This year, there were several action cameras released the GoPro Hero 12 Black, the DJI Osmo Action 4, and a brand-new contender, the Insta360 Ace Pro. If you are in the market to purchase an action camera it can be a tough decision. The good news is they are all solid cameras and you will be happy with your purchase no matter which one you choose. In this video, I am comparing all 3 cameras both features and sample side-by-side footage in hopes of helping make your decision easier. At the end of the video, I offer my opinion on which action camera I am most excited about.

My issue with the Ace Pro is why it doesn't have a replaceable lens cover. All action cams should have that feature as it will ultimately be scratched and or cracked.

Honestly... I am looking theese reviews across the YT... I am still going to buy the Action 4. The picture looks sharper to me and more natural and less distorted. At night maybe insta 360 is better a little bit but overall I don't like insta-s picture. And the flip-up screen is in my opinion a disaster waiting to happen. Thin flat cable, and that hinge doesn't look reliable at all.

A lot of people seem to be suffering from some kind of group psychosis when it comes to the performance of the Ace pro. Yes it has some nice features and it seems to perform well in low light. However, the elephant in the room is resolution in daylight. This is literally an 8K camera that looks more like 2K. Just stop this video for the bike ride compared with the GoPro. In the words of Johnny Worricker, has anyone actually looked at the image, not just glanced at it but actually LOOKED at it? In the later clip, ignore the red arrows pointing to the sky, look at the grass There is so much more detail in the GoPro image whereas the Ace pro is as soft as anything, can't any of you see it? I had this camera for a few days and did my own comparison with my Go pro 11. It wasn't even close, the image from the GoPro was much more detailed. Like I said, the Ace pro is good in low light but personally, when I go skiing, sailing or windsurfing, I tend to do these during the day. The Ace pro was promptly sent back for a refund.

Thanks for the comprehensive comparisons. I have been leaning toward Ace pro for quite a while. From your video, Ace Pro's FOV seems more natural, and the white balance. I like how the details of the cloud are included, even if it's far in the background. I'm not sure whether I'll make use of the AI warp, but good thoughts though.

Depends on the user, I shoot a lot in low light conditions, Ace Pro comes out #1, DJI comes close but fails with stabilization, GP doesn't even come close to any of the two. I prefer to have a unit that takes great day shots AS WELL as night shots not to mention, no over heating issues which both DJI and GP have. Again, depends on usage.

Nice video! I am looking to upgrade my Hero9 to either the Hero12 or the Osmo Action 4 but can't make my mind up! The only thing that turns me off the OA4 is when mountain biking the footage looks shaky whereas the GoPro12 looks buttery smooth. My Hero9 freezes up, Loses footage and turns itself off un announced and I'm hearing this is still an issue with GoPro's? I love the low light performance, Battery life & Fast charging, Magnetic mounting and just all round usability with the OA4. Would love your thoughts? Thanks and happy new year! Adrian

Good video. I just received my action 4 last night and I am thrilled with the performance. I’m coming from the Insta360 X3, which I took back to the store before my 90 days was up. My concern with the Ace Pro was the non removable lens and the flip up screen. I can picture scenarios where the screen could break off. And, how will the hinge and lock mechanism perform if it’s open and dropped in mud or on a sandy beach after coming out of the water. Those are my thoughts, scenarios are probably 1 in a million but I would be that one. The Ace Pro technology does look very promising for the future of action cameras.
@MiyagisRant
@MiyagisRant 10 месяцев назад
Those are good critiques, as someone else mentioned, if you're worried about the screen breaking during an event, simply put the screen down, problem solved. There was someone who just released a video using this camera going through a Tough Mudder race, he was quite impressed at how this held out during the tough mudder and the footage was excellent. As for the X3, I have the Insta RS One with the 360, you cannot put lens covers on a spherical lens due to the curvature, it creates light artifacts, the GoPro Max doesn't have a lens cover for their 360 either, there's no workable solution for this unfortunately at least not yet. The x3 is a beautiful 360 camera though, mine is awesome with 5.3k 360 lens. I was hoping it would get good results scuba diving so I used it with the dive housing, nope, the housing lens cover just made it look weird and didn't stitch properly, too bad.

