I was a radar sergeant in the late 90s early 2000s when we were the first battalion in Germany to receive this wonderful weapon as the successor to the M109 A3GA1. Our task was to put the PZH2000 through its paces and get the most out of it. Apparently our hard work back then is paying off today. Seeing the PZH2000 successfully in use today fills me with pride! @adamabele785
@adamabele785 Год назад
@@jansix4287 There is a certain time window in which you can fire and leave safely. This time is dependent on how far away the artillery of the other side is. The farer it is, the more time you have to fire shells. A high fire rate also helps to fire more shells in the short time you have. Attacking at very long range (15+ km) gives the other side the opportunity to determine the trajectory, determine the coordinates where it will hit and allows giving a warning of incoming artillery shells several minutes ahead. Shots over a long range require more propellant and increase the pressure and the stress on the cannon, resulting in more wear and tear, shorter maintenance intervals and less accuracy. In the ideal situation the artillery is 4-5 km behind the front line, behind a hill. On a hill is a dug in and hopefully well hidden observer. This gives something like two minutes to fire and escape and allows for small amounts of propellant, a flatter and lower trajectory and higher accuracy. The M109 for example is able to escape as well, but can fire less shells in the time.

It has been interesting to see the perspectives of both sides during this war. Whether it be propaganda or history, so many Russians seem filled with hate, and little afterthought for the damage they’re causing. And then like this guy, serving was just an unexpected duty, he treats every day as just a day at work, and his only emotions are the relief of surviving, and a hope to be good at his craft and do his part. Great interview.

Thus, the Ukrainans used trained people that already has the skills to operate sophisticated skill. Note he is 31 years old. I believe that is the average age for an armored vehicle commander. Plus he seemed to have the right level of mature to handle the job.

It’s true. Unfortunately, people these days believe anything on TV, and even if they know they aren’t within their physical borders defending their definable country, they can be easily persuaded to think they’re still somehow “saving their country” in an existential, or “trust me bro” way. Leads to a few problems.
@ironknee6879
@ironknee6879 Год назад
@@glennv3176 They aren’t, though. They’re risking their lives, but that’s where it ends. There are more treaties, pacts, memorandums, laws, and survey history than I’m going to get into, that will not allow that Eastern border to be moved by force. It’s sad for the Russians fighting, but they have and are dying for nothing, because the international community has spoken, and when Russia’s tired of fighting or runs out of supplies and/or money, they’re going back to Russia with only their lives and memories.

As I live in a very rural area in Canada's prairies, I'm surrounded by people of Ukrainian descent. When I see video of Ukraine, it looks just like here. Let me tell you something about Ukrainian boys: they're born with a welding stinger in one hand and a box-end wrench in the other. They're matter-of-fact, hard-working, can fix anything, and are the greatest people on Earth. It must never be forgotten that they have the moral high ground in this conflict, that they've been in this position before, and far worse, historically-speaking. They deserve our friendship and our admiration. Slava Ukraine!

As the reporter says they will be extra important for the offensive. Since they are highly mobile they can stay with the advancing units and provide arty support to them. For defense guns like the M777 are ideal since they don't move as well. Even on defense though the PzH2000 is better since it can shoot and scoot (move before the enemy retaliates). A beautiful beast she is the PzH2000...

@compuholic82
@compuholic82 Год назад
That is the best case with special rocket assisted shells like Vulcano. With standard artillery shells the PzH2000 can achieve "only" around 30km (~19 miles) and with extended range shells, it can achieve around 40km (~25 miles). If you want to use special firing modes (like MRSI) the maximum range is reduced.

@@thepretorian5292 You don't know that at all. Since the end of the Second World War, Germany has been producing far fewer weapons and missiles... France is one of the world's leading missile manufacturers, with the MBDA company, and the Ceasar cannon has proved itself in combat in various African countries, Sirye and Afghanistan. This was not the case with the German artillery cannon, which has only just begun to prove itself in combat in Ukraine! @189951 again and again, MBDA is not a French company, it's a European Company with French shares in it, like Airbus, Ariane, ESA, ... .Why do the French regularly tend to hijack the joint European projects? And Caesar is a different weapon to PZH 2000, like a little brother, rather for commando tasks, not so much for territorial warefare. You can decide, which one you would prefer during counter fire or drone attacks. I would certainly take the PZH 2000. And the rest you are mentioning is good stuff, but certainly not superior.

This PzH2000 commander might be wearing German camo and was trained on the system in Germany, but let's not forget: These speedy training courses only worked in mere weeks because the Ukrainian trainees were already trained artillerymen. They brought all the basic skills already and especially the necessary attitude and motivation, and that's why the German army trainers were able to get them up to speed in such a short time. A trainer-trainee relationship is always mutual. One side can't teach without the other side listening closely. It's safe to say that in this case, both sides did a great job.
