electrician here. If youre not gonna pre twist your wires before puttin wirenuts on, turn the wirenuts until the wires start to twist outside of it, if there's one half assed connction it could get really hot and potentiely start a fire :P

Also, why by tlg He used nuts for stranded wires? For me they are recipe for future disaster. I'll use lever-Wagos if available or ferrules + terminal blocks

I only know micro electronics so correct me if im wrong, but using metal pipes for the wires, is there a posibility that all that metal could be dangerous if theres ever a short to ground? I live in Denmark and here we only use plastic sleeves for routing cables so im just curious

First of all, fantastic work, period. As a commercial/industrial electrician, I do have some advice for the future to make your life a little easier. I get that I'm just some guy on the internet, and you aren't asking for advice, but I just appreciate the thought you put into this project, and sincerely wanted to give you some pointers in electrical work for the future. Home Depot sells ground tails for grounding our boxes, so you don't have to make them if you don't want to. At 3:34, you have some open air wires. While there's nothing unsafe in and of itself, they are obviously venerable to damage. MC Cable, SO, or even a piece of regular cord can mitigate that for in-home use. It's just a little better than straight THHN, which isn't really to code (not that it matters). At 5:08, when you put the light switch in, for metal boxes those little ears are made to be removed so there are no sharp edges outside the boxes, and the cover sits a little more flush. Those tabs are just for putting a light switch in drywall to hold it flush with the wall. For your outlets, don't be afraid to put some wire in there! About 6in. is perfect, because it's easy to remove them and change something out or fix later. The wire just stuffs right in the box. It's also very nice to wrap your screws in electrical tape, so the next guy has less chance of being shocked when you take the cover off. What I really love is how you snaked those wires behind the pipe using one holes to hold it in place, very nice. Also, that double 90 was kickass. You wouldn't believe how many people at my job don't use them at all, and they look fantastic! Finally, good job double-checking your wiring with a tester, it's super important to make sure you did it correct. I couldn't have done this project better if I tried, really good work.

What you missed: can't put 120v in conduit with lv led cable. Emt strapping with 3' of termination required. Switch covers are single gang stainless steel, which are very sharp and not listed to be on a switch on a handy box. Use handy box switch covers.
@jeremiahrussell4913

All i can think of is how awesome it would be if you hide the cables inside the container texture before applying the insulation. Invisible cables. On the other hand if you ever need to maintain something it´s not easy to access.

Fun to watch and appreciating the care going into the project! Couple of thoughts from a DIY guy: putting conduit in behind the drywall might have been better. Not sure if you decided the ease of doing it after was greater than the aesthetic nor not but it was in my mind. I'd be curious to find out as I would like to do a similar project sometime in the future. Also saw you upgraded the drill. Run your clutch down a minimum setting when doing metal-metal screw work and you can use it easily in the place of your screwdriver.
@Daeyel
@Daeyel Год назад
Electrical conduit on the outside makes it easy to add more outlets w/o having to tear the wall apart. Personally, I'd have run the conduit along the baseboard, but this adds a professional industrial look for a workman which is perfect for what he is going to use it for. Plumbing (if added) can also be run through conduit to make access easier.

@arguedscarab7985
@arguedscarab7985 7 месяцев назад
That electric wires are insulated with the plastic that goes around the copper. Also the earth isn't going to send electric current just because it wants to. Also wires have a ground so it doesn't really matter.