@MiyagisRant
@MiyagisRant 10 месяцев назад
@@perazdera5639Lol, love watching you guys dispute, consistently the same things. Ok, here we go... cable in flip phones??? seriously, from what 2001? lol By that logic, should be not buy $4000 DSLR's or mirrorless cameras because they will break? everyone of those now have articulating screens btw. Simple resolution to your argument, when doing action sports, PUT DOWN AND LOCK the display. It's really not that hard, there's no reason to frame your action shot with all the new features ie. Free video and the 5.3k weird ass resolution GP has. Remember, front framing screens aren't that old, hard to believe we actually frame our shots manually and got good footage. And if you still feel unsafe, stick with the GP or DJI, it's your money, but to say that 'this' or the lens guard makes this a bad camera when literally there are 10 other things that are better than the competition is ridiculous and bias. I'm not a fan boy by any means and nor do I work for insta360, I go where there's innovation, yah, not every camera is perfect, you have 8 hours, I can pull a million things wrong with GoPro or even DJI whom btw is actually one of my favourite companies, I have their cameras and drones. If Amazon only PO Akaso came out with an innovation camera that beats it's competitors with tons of useful features, I would go with them. I grew out of my fanboy status the minute I moved out of my mom's basement. There's no loyalty to users as much as the loyalty users give the household names. Tell me something, and this is a very valid argument, why does the company that's decades years old, with the 12th Gen camera that can't get their SH^% together and make a camera that still today is a chronic issue, I know tons of people including me whos lost footage due to that problem, they've had this problem for 4 generations of camera, you have this one which is btw their very first action cam format and it doesn't have an heating issue...hmmmm... even DJI has better heat dissipation then GoPro and they are only at 4th gen. Seriously? and you're picking on lens guard and flip screen ROFL You guys kill me, when did we become this society where small really irrelevant to a lot of users are MORE important then quality of output??????? Can't make everyone happy in my experience no matter what. At the end of the day, you're buying a camera and what does a cameras goal to record excellent, 'usable' pictures/footage. So step back, take a deep breath and think about what your real reasons for knocking this camera down. I'm sure you'll bring up the 10 -bit next lol
@perazdera5639
@perazdera5639 10 месяцев назад
@@MiyagisRant Real reason for knocking Insta for me is non removable lens hood, no hydrophobic lens hood, magnetic mount you need to be sure you was press good or it will fall out. I dont like flip screen on action camera. You forgot these is action camera. And about overheating . Mine doesnt overheat so far. Action camera is not designed to run 2 hours without stopping. GP 12 doesnt overheat in normal use. That is a fact. I was watch movies when guys put side by side cameras and watch they overheating after an hour. Who use action camera whole hour? No matter on overheating after one hour you will have other problems with cams. Leak of power and leak of storage place so it is stupid to talk about overheating on GP12. And about 4k $$$ DSLR. Yes I have dslr. I like photography. And DSLR are way better quality of any action cam and it is stupid to put them in these chat. Real purpose of action camera is to have decent movies on places you dont want to use expensive photo gear.

I have several comments I think you was miss to tell. There is big hype on Insta and before on DJI against GoPro. Because of that I was pick my action camera more then month looking all kind of reviews on you tube and finally pick GoPro. My opinion why is GoPro better. Better image quality on daylights and better stabilization, Flip screen on insta is not for action camera. Night videos are also very rare used on action camera. Everyone talk about magnetic mount and everyone miss to tell that GoPro have buckle mount who is also fast changing like magnetic mount. And only GoPro have hydrophobic lens cover and that is very huge for water sports and rainy days. No one mention that. DJI and Insta doesnt have hydrophobic lense. DHI is not supported by some phones. Insta doesnt have removable lens hood. And so on and so on. Very rare in reviews are talking about bad things on Insta and DJI. Like everyone is against GoPro just because he is leader and he do little upgrades on version 12. But that doesnt mean others are better then GoPro

