I have the pocket3 now and am also considering buying an action camera. They very different cameras, the pocket3 is now the go-to camera for filming myself in vlogs, and given the same system, I'll probably buy the action4.
Yes that makes sense to keep it all the same. But I’ve found this Ace Pro to very capable and it’s the best do-it-all in my opinion. I normally go with the Pocket 3 and Ace Pro when traveling
@@JBOutside1 thank you. Man, just recorded a 10 minute clip with the pause and resume, and my audio to video is mismatched. The video is lagging by about one second from the audio. Downloaded it to my phone at the same rate, and everything as recorded. Have you had this issue before?
If you are in the picture, the Pocket 3 will expose for you and not for the background. The best way to compare these cameras for scenery is without you being in frame.
The Ace Pro looks badly oversaturated, even when not in vivid mode. The orange kacket is practically glowing. The Hero 12 looks like a gopro. You either like that look or you don't. It's a bit too razor sharp/video looking for my taste. The pocket 3 looks like d-log m that hasn't been graded. Colors muted no contrast. Flat. Easily fixed with a little color work, or a lut. The action 4 clearly has the most natural looking colors, and its not under exposing your face to try and keep the sky exposed. Just my 2 cents.
Great review, everyone of these cameras has their strengths, at the end of the day, I look at 2 things, first, innovative features that make my life using this camera all day everyday easy, and out of the camera usable good footage without having to do any post edits. In your review and lots that I've seen, we are so good at picking that one or two features against our 'favorite' we neglect to see the overall performance of an actioncam, this is where Ace Pro comes in imo and I think this is what Insta360 had in mind when then launched this camera. It's certainly not a GoPro or a DJI killer but let's be honest, it's a very strong contender, I'm thinking maybe the Ace Pro 2 will actually be the competition killer ;) p.s. man, now I want the pocket 3 also lol
@@craigshandworldI agree although the flip up screen wasn't a super great idea, it targets a different market and I think that was their strategy, but I'll be honest, I have this camera and that flip screen is rock solid and built like a tank, time will tell. For my use, I have a DJI with a front screen, never use it but that's me so with this camera, that flip screen will likely stay down 95% of the time.
@@MiyagisRant for sure. Can you use pure night mode and freeframe mode at the same time? I like the screen but I think having the option to use it when you want or just use a front screen will be a big selling point. I still think I will settle on Ace pro out of the 3. Easiest editing software, pause record, free frame and low light is the points for me.
@@craigshandworld No, with PureVideo you're locked int to 4k/30fps, not a biggie as it does a great job. I think we will probably see more modes with purevideo in the future, the other way around this is witht that sensor, use the mode you want and activate low light stabilization, there's actually two stabilization modes. I mistakenly did a night shoot with my hand sticking out of my sunroof in just the regular 4k/30HDR with low light stab on while the car was going 50kmph and the video was actually surprisingly good lol
I had to go double check and I'm in Continuous Focus. I saw that from some other people that it could cause that but I was in continuous focus in these shots.
It's mind boggling how none of these reviewers can see how much softer the image is from the Ace pro. Even when it's paused at 14.59 I mean seriously, that image is garbage. The camera has some good features but all of that is out the window if the image is mush. I had one of these for a couple of days, compared to my GoPro 11 and sent it straight back for a refund.
All of these cameras are terrible in less than ideal lighting conditions. In full sun your GoPro is still the best and the others are really good too. When things get dark it’s a game of who is better. Everyone except GoPro is at least attempting to improve some low light ability with specific features. Which I’m ok with to a point. GoPro isn’t trying to be something it isn’t.
@@JBOutside1 yeah, it is vlog cam and there are big differeneces between them and comparison is not accurate. Pocket is much easier do break while MTB or sking. It isn’t waterproof also. So I Think there are too many technical differences to focus only on image quality. For me pocket looks great and I wanna buy it but not for an action.
All the footage from all the camera samples is pixelated. Did you set the bit rate to high on all the cameras? If not, change the bit rate to high and maybe reshoot the comparison again.
