How to install electric wiring into the walls of a shipping container.
In this video we will show you how to wire a shipping container with Romex® type wire. Wiring is really pretty simple to install. Individual runs can be pushed or slid through the horizontal or vertical chase ways up to 20′ from box to box.
Here is a link to a hot knife supplier: www.warehouseb...
1. How to install electric wiring into the walls of a shipping container.
2. Hot knifes are not essential for installation. For more information about specialty tools
3. The stick was used to help set a consistent height for the electrical boxes.
4. The orange tape was used to illustrate the electrical wiring runs and their location in our panels.
5. Preplan all of your electrical cuts. Keep the hot knife...HOT!
6. Save the cutout pieces of foam for use later to replace the electrical box cuts.
7. To keep the wire flat and kink free. We used a turnstile to unreel the 12 gauge Romex wire.
8. We ran the 12-gauge Romex wire behind the PVC water pipe.
9. Keep the glue away from the electrical raceways.
InSoFast panels are designed for use with standard Romex® (NM sheathed wire), MC Flex, AC Flex, or rigid metal conduit.
InSoFast wiring chases are located 1¼” below the surface of the panel (National Electric Code - NEC Article 330-4d and 300-41a) and are designed to keep the wiring safely within the panel without the use of protective metal plates.
Electrical Raceways spacing varies according to the panels you are using. The CX 44 panels typically used along the sidewalls, the raceways are spaced horizontally every 24” o.c. and vertically every 22” o.c. as marked by a reference line on the face of the panels.
The chases for the end walls and the ceilings that use either the UX 2.0 or the EXi 2.5 panels their chases are spaced 16″ and 24″ on center. This offers the same protection as a wire running through the center of a 2×4 wall.
In this video we will show you how to clear obstructions from blocking the wiring chases. And the commonsense tricks like the stick used to help set a consistent height for the electrical boxes.
If you have any difficulties sliding the wire through the chase way, bend over the end of the Romex® wiring. The use of a fish tape is generally not required unless pulling multiple wires at one time. If you wish to eliminate the fish tape, slide one wire through and then tape the multiple wires on. Metal flex conduit, MC Flex, or AC Flex installs in the same manner as Romex wiring.
All of our race ways will meet the E3802.1 for the 1 1/4" code for depth, installation and support requirements
Wiring methods shall be installed and supported in accordance with all local code requirements.
Hot knifes are not essential for installation. For more information about specialty tools, contact us at InSoFast.

Seriously considering InSoFast for my 5 container home build. One question, how would you install a ceiling fan box/bracket? That may make a good video :)

Great Idea! We currently have nothing on that! Give us a call, 888-501-7899. Maybe we have a project to brainstorm here!

Really like this stuff... Certainly, goin to look into this.. Only questions are the ratings of fireproof levels...
@insofast-continuous-insulation
Fire safety is always a concern in construction that is why our company has a fire safety code report available online: www.insofast.com/media/InSoFast-IntertekCCRR-1029.pdf. Our panel does not off gas and the adhesive we recommend is green guard certified (low VOCs). If you have any further questions feel free to call InSoFast at 888-501-7899

How do you secure electrical boxes to the foam and meet building code?
@insofast-continuous-insulation
@insofast-continuous-insulation 3 года назад
There are several methods from adhesives to preplanning and welding in the boxes or attachment strips. Contact your local building code official and ask them what they will accept. Unlike a traditional framed wall system the electrical box a solid wall is restrained from moving.

Do you have a similar product to use on the exterior of a container so as to keep the thermal mass of the steel INSIDE the thermal barrier?

And if it were UV resistant and reflective foil on the outside that would be extra beneficial. Of course being able to sheath that would be important too.

I'm confused as to how the raceways are placed in the panels, can you explain further please? Thank you

May be this will help there is a section about the raceways in the CX44 Panel description. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GyEvEH3ADw8.html Also our general webpage about electric my help www.insofast.com/explore/commercial-interior-walls-masonry-concrete-electrical-installation.html

The tunnels are pre-made in the panels or it should be done before placing on walls?

Yes the tunnels or electric raceways are pre-made in the panels.

how do you attach the electrical box if it's not located next to a stud?

Adhesively, or pre-plan and attach to the wall of the container by welding, back fastening.

Did you have to use heat resilient paint on the shipping container? I heard they do in hot climates.
@insofast-continuous-insulation
The high constant operating temperature of our insulation is 165 degrees F. Dark color containers in the desert could use a good reflecting paint.

Need a second raceway for low voltage cable such as Ethernet or Phone Service.
@insofast-continuous-insulation
In container side walls the electrical raceways are 22" on center going vertically and 24" on center going vertically. www.insofast.com/explore/shipping-container-installing-electric.html

So what about moisture. Hot air strikes cold exterior creates mold.. No exit for interior moisture. You are blocking air movement a beaded at second row. Have 100" rain and 80% humidity climate. It delaminated t1-11 stored with bisque decades ago....
@insofast-continuous-insulation
Proper HVAC (heating ventilation air conditioning) must still be maintained. But no water will not get behind solid foam if install properly. Steel and EPS foam are not a food source for mold to grow on.....see above about proper, "HVAC (heating ventilation air conditioning) must still be maintained."

To pass any sort of code, you would need to put nail plates over all wires. You don't have the proper depth of walls, to run Romex, you need to be running MC cable, or conduit to pass inspection. This job is not good

Actually the panels raceways according to code are at the proper depth 1 ¼”. "Where installed in grooves, to be covered by wallboard, siding, paneling, carpeting, or similar finish, wiring methods shall be protected by 0.0625-inch-thick steel plate, sleeve, or equivalent, a listed steel plate or by not less than 1 ¼” -inch free space for the full length of the groove in which the cable or raceway is installed." (InSoFast panels are engineered with a groove that forms a raceway with the required protection or “free space” of 1 ¼” along the full length of the groove)

Did you calculate the thickness of the wire? And it being wavy, not perfectly flat. Your boxes don't seem to be mounted to anything either. Minimum code is the worst job allowable by law. Anything less you could go to jail. You are pushing your luck. I do not believe this would pass inspection in my area, the authority having jurisdiction has the right to require more stringent rules than minimum code, you might not pass. If anybody tries this, I would check with your local authority having jurisdiction first. (Inspector)
