Lindsey 'to the last Ukrainian' Graham recently said that Ukraine must win the war so that they can trade $12 Trillion of minerals with the US. Where did the 'democracy must win' bit go, especially after Zelensky banned 11 political parties ?

I observe here in France that many people believe that helping Ukraine will lead to escalation. This is the opposite of what experts in France and other western countries are saying. A lot of people here couldn't care less about what becomes of Ukraine, they see it as far away country that doesn't concern them. And they don't believe Ukraine can win. There seem to be problems of communication of information.

I believe Ukraine and the west can win, I am not some right-wing Putin idiot but do tell what has not escalated in the last two years? Bradley's never go, they are there, long range missiles never go to Ukraine, they are there, F-16s never go to Ukraine, Ukrainians are training and about to deploy F-16, never can Ukraine hit sovereign Russia w8th westen munitions, Ukraine now hits sovereign Russian with western munitions. That people don't see the escalation is absolutely as crazy as the other side.

Personal opinion: besides outside agitation, I think the fuel for opposition to support for Ukraine is the fact that a lot of Western countries are ignoring the needs of their own citizens. They like to pretend we're happy with the status quo as the ground slips out from under our feet. I do think we can afford to help Ukraine AND help our own citizens but our elected officials are NOT listening to us! Their priorities are set by corporations, and enhancing their personal wealth.

The West has had a policy of restricting the use of Western weapons on Russian soil. As time has gone by, the total number and depth of these restrictions has been progressively loosened. This loosening, and the absence of an actual Russian nuclear response, has brought upon us a flurry of opinions saying that the restrictions were absolutely wrong and unnecessary, caused great harm to Ukraine, and should never have been exercised at all. It is possible to understand these restrictions and their progressive loosening as being completely correct, even though it is obviously frustrating and damaging to Ukraine and its supporters. In a game, if there is an outcome that is infinitely bad, then it is appropriate - nay, necessary - for a participant to take infinitely extreme measures to prevent that outcome. A general nuclear war that destroys humanity is, for our purposes here, infinitely bad, and therefore, the West is justified in taking very extreme measures to avoid it. If Putin were 100% predictable, and 100% rational (meaning there would be no possibility of him deciding that a general nuclear exchange would be worthwhile) then there would have been no justification for the restrictions on weapons use. But we don't know exactly how predictable and rational he is, and therefore we cannot with absolute certainty predict that some use of Western weaponry would not bring on the total disaster. Even if our estimate is that the probability of him being sufficiently irrational or predictable (which are, after all, the same thing) were to be 95%, the West would still be in a position of uncertainty with regard to the stimulation of a nuclear holocaust by some use of Western weapons. Therefore it is entirely reasonable - and I would argue, correct and necessary - the poke Putin, first, very very weakly, and see what is his response. Then, if his response is that which has actually happened, namely, he sets "red lines" and then ignores them, he can be poked a bit more strongly. To progress immediately, at any stage of this process, to a complete cancellation of all restrictions, would have a non-zero probability of the infinitely bad outcome. Thus the only rational policy for the West, given that the West is highly motivated to allow Ukraine the freedom to attack its attackers unreservedly, is the progressive increase of challenges to Putin's red lines. This is exactly what we see, and this explanation predicts exactly this pattern of behavior by a rational West. Of course, any poking of Putin is dangerous, given his nuclear threats. And thus no poking is completely justified. But we are highly enough motivated to prevent Putin's overall success that we are willing to take small chances. And again, as each small increase in the chances we take fails to engender a nuclear response, it is sensible to increase the risks we take. The time constants in this process are non-zero, and so every increase in poke-strength cannot be evaluated immediately. Sufficient time must be allowed to elapse for Putin's response to become clear. Therefore every increase in poke-strength takes some time, causing delays. If the functions involved were simple and linear, then a rational West could systematically increase the poking similar amounts with every passage of this delay period. But we cannot know the shape of the functions. Therefore it is correct for a rational West to begin the process of progressive loosening very slowly, and to increase the rate of increase in poke-strength as time passes. (Yes, there are first & second derivatives here, but that isn't especially helpful in the presentation.) This analysis also succeeds in predicting the exact pattern of behavior by the US and, zum beispiel, Germany, that we have observed. The conclusion is that the behavior of the US that we have observed is, no matter how painful, rational and optimal. The pain caused by the restrictions pales in comparison to the infinitely bad outcome, and thus a rational West must accept it.

With respect to deep strikes, Russian missile and aviation strikes inside Ukraine continue to be more numerous and deliver heavier ordnance than those made by Ukraine against Russia. As opposed to Russia, there are numerous Ukrainian areas without power and others with rolling blackouts. Ukrainian energy officials state that their electricity production has declined from 55Gw to “less than 20Gw” and call the situation a “catastrophic shortage”. Explosions and the sound of diesel generators have become the soundtrack of Ukraine. But the theme of the podcast today is that Ukraine may have damaged a plane. Nice. Today (Wed June 12), there is video that the Russians knocked out an S300 system that enabled them to then attack Myrhorod airbase in Ukraine and strike at least one aircraft. If that’s verified, will it be a large part of your podcast tomorrow considering that one aircraft has ~ 10x the impact on Ukraine due to the relative size of their air forces? This often isn’t reporting, it’s cheerleading.

For me, #Ukraine 🇺🇦 has already won this war, when Russia, the second biggest army in the world could not take Kyiv in 3 weeks. The rest is just a matter of time... Similar to when the Kremlin occupied Poland 🇵🇱 for fifty years, until eventually the spirit of the people rose up with the Solidarity movement. The people are the REAL power and if some try to oppress that, then Karma awaits them. ⬇️ Communism was a great idea, but doomed to fail, as the political elites and oligarchs were not subject to the same criteria, which was ruthlessly imposed on the Soviet population. So then, the breakup of the Soviet Union was inevitable and it started with key factors like the Soviet economy, Chernobyl, the rise of Solidarity movement, etc. ⬇️ Unfortunately, Russia may have taken an unforseen path that could end up with the breakup of the Russian Federation, into smaller, independent states like Chechnya, Dagestan, Georgia, Tatastan etc. Then China will also want to return Manchuria (Vladivostok), back under their state rule, with all it's resources and historical ties.

To assure a free and independent Ukraine going forward and spare them a demographic apocalapyse, NATO must grant them immediate membership. Couple that with an immediate cease fire. Putin is presented with both a fait accompli (similar to Finland having joined) and the face saving off ramp to end the war. All other issues (Ukrainian occupied territory, sanctions, reparations, etc.) can either be negotiated or not (i.e. Korean War Armistice 1953).
@AlexTrevelyan
@AlexTrevelyan 3 месяца назад
Granting Ukraine immediate membership in anything isn't going to save them. Comments like the above seem to think terms can be dictated to the people winning the war. Putin isn't being presented a fait accompli, he's presented the West with one! Why would the Russians agree to a ceasefire when the Ukrainian government is on the verge of collapse and the Ukrainian army is disintegrating?

Dom..starymaiosky that village that was widely celebrated as strategic and very important to the Western counter offensive of June 2023 has now fallen into the hands of the Russians...this must be very painful to members of this podcast...Rabotino fell to the Russians a few weeks back and that is never reported on by this group. By the way Dom tell us about the progress of Kyrnky escapades...are the Ukrainians still there? Did they cross over to Crimea?
