It was par excellence. He was just flowing with knowledge and experience and his sharings of real experiences.
Being a hardcore ad man, his sharings were very very helpful for all the entrepreneurs who had gathered.
The points to ponder about and learn from are.
1. Agencies or companies choose stars bcos they don't have a good idea. A star kills the idea and in the bargain the audience remembers the star in the ad but not the product and the company which owns the product.
2. One should be very careful when one chooses a brand ambassador for the product. For eg. Shahrukh as a brand ambassador of santro is never a right picture. A brand ambassador should live the product and one can't imagine Shahrukh using a santro in his daily life.
3. He also expressed that indian brands are more truthful in their ad campaigns as compared to foreign brands who lie through thier teeth and having done loads of work for some global multinationals, he also shared his experiences with names. U can watch it on www.inspiringconversations.in once it's uploaded.
4. We all know that campaign and advertising should always be aimed at the target audience. But bharat explained how it needs to be executed in practicality and how to understand the psyche of the audience and fine tune the campaign accordingly. One cannot risk to go ahead by assuming the same yardstick to the entire population of india. One needs to RECOGNISE many aspects of the people , their culture, thier surroundings, thier habits, thier thought processes, thier opinions etc. He also explained this with a few examples.
5. He also explained the importance of the online and social media. He said this media has brought in a lot of accountability and responsibility onto the shoulders of the product or service owners. More precision has come into play. Online and social media is a interactive medium unlike any other medium and hence companies have become very careful in what they promise and what they deliver. Bcos of online media, advertising is not only restricted to information but it has become infotainment.
6. Bharat has been from a vernacular medium school. He is a fit example of how a weakness can be converted into a fantastic oppurtuinity. Mixing English with Hindi was his weakness as he was not having the skill of fluency on the English language. And his weakness became his strength when people adopted the hinglish language and today he is credited of being the father of the hinglish language.
7. As an entrepreneur, he said he has just been good at what he can do. And that's creativity. For everything else he partnered with the right people whose strengths were his weaknesses. He said every entrepreneur should identify his own strengths and weaknesses. And then convert his weaknesses to strengths by parthering with the right people.
8. Being truthful pays dividends. When his organisation wanted to partner with a publicis, today's largest advertising company in the world, they signed the Mou in one day. This happened purely becos Bharat and his team were being truthful of thier strengths and weaknesses. Bharat brought this world leader to india and efficiently managed it for many years.
9. Bharat said that one must know the clients business as much as the client knows his own. Or probably knowing better is always better. This gives him the edge to do good work. He also emphasized that when u work for ur client , u should take the ownership of the product or service. This will automatically help u to achieve better results for your client.
10. He emphasizes on being alert on identifying competition and in these days, u might not even realise who ur real competition is. Like the camera companies were almost wiped out when mobiles became cameras. Fax machines become absolute with the advent of emails and document scans. Sony Walkman was completely wiped out by apple iPods. Music is today sold online rather than on cds or any other physical media.
11. Bharat was entertaining in his communication and the audience didn't want the interview to end and wanted more. He enthralled the audience who got so connected in the conversation that nobody had a clue on the time.
It was truly an inspiring evening full of fun and knowledge and some fantastic interactions.

Bharat Dabholkar, like Dr. Narendra Dabholkar and Dr. Dattaprasad Dabholkar, is a gifted person; yet, they have different interests and different accomplishments.
