I stick with the pocket 3, because of it's amazing image quality. For any other stuff I can't do with it (like using in the rain and so on), I have the insta360 X3, an amazing camera too, because one don't have to take care where the camera is pointing at.

I have been spending days to consider what I should get. my final decision is Action4 and Pocket3. Pocket3 will be the main camera and when it's rainy or to make it simple, I would go with Action4

that's the combo for sure, same D-Log M for uniform color grading, same user interface, etc. it doesn't make sense to pair the Ace Pro with the Pocket 3, when I'd argue it is worse across the board from the Action 4 *except* in low light... when the Pocket 3 already is the best in low light of all them.

Which would you suggest for things like DIY/woodworking content? Semi-vlogging but more looking to highlight building something and needing quick point-and-shoot set-ups? I like the mini-cinema camera aspect of the DJI 3, but if I was ever on-site or in a bit more rugged environment, I'd fear breaking it. Torn between these two!

I have the DJI pocket 2. I LOVED it when I first got it. But I definitely agree with you on the practicality of turning the thing on and off and waiting for the gimbal to do it's thing. And you always have to put it back in the case before you put it in your pocket. It's a small thing, but amplified by doing that 10-20 times when filming a typical vlog makes it tedious. I also really dislike the triple click you have to do to get the gimbal to spin around and face you and then triple click again, to get it to face outward. It's muuuuuuch easier to just physically turn a handheld camera in the direction you want to shoot, with a flick of the wrist than fumble with triple clicking. I've been shooting with it over a year and I still double click instead of triple at least 3 or 4 times every shoot. And then have to edit myself out when I'm swearing at the camera. 🤣 I originally got the pocket 2 because I had a insta360 X2 that I used in normal mode (non-360) for vlogging. It was fine during the day but the lowlight footage was HORRENDOUS, there was this god-awful wiggle in all the footage, and it was way too dark. It looks like from the shots of running with your daughter, that the bigger sensor and AI chip sorted that out. Would you agree? I think this camera on a really small handle (like 6 inches or so) would be a perfect vlogging set up. Not so big as to freak people out when you interact with them, like a physical gimbal with a giant iphone dangling off of the top of it does, but also not this tiny little cube that you can't quite get a good grip on.

I still think these two are very different class cameras. Gimbal camera compared to a action camera, both have their strengths and will depend on each individual use. But as a more versatile camera that can be used anywhere, portability, I think you know which is the number one choice ;)

I think the Ace Pro was designed to be an action camera, but to me it's a vlogging camera and the Pocket 3 is a filmmaking camera, a tiny cinema camera, way too delicate to do run and gun vlogging in my opinion, and also has far too much bokeh.

“Which one will I let me kid play with” is such a huge influencing factor for me - I would 100% be stressed out with the osmo when my kid inevitably asks to have a go, because I’m always filming, I do like to let them play too and to also get my kids POV shots too

I plan on buying one of these to create outdoor and indoor content (outdoor would mainly be on the golf course). I appreciate that the pocket isn’t weatherproof, but I like the tracking feature. I also like the simplicity of the Ace Pro. Any advice would be appreciated 🙏

Point 1: You can just flip the camera around and the whole scene will be in focus. Unless you absolutely have to be in the shot if you were specifically talking about the building. Point 2: Is personal preference, not a limitation of the DOP3 Point 3: They make covers for it that allows you to protect it while using it in the rain. Do you have to buy an accessory, sure, but it's not a deal breaker. But this is also going to be dependent on if you definitely need to shoot under water. Point 4: Comparing a non action cam to an action cam for an action shot, is definitely not a one to one comparison, but if anything, it shows how well the non action cam held up against a camera specifically made for action shots... Point 5: I give that to the Ace Pro Point 6: Don't most vloggers edit their videos regardless. Most also play with color grading even at a basic level. I understand the ability to not need to, but realistically unless you only do straight uploads immediately, I think this is a niche gripe. Point 7: DOP3 hands down. Whatever drifting you mentioned was barely visible, if visible at all. Point 8: Using a DJI mic with the DJI camera, perfect sound. DJI mic with a non DJI camera, sound quality not up to par. Point 9: Form factor is subjective. Point 10: I don't understand the trend of loving fish eye viewing angles, but that's also subjective. When I watch vloggers, I'd prefer a normal field of view. The zoom in on the Ace Pro had some artifacts when it moved, while the DOP3 stayed nice and smooth. Point 11: I have a feeling whatever filter you had on, is more than likely customizable through the app. Can you confirm if that's available to be sure? Point 12: You didn't make a point here. You confirmed there's an additional battery for the DOP3, so you can independently charge that battery and the DOP3...which is the same as having a battery in the Ace Pro charging in the camera, while also separately charging additional batteries in a charger. Outro: Rehashing the point that the Ace Pro can upload direct to the internet is again a niche requirement for some. Good comparison either way, but I think some of the items were a bit biased. I'm sure because I was defending the DOP3, I also sound biased, but I was just adding color to the points you were making. Cheers!

