Might actually be getting a little creepy how many times I’ve watched this... I love the piano rehearsal more than the fully orchestrated, costumed performance. And of course, Marianela. Watching this is like hitting “reset” on my mind. This is why the arts are necessary.
Agreed! This video is pacifying my soul- especially now. It makes losing my beloved to the (in my opinion, naturally) “the wrong girl (Odile).” & For all the wrong reasons. & we’ve together seen the production more than once. He Learned nothing. He Straight Giselle’d me. Or treated me as Nikiya….only I’m the one that cared for his bills & supported his dreams and am blessed enough to come from money not “her”. 🥺😔 I’m having the hardest day yet: I see him still but he lies to my face. Im hurting so badly. Thank you for any kindness in mere thoughts: I need prayer. & Bless you all, Liam, forever love you: Nela you’re incredible, and “Vadream” 😉 you’re a prodigy and ever blossoming talent. Sincerely, thank you for this video. It keeps me going on darkest days filled with darkest thoughts. Thank you for anyone who happened to read this message: I love you all too. The arts are so important, @Lisa R is so right. Necessary. 🙏❤️
I was obsessed and consistently rewatched the videos of Liam coaching, because he was such a generous and insightful teacher, plus getting to see him do perfectly as he wanted in example… breathtaking. And then all the videos were gone. Thank you for sharing and giving us this tiny bit of Liam back in this way.
I wish they upload the ones coaching Frankenstein and the creature It made me cry every time I would really love to see them again he was a great choreographer
I've been looking for Sweet Violets and especially the Frankenstein one EVERYWHERE. I would always put them on in the background while I worked and found a lot of inspiration through it. It's such a shame because the coaching was incredible, and for the latter it has the insights into the art direction/music and was I think the only video where we get to see Ryoichi Hirano as the creature. Seriously, if anyone sees this and has it please upload it!
I have watched this rehearsal so many times and on each occasion I am in tears. The heartbreaking story comes to life under the expert guidance of Liam Scarlett who adds the tiniest of details to the already beautiful choreography; Nela and Vadim, who are such extraordinarily gifted dancers, share the perfect partnership -- and long may it continue! However, the main cause of my sadness is the knowledge that we have lost the finest choreographer of our time. I cannot begin to contemplate how the future of the classical ballets would have been enhanced, let alone the new ballets that will forever remain undanced, if only Liam Scarlett had survived. His genius will never be forgotten as long as companies around the world continue to perform his many brilliant works.
Yes, Liam was articulate, clever, funny, creative, inventive, gifted, resourceful, etc. I knew a world renowned male dancer, number one in the world, in fact, who dazzled audiences for years, on every continent. He also had the wildest of wild private lives, with astonishing capacities, yet he never crossed a certain line into criminality. Scarlett should have sought help for his unhinged ways. The problem with turning to sex to heal one's inner torment will never work. It only gets one still more entangled in the long run.
the trust that is needed for partner work is amazing. Marianela and Vadim demonstrate how trust in partnership work is essential. such amazing dancers. Such passion
I watched this today with a sad heart. The tragic and untimely death of Liam Scarlet His legacy will live on through his choreography. His Swan Lake is absolutely stunning. May he RIP💔
Liam Scarlett had such a powerful, commanding presence on stage. Performers like this tread a thin line more often than not, between light and darkness. This is what makes them so unforgettable. And this is why works of art are often referred to as artistic triumphs.
Looking for the words and you have them. They are both magnificent, and as Vadim says, to have explanation accompany the music to help interpretation takes them to another level.
Oh my thank you thank you thank you!!!!!!!! This is where I fell in love with Nela. I’ve been looking for every bit of recording available and this is the first full one
Thank you so much!! Do you maybeee happen to have the part with John Macfarlane about the production design or the Frankenstein rehearsals?? It's so sad that they took it down :((
SO MAD that he is gone. Don’t know the whole story, but-and I say this as a rape survivor-we MUST find a way not to throw the baby out with the bath water. There is a difference between a Harvey Weinstein and a Liam Scarlett-to be crass: The ones who SHOULD off themselves never do. Liam Scarlett was, for want of a better word, redeemable. Such a young talent. How are his alleged victims served by his suicide? We need a better way to do this.
@@therealmeahmi Liam Scarlett was a choreographer (the same one in this video). He was accused of sexual misconduct with company members. Although the allegations were unfounded, he either left the company or was dismissed. He was then unofficially blacklisted from ballet companies internationally. The day after another ballet company pulled his ballet, Frankenstein, from production, he hanged himself. It's horrible.
Thank you so much for sharing this. Revealing the brilliant creative mind of Liam Scarlett. Do you have the other part of this insight/rehearsal ? … it’s an interview with Liam and production designer John MacFarlane, and then Liam rehearsing the Spanish dance. It really reveals his brilliance as a dancer too. Sigh RIP.
Although I love the emotion, there are worse things than being a swan. They mate for life, are very beautiful and belong to the Queen, just imagine if the curse was being turned into a cockroach... (these thoughts are maybe because I saw this absolutely stunning family of swans today, six cygnets, all a proud as could be. They probably look at us and think, "ewww ugly, no lovely white feathers".)
Can anyone tell me if you can find this piece in any Swan Lake recordings? I can't find one, although you can find them on RU-vid or video recordings of stage productions. Thanks!
Who is the person who keeps writing numbers and dates and "class" on this thread? Talk about inappropriate! Is it some kind of code? I loved this video. As for allegations made against Mr. Scalett, I think many, many people have donned victim garb to clothe their own inadequacies. No one should assume a person is guilty of something until it is proven. There's a good deal of jealousy surrounding people with real talent. Jealous people do dastardly things at times.