It's not misleading at all, and reviewers brought that up. The were pre test models, not event the 8k recording was enabled. I'm guessing the decision to lock that guard down would have something to do with water and dust issues, who knows. Again, we overlook the bigger picture for a feature that can be worked around. GoPro 8 didn't have a lens guard either and that sold like hotcakes and go to the Gopro forum dated back when it was launched, look at how many fanboys defended that lol You guys are hilarious. p.s. also, they were sent out to test the image quality and handful of features that camera was designed for, they didn't push removeable screen in any of their marketing or documented material. I think we can expect the other brands to play catch up in their next release but maybe Insta360 will have an even better camera by then. I do a lot of timelpases and the high resolution dng files are great for post processing (albeit 95mb per file). I would like a lower interval like 1 and 2 second as options as well. Also Insta360 missed an opportunity to have a quarter inch screw mount at the bottom. There is space for it. Lastly, I hope they add webcam functionality in a firmware update.

Great comparison video. Seems like the Ace Pro could add vertical in 4k easily via an update given the 8k sensor and 2x crop feature already crops a similar amount

Came to this video thinking of getting DJI Action 4, maybe GoPro 12.. Now decided will be getting Insta360 Aco Pro!😅

My pick as well would be the stabilization at and low light advantage of the Insta360 Ace Pro. I plan to do some videos of mountain bike riding and i usually ride in tree covered areas that have low light.

The insta360 wins it for me. Great video!

Great review, thanks. I'm a Go Pro user, although I have the 360X2. As a motovlogger, there's only one choice here, as with it's 2 times zoom, 8ks worth of stabilization, night performance and front facing screen for framing from the handlebar back at me with a helmet on, while keeping the sky/clouds clear and defined, it's the Ace Pro. I currently have the GP Hero 11, which for me is the better pick than the 12 as it still has GPS and with the same sensor, specs and performance as the 12. In its defence, the 5.3K on the GP11 is fabulous for detail, and I think you will notice the difference between them when moving, but it's slight. The old Session 5 is no longer able to run without a battery changer on it at all times, and the video quality is looking dated. Time to replace it with the Ace Pro and use both the GP11 and X2.

The less interesting is the Hero 12. Each year a new one without any interesting innovations

I think voice activation is a great feature on the GoPro. Do the other cameras have that ?

Yes the Ace Pro has it. It also has gesture controls which work flawlessly

Yes indeed they do. In fact, the ace pro takes it a step further, and has gesture control.

Yah, the gesture I can already see it coming in handy for sure, also, the other big one for me is the Clarify zoom have you seen it? if it's what I've seen in reviews that worth it, there has been countless times I use that feature and most times it's unusable quality with DJI and GoPros, the other one that's a biggy for me is the pause record, that was one of the biggest request apparently via gopro and dji... insta360 listened lol

newer and better camera come out each year, cant keep up anymore. i usually just buy whichever new camera a few days before my trip on amazon and then return after the trip.. this way i can sample all the new cameras out there :)... look at the way amazon treats their employee badly i dont feel bad taking advantage of them at all

Ace Pro and DJI 4 (I think) work with DJI Mic 2, without adapter, without receiver.

I think there's a review about that somewhere, I've ordered one of those wireless mics on amazon it has usb c, wonder if this will work, guess i'll find out lol

 @damench22 You can connect a mic via USB. But the DJI Mic 2 doesn't need any USB connection. Huge difference! But it is not sold separately from the DJI Pocket 3 at the moment

You are soooo quiet... Didn't you eat breakfest? or you don't know how to pump up volume in editing software?

I think the biggest problem with the Action 4 is that it tends to blow out the highlights.

I know, I'm a big DJI fan, i have their cams and drones and almost pulled the trigger on A4 but I've been slowly following this Ace pro since it's announcements, been reading the pre launch tech specs and thought it was too good to be true tbh but after the reviews, wow.
