This current crop of talented Royal Ballet dancers all have absolutely perfect technique. Clean as a whistle, refined, textbook technique 😍.

Have you all considered putting ROH ballet performances on a paid streaming service easily accessible for audiences outside the UK? I’d pay to have full performances old and new on a streaming service and I bet I’m not the only fan who would.

The incredible Christopher Carr. The depth and complexity of his knowledge of the steps is quite frightening, combined with the clarity of his eye. He has given his life to the Royal Ballet. He is a living legend .

So glad I watched this. Christopher Carr is a brilliant custodian of Ashton - and lovely to hear how much these great dancers appreciate his insights.

I’ve seen Month since it was choreographed in the 1970s. Amazing, Month is my very favourite ballet. I’m waiting for it to be on DVD.

Mein Kompliment an alle Mitwirkenden!

Thank you so much for sharing. Ashton's "Scènes" is one the 20th century classics and a personal favourite - what a treat to see it in rehearsal! Though, not to sound like Billy Rose, but I think I prefer the piano reduction.

Christopher Carr ... is a force to be reckoned with. He may be seen as a very demanding teacher, but he's genuinely a very kind person. And any dancer will tell you he is a no-nonsense Repertoar of the highest standard. The Royal Ballet dancers are a breed unto themselves. Just like one can pick out a Vaganova-trained dancer, one can pick out an English Royal Ballet-trained dancer.

😢Wow. Never seen this ballet. All I can say is I’m amazed at first Yasmin, then Christopher and Vanessa in their end talk, talking of the ‘musicality’ of the ballet. How ON EARTH they danced to it, I’ll never know, because I don’t hear music. I hear ghastly, appalling dissonance. Apart from the Adagio in ‘Concerto’, I’ve never heard a single note of ‘music’ by Stravinsky. Hope I’ve matched ballet to correct composer! I utterly loathe his dissonance. Like Prokofiev’s The Firebird, which I have seen, plus Margot doing it (on film). How the dancers count as they discussed at the end talk, I just have no idea. Well done them, that’s all I can say! The dancing was quite amazing, how Ashton choreographed it is also amazing - from his bath too! But Yasmine….SO appallingly thin she looks unhealthy - does she eat 2 lettuce leaves a day, one for each incredibly too-thin thigh??? And is Teo Debruiel the son of Alan Debruiel?? (can’t even now spell it!). I saw him dance so often and adored him. Imagine from father to son, if that is so. Brilliant!

I “hear” you on the Stravinsky dissonance. I am trying to get better acquainted with his music, but I swear at times it sounds more like an angry, wet Tom cat yowling than music. It must be an acquired taste

I thought the same until I saw his live and played by a full orchestra and it was like a different piece of music. It sounded great and really beautiful in parts. Don’t really think we should be commenting on dancers’ appearances, though. I know that in the Royal Ballet they are really looked after and have expert nutritional advice. They eat sensibly but they work so hard they work it off! They wouldn’t have the stamina to do what they do if they starved themselves.

Just never figure out what the powers that be at The Royal Ballet sees in Vadim Muntagirov. Every role is done in a one-size-fits-all approach. Every dance is glossed over the surface. Technically brilliant, yep. Dramatically potent? Na.

What have you seen Muntagirov perform in?
@mannail888

I wished I could tell you but I simply couldn't. Why? None other than the reason that every role by Muntagirov is forgettable, every dance bland.
@ntricker

In your opinion. Having seen him perform on numerous occasions and seen the audience reaction, I can’t agree. He reduced people to tears in Month in the Country recently. And you still haven’t said what performances you have actually seen him in.

I love the Royal Ballet but these companies ar doing too much modern stuff thats not even ballet anymore. I hope the art is never lost. Ballet is all about beauty and lines, and the human body. The contraction and release makeup of modern ballet is just not pretty, its not pleasant to me. For that I would choose Martha Graham Dance company . I think this is why these dancers are beeing hurt so frequently, its more about acrobatics and tricks. Not ballet at all. I wonder what Petipa would think.
