Inside two different body detox foot spa electrodes.

I've featured one of these electrodes before, but noticed that they now have them on eBay in different shapes and colours.
This is part of a beauty or health spa scam where the "patient" puts their feet in a bowl of water and a machine draws all the impurities out of their body through the soles of their feet in the form of a brown sludge.
In reality the machine is little more than a low voltage current limited supply that causes accelerated corrosion of the stainless steel electrodes in the housing. The heating effect of the current flow and the electrolytic action of splitting the water into hydrogen and oxygen results in turbulence that carries the brown metal-rich water out of the electrode.
The treatment can be set between between about 5 to 30 minutes depending on how expensive or dramatic you want the session to be.
The electrodes cost about £5 upwards and last up to 50 sessions. (10p a session!)
Their pseudoscience blurb goes along the lines of:-
"Through ion permeation, it can enhance cell activity, improve metabolism, actively promote the growth of yeast in the body, promote liver detoxification, reduce edema, rheumatism and arthritis."
It also gives you some fake beauty blurb to tell your patients:-
"What you can expect to feel when use it: feel lighter and sense of well being.
People with pain, edema, gout, swollen or deteriorating joints report considerable relief.
Skin rashes and pimples, dark circles around eyes, swollen joints are substantially reduced and in some cases even eliminated."
Now for a positive slant on these scams.
If the placebo effect makes people feel better then I'm OK with that as long as the cost is realistic for a simple therapy treatment and it is not implied as a cure for terrible diseases.
I'm also open to the possibility that the low exposure (microdosing) to fairly toxic metals like chromium and nickel in an active water dispersion could have therapeutic effects by permeating into the feet.
In the meantime. If you want to try the treatment for yourself, just buy an electrode and hook it up to some AA cells and drop it in a footbath filled with hot water and a dash of salt.
Here's a search link for the electrodes:-
www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from...
Here's the original video:-
• Ionic foot detox elect...
And here's a research article that analysed the chemical content of the water:-
www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/arti...
If you enjoy these videos you can help support the channel with a dollar for coffee, cookies and random gadgets for disassembly at:-
www.bigclive.com/coffee.htm
This also keeps the channel independent of RU-vid's advertising algorithms allowing it to be a bit more dangerous and naughty.

Im still not Convinced that it’s a total waste. Do the same with epson sults. Or any other sult brought from a health food store. The method is you don’t dry your feet with a towel. You allow your feet to dry naturally so the salt stays on the outside of your feet and draws out the toxins on a very much seemingly smaller scale but still yet very effective if done regularly. Another application is making oil and concentrate trace element for your plants flowers and vegetables. I seek to have your reply on this as it’s factual and this little bit of science is true. fruitherbnut@icloud.com

When I was in school, I returned home one afternoon to find a salesman of such a device trying to convince my parents its necessity regarding our tap water. He, of course, attempted to shmooze up to me and asked what I was studying. Upon being told that I was studying environmental engineering, I noticed a slight look of alarm in his eyes and less than 5 minutes later, he had wrapped up his spiel, promising to get back to us. Almost 20 years on, they're still waiting for him to get back in touch! When I first moved back to my old home town in the late 90's I was quickly identified as "the computer guy" because I fixed a few old machines for my mother's friends. Word quickly got around, there was no computer repair or sales service in town, so I was kept quite busy. One fellow who turned out to be a distant relative (small town you know everyone is related one way or another) began buying up all my old obsolete machines, this was in around 06 or 07, we had a computer shop in town by then and I had stopped servicing except those who insisted that I see their machines. Anyhow this guy was buying up all my old machines and running puppy Linux on them, and offering them in his wife's waiting room, you see she had a health spa sort of thing out in the country on a corner of their family farm, run out of an old one room school house that had been unused for 50 years or so. Part of her spa was this huge machine that did just that, she got over $100.00 per session. It broke down one day and against the rules of the outfit that supplied her with it, she had her hubby bring it in for me to look at. Well he brought in the "head" of the machine which was a case about the size of a desktop computer. It had all sorts of plugs and cables, but only a few went anywhere, inside I found a ac/dc power converter, with a 12 volt and a 3.3 volt output. There was a small board with a PIC chip on it I believe it was 8 pin, and a place to plug in these very large plugs that looked as though they came from the Switchboard I used back in 1970 Vietnam. There was a blown diode on the power supply, it was obvious as it had actually broken when it blew, I have no idea how it blew, but I replaced it with a 1000 volt diode and gave it back, they were so happy to get back in business, he said they were loosing a LOT of money while the machine was down, the company that furnished it charged them a 500 buck a year service contract plus a minimum of 100 dollars to open the case if you sent it back in for repair, the contract prohibited them from breaking the tiny seal on the case. Ah well it was an easy fix, he dropped me a hundred bucks and a bottle of Scotch for my trouble. I heard they went out of business after the Sheriff investigated their "spa" on the complaints of some old lady's son, she went broke visiting them nearly daily because it made her feel so good.

One of my favourite sayings - "Nothing succeeds like excess" (5:37). Electrolysing salt water produces nice amounts of hydrogen and chlorine leaving sodium hydroxide (caustic soda) in the water. The chlorine will give a reassuring antiseptic smell.

Hey, Clive Thanks for all the awesome content. I have a curious question, Why do they say the UV lamps " run out of UV"? Do they actually stop producing UV at the right intensity or is it just a means to make you buy more UV lamps?

The blue power plug looks like the ones Braun use to power their shavers.

Or a cheater cord from an old tube TV.

Couldn't agree more on the Braun shaver plug. However the cheater cord for the old TVs. Is that cord is usually a rectangular plug with two round holes not figure eight or close to it or the like the one on the Braun shavers. There are other similar shiver plugs as well. Although I remember seeing years and years ago on Vintage equipment. Is that had pins that would accept a cheater cord for the TV. This was used for advancing projectors slide think Kodak Carousel. Back when you actually did home multimedia in quotes. The idea was that you use cheater cords and such for your your thinking of your devices. One device would be placed on a reel-to-reel recorder. In a strip of conductive spice material. Would be on the tape where you wanted to advance your slides. Also with the movie projector sometimes you would do that as well if you were using it slides with it. But back to the scary part. Zoe's unit still use the cheer cords for TVs. Which as you know how to male plug on them. Now I'm imagining you know you got several different plugs that might look very similar right. Goalie all your sink connections would be connected together in adapter or extension cords just two parallel them. But I wouldn't clogged the other end into AC power would you. For various reasons and obvious reasons. A few nice pops and bangs and destroyed equipment. And a lot of those devices for your sake had live terminals or contacts accessible. Also back to the cheater chords. Anyone notice the old Appliance cords like on a mixer or other small heating devices and other things? If you're familiar with a cord it might... look familiar? Right! Also I did in the old days, crossed connectors that fit those. Although I never use them for ac voltage for obvious reasons. I actually use them in Reverse for low-voltage. The male end was used for power out. There was protection as well as warnings about proper use of course. Not the only thing I've repurposed over the years.

Would be nice to see those devices that use these "detox" electrodes. Especially ones with different modes, user selectable output waveforms and such. It wouldn't be very surprising if it used the same output for every mode.

I can't imagine how many people have had metal poisoning from small cuts or abrasions in their feet after receiving a 30 min 'treatment' like this. I think this is absolutely dangerous as a scam, and we should all be warning our family against it.