Great video, Phillip. I also like Free Frame Video for vlogging, so you can use your video in portrait and then reedit for RU-vid in landscape. I do a lot of my vlogging with the Insta 360 X3. I use my DJI mic for audio. There's a company in Hawaii who makes a great cage for the DJI mic and the Insta 360 X3 called, XMount 360. I like the DJI Osmo 3 for vlogging when I have the camera set up on a tripod and I want to walk around and have it follow me. but the AcePro is a lot better for walking and talking, so you can change the aspect ration. The wide angle lens for the Oslo is crap. Neewer makes some good ND filters for the Pocket 3. There are only six of them, but I think Freewells 16 filters is overkill and the goo thing about the Neewer filters is they are small and you don't have to take them off when you turn off the camera. Anyway . . . thanks again for your content. I really love your channel and I am learning a lot!

The X3 is great, I love that camera, it does such a good job. Makes me wonder what GoPro will do with the Max 2.0, that should be fun too! The Wide angle lens for the Pocket 3 sucks, it's big and it has too much distortion for my liking after using it quite a bit. As for the Ace Pro, I mainly use that in de-warp and feel best in that lens setup. All in all, great cameras for very different uses. Thank You!

This is a good video going over pros and cons with things I haven't thought about. I am still choosing the DJI Pocket 3 though as I like the tracking, and the film quality a little better. I think that for a solo creator it allows you to get more angles and dynamic framing that you just can't get with a typical action camera.

If I had to pick something up for documenting and vlogging, I'd go with the Ace Pro. If I had to pick something up for filmmaking I'd go with the Pocket 3. If I wanted it for sports with a super wide angle, the Action 4. That's how I see it.

I’ve been debating jumping from using my smartphone to either the action 4 or 360 pro ace. I’ve read that these type of cameras use large files that would take up too much memory on a smartphone. Ideally I’d like to load to my smartphone then upload to social media rather than having to wait until I have access to a computer. Would that be possible? My phone has over 100gb free storage at the moment. I prefer using my phone for convenience but the issue of running the battery down while filming is why I’m looking towards purchasing a camera. I’ve ruled out the pocket 3 as, like you say, I want something that Id be happy with my children using. Any advice would be appreciated. Oh the DJI action 4 is much cheaper than a the ace pro but I really want the camera that’s easiest to use, so is there really much difference between the two in terms of ease of use? Thanks

It's a fair comparison. I'm opting for the Pocket 3 when I travel to India next month, having previous expenience with the original Osmo and the first Pocket (which I hated). The bokeh effect that you mention would I imagine only bother a few people, if you're in the middle of the frame addressing the viewer, the last thing anyone wants is a distracting busy background. Might pick up a Ace pro for use during Holi festival..I can't imagine all that powder doing the Pocket any good :)

I just got the Ace Pro and going to return it. The image is soft & the min focus distance isn't good for vlogging. I'm never in focus. Insta360 really needs to fix this... Unfortunately, prob for Ace Pro 2. They really should add a closer distance vlogging mode now though.

