.4, and 1.6 tips. I like them because of the low air pressure. Depending on what I'm doing, I'm between 14-20 psi at the gun. I'll have to look into the new Devilbiss. Caught my attention when he said he has some guys spraying at 10psi. Been wanting to upgrade but I only do 1 to 2 overalls a year now and my LPH400s still do the trick. With the transfer efficiency and cost of PPG I should upgrade. I do high end paintwork and I use Norton's blue plastic for 90% of my masking. However I make it tight, like a military bed sheet. Paint jobs come out clean in a cross draft setup.

I really enjoy their plastic. I also love the lph400. I dont know the exact transfer efficiency of that gun but im sure it’s comparable to the new Dv1. The new Dv1 is a nice gun for the price.

@@RefinishMedia I like the low air pressure because along with good prep, I feel it helps keep dirt down. Sata's sound like blow nozzles to me lol. Only downside I ever found with the low pressure was when I did collision work. Took more skill to get color into all the nooks and crannies of certian bumper covers. Where a Sata will just force the color into them with the extra 15psi.

Yeah, everyone gun has its upside and downside. I’m a Sata guy and more recently some devilbiss. The new Dv1s low pressure capabilities are impressive.

I am a boat painter. Most hulls I do we use a pressure pot due to sheer size. The paints are awlgrip single stage. Sometimes we do clear. Which pressure pot gun does devilbiss make if the tekna line is gone? I was about to buy a pro lite pot gun but if they arent making parts anymore I cant nake that purchase. Any recommendations?

It would be best to reach out to a local paint supply or rep like Mark. While I don’t know specifically related to pressure pots. But the Teknas were rebranded to GPG, so they still make the parts. Hopefully it’s the same with the pressure pots.

We need to understand that the new harbor freight black widow 2.0 is not your average cheap gun. I don’t personally own one yet but My dad has been painting in collision centers for 35 years bought one and he uses it daily for clear.. he literally owns every gun out there I think lol he has no material usage issue and we have been amazed by quality of that gun. Longevity wise we will have to see but I just wanted to point this out. Still love devilbiss and they are for sure top tier brand

Interesting I would love to see some actual measured testing on the material usage. Thanks for watching!

They may be better than SATA but they aren't as good as Iwata. Supernova's all the way particularly for clear. One thing that pisses me off with the DV-1 is that when the battery dies you have to send it into DeVilbiss to have it replaced at a cost close to $200. That's bullshit. Also the super low pressures they report is an artifact from the fact that the in-gun pressure gauge is 10 PSIG lower than a typical gauge place at the bottom of the gun. That's cheating.

Everyone likes what they like. The DV1 has a pressure difference from a traditional regular of approximately 5 psi. That being said the DV1 is still an exceptional gun at low pressure. So is the Iwata and so is the Sata comparison. I do dislike the regulator replacement very very much. But there are equal other negatives to competitive brands. It’s just personal taste. I don’t think you can argue the DV1 is not competitive different aspects. Thanks for your thoughts!

@@RefinishMedia I would consider the DV-1 to be an exceptional basecoat gun and a slow and not particularly brilliant clearcoat gun. The gun that truly impresses me is the Sagola. The 4600 Extreme, of which I have two, the normal and the Trophy Truck edition, are fast and very versatile with the different aircaps for base and clear that they have available. The new 4600 I don't own but many of my friends consider it to be the bomb.

I will agree I do not like the dv-1 clear gun very much. Because it’s an HVLP so it is very slow. But the base gun is great