Great review. Did you find a larger minimum focus distance limitation on ace pro va GoPro 12? Seems the when vlogging your face is less in focus than GoPro. Thx in advance
@@JBOutside1 thx 4 your quick answer. Did you find this could be a limitation in terms of vlogging? I am between gp12 and acepro. Love the scepter but unsure how it works when the subject is focused from an arm length. Thx in advance.
I don't think it's a problem with the Ace Pro. I just shot an entire vlog style review for something else with the Ace Pro and just looked at the footage when at arms length and it's all just fine. @@jaimegarcia3760
I think this issue is a dealbreaker. When I'm out vlogging I don't always hold the camera out at FULL arm's length, it's natural over time to drift in as your arm gets tired, and you're not thinking about that you're thinking about whatever subject you're vlogging about. The second you do that on the Ace you start drifting out of focus. This camera is easier to vlog with than the pocket 3. But do you want "easiest to use" or "best footage"?
@@craigshandworld yeah i dont know why they havent made pure mode available into all modes , because you either have HDR , pure mode or freeframe mode , why cant I have them all at the same time
@@OFFROADOVERDRIVE I'm sure we'll be possible. But if I can use free frame and have better lighting still than GoPro 12, I would probably still pick ace pro. I wish someone would do a video on this
@@craigshandworld yes I would love to see people use it on action sports not short clips but long clips were you can see the quality but I still bought it because on paper it beats everything else and it’s a big jump from my GoPro 9 I would have made several videos but unfortunately I broke my foot riding
I can deny I’ve experienced that problem. I’ve filmed quite a bit for few projects and haven’t noticed any issue with the focus. And I highlighted the lack of 10-bit and log in my “need to know” section 👍🏻
You are OUT of focus on the Ace while everything in the background is IN focus. The opposite of what you want when vlogging. Whatever you are saying to the camera, that allegedly adds value for your audience is the most important thing in the shot, and should be in focus. If that's what vlogging is all about then the Pocket 3 is the clear winner. If you see something very compelling, then turn the camera around and aim at it! 😂 When you do that the pocket will have whatever it is in perfect focus. I like the ease of use of the ace, no gimbal, in and out of your pants pocket faster, but the footage doesn't lie, you're not in CRISP focus like you are on the DJI pocket.
Dude - all of the video footage just simply sucks. Not sure what settings you're using, but I just barely made it past the first 2 minutes of the video. Nothing was in focus and everything was blurry!
@@JBOutside1 Just fine to my eyes and great comparison btw. I like that you give a straight outta the camera view and not colour graded yada yada like so many others do. My dilemma is I just got the Pocket 3 and now I need an action cam. I prefer the Acepro for superior low light over the OA4. However, Acepro new firmware no longer works with Mic 2. I'm hoping this changes in the next update or I'll have to hunt for the old AP old firmware 1.0.21 and hope it still works.
I can see that. Testing the Hero 13 now, there’s some cool stuff but it’s the same sensor and processor. My review on that will be over on my tech channel @JBonTECH
@@JBOutside1 ya nah, go pro has too much competition and this year's camera is nothing special, in fact the only one so far that looks promising is the 40mp sensor from DJI action 5.. I ended up buying the ace pro for $299 new and couldn't be happier.. still have the original go pro, the hero 3 silver and the 7, and asked GoPro if I could trade them all in for a new camera hoping g they could use y data and make a better camera and or give me a discount and thwy siad kick rocks, so bow they can kick rocks.. we all wanted a new processor and a 1" sensor
@@cryptoskillz The Action 5 is going to be great to compare to the Ace Pro...and I agree that GoPro is lagging in innovation...but the autosensed lens set-up is something I hope gets adopted by others
@@JBOutside1 I agree, but I think the issue is the water-tiggtness. A removable lens has to be perfect.. and the ace pro needed to have a replaceable lens, so that's a negative but I like the firmware update, and low light performance
Unbalanced, uneven comparison, with some models (notably the Pocket 3) appearing only in situations where the difference is possibly less obvious and pronounced.... For instance, a low light comparison between the Ace Pro and the Pocket 3 would probably constitute a deal-breaker for many...