Got a request and some questions if you wouldn't mind answering: Would you mind doing a yt short or something with the Ace Pro on 8k flat and low sharpness since I haven't really seen anyone use 8k for vlogging (Seen some 8k landscape vids and I think they look real nice). Can you edit the 8k footage and export it as 8k or only 4k on the tablet via the insta app? And lastly would I be able to use only the DJI Mic 2 receiver and record internally and then sync the audio to the video or does the DJI Mic force you to have either a transmitter or have it connected via bluetooth? Sorry for the long post and have a nice day!

Well, the 8K is really just an extra on this camera. It's meant for low contrast situations, and with stabe turned on there is a fair bit of lag, so I wouldn't recommend it for vlogging, 4K is more than enough. The DJI Mic 2 will record onto the Ace Pro audio, but at the moment the latest update does not allow sound to record, which is really odd. Hopefully that'll be fixed soon.

I love both of these cameras, but for totally different reasons. Low light, well, I'd always use the Ace Pro if I'm vlogging, if I'm filming something like portraits though I'd probably go with the Pocket 3.

Very good review and how nice that your daughter cooperated so sweetly with you! I've usd GoPros since the 5 but I'm really tired of the thumbscew jive! I know the Ace Pro uses that too. Would you say that it's less worrisome on the Ace Pro than the GoPro 12?

Thank You!! My daughter loves filming my RU-vid videos with me, we have a great time, and have been doing it since she was a year old. I would say the quick release mount on the Ace Pro and Action 4 is much faster and much simpler than the GoPro cameras.

It is much easier and a lot faster as the magnets snap it together and then the side locks engage making it very, very secure. It won't come off unless you want it to.

I so much thought that Pocket 3 will bring atleast water resistance so that it can be used in rain or snow not necessarily submersible but i dont find why to upgrade from Pocket 2 there is not much difference other than the sensor size and 4k 120fps

New Feature Requests for the DJI OSMO Pocket 3 1. Add a dwelling time for each of up to four settable movement positions in Motion Time-Lapse Mode. As each of the four settable positions programmed into a motion time-lapse sequence is reached, the end user could set from 1 to 10 seconds of a pause in gimbal movement as each programmed position is reached during the sequence before the gimbal moves forward to the next programmed position. This would yield a much more dynamic and professional looking, smoother motion time-lapse sequence. 2. In Motion Time-Lapse Mode the ability to set movement ease in and ease out settings from 0.5 to 3 seconds for each programmable gimbal position before gimbal movement normal progression rate is reached. 3. True 24.00p filming speed. 4. The ability to set time-lapse sequences based on 24.00p. 5. The ability to be able to record from the DJI Mic 2 and from a plugged in via USB audio source at the same time. 6. Adding a 10 Bit 4:2:2 recordable video codec. 7. Please add zoom capability when shooting in all time-lapse modes.

The DJI pocket 3 is on a gimbal and that’s the whole point. It’s a one stop shop for accessibility for vide blogging. The ace pro isn’t. Plus, listen to the wind noise on the ace pro, it’s awful. That being said, the ace pro had better focus on objects in the distance. The Ace Pro should be compared to a Go Pro.

The fact most vloggers prefer all around sharpness, the Pocket 3 drops out instantly. The image on the Pocket 3 is great but as a run and gun camera it’s way too delicate to film with. It’s much better as a creators camera, whereas the Ace Pro does great as a vloggers camera but has too wide a view for a creators camera.

Great video! I own both cameras and enjoy each for what they offer. That being said, and like I said I enjoy the Ace Pro, there is one issue for me. The wifi stays on. Meaning, if you leave your Ace Pro off for a couple days and then you go to use it.. the battery is dead. Thank You! I have to say I leave mine unused for a few days and the battery is always in a similar condition as I left it. In fact I need to recheck that as I used it last a few days ago. The DJI cameras are very good at battery life, and usually have full battery even after a couple of weeks. The worst culprit is GoPro, I leave that for a couple of days and the battery is very close to 0%. As or usability, I agree, both cameras are superb, but I tend to use the Ace Pro much more as it's just so simple to use and I don't have to worry about it at all, and as I'm with my two small children a lot, that really makes a huge difference, as I quite often have to throw it in my pocket in a split second.

They both have fantastic stabilisation, just be careful with the gimbal on the Pocket 3, a problem you don't have with the Ace Pro.

The Ace Pro really holds out well against OP3. OP3 itself is a great camera and takes great videao but agree that the Ace Pro is more suitable for a casual use such as vlogging. What sharpness setting did you have on the Ace Pro?

focus on the action pro at close up is not brilliant but distance focus is great. pocket 3 close focus is good but distance focus isnt good. So if blogging, certainly travel blogging. what is more important being in focus? you or the place where you are at? cant have both on a fixed focal lens camera. I am figuring Phil if your local town commissioned you to do come to our town tourist video on the cheap, you would be happy with the action pro, and get a reasonable result with a long selfie stick, so you are a little more distant and in focus and the back ground is crystal clear. by the way you do know i only watch your videos to see how that building is coming down lol.

Hi Jerry! No, absolutely no problems, it does a good job. They both sometimes get freaky when on AWB depending on what they're focusing on. If I'm vlogging I think both do a pretty good job, but I just prefer that I have more in focus with the Ace Pro, however if I'm doing something creative I prefer the bokeh on the Pocket 3.

I love the image from DJI by quite a lot to be honest. I think the best solution is to own both and use them in their best condition. Both of these cameras are awesome and in my opinion you will not get the wrong choice one or the other, just suit your needs.

Hello Phillip, I have just watched your fantastic video. I have been using my IPhone 6s Plus to record all my RU-vid content, but the camera on my phone has just started the 'death wobble'. I am looking for a super simple, almost 'point and go' like my IPhone camera to keep making my videos. All I need to do is record myself working on my bench and talking to camera at my table. I use a Blue Yeti mic when I'm talking to camera at my table. would you be able to recommend me a camera that would be as good (or better) than my now dead IPhone 6? Any help would be fantastic from you, maybe you could have a quick look at one of my videos to see what I do for RU-vid? A quick note, I hate tech, so the more simple the better and I'd like it packaged like a action camera rather than a delicate 'proper' camera . Thank you very much🙂

Well, to be perfectly honest, I see you are quite close to the cars and accessories you show off, so the Pocket 3 would be the best way to go due to its very good close focus, it is however delicate. So really, in your shoes, I’d pick up an iPhone 14 Pro which would probably be similar in price and is an excellent tool for the job.

I’d say the Action 4 is the more hardcore action camera, with more pro features that a pro sports user would require. The Ace Pro to me is clearly the winner when it comes to vlogging in all types of situations and in-camera processing.

Well, the Pocket 3 is a good one, with a really clean fov, but the Ace Pro is great in low light for interiors, has a wider and less distorted fov compared to the Pocket 3 wide angle adapter, so it could actually be very good for real estate.

05:10 I'm a little surprised, the P3 has a bigger sensor and the Ace Pro overall is better imo. Look closely at the exposure and even the motion, the detail is better also. both have the same lens flare issue on that back street light though. Hmmm this is interesting, did you guys catch this, freeze frame 10:28, look at focusing with his hand that close to the lens, Ace Pro was better, thought P3 would be better being a close focus vlog camera.

Well, the Pocket 3 with its larger sensor has less depth of field, so it can suffer as a vlogging camera, unless you just want to show your face, which really isn’t the point in vlogging.

It does a very good job, that's true, mind you, once again it comes down to what you use it for. If you're vlogging, out of experience I'd recommend the Ace Pro, it's just so practical in a vlogging environment due to it's durability, whereas the Pocket 3 you really need to be careful with, it's definitely not a run and fun kind of camera.

Ace oversharpens to hell and back and produces ugly skin tones. ill take 10b video and cleaner video all day over the ace mic on ace sounds far worse saying "youre faster to posting, so dont mess with Log" is such a dismissal IMO. I will take the extra time to refine my footage in 10b Log than take this messy, over-sharpened footage from the ace with far less color and dynamic range. The low-light is so much better with the 1in sensor on the Pocket 3 as well. Come on Phil, you know this as a cinematographer.

@Phillip, I interpreted this video you were sharing the following use cases: - vlogging with convenience/ease of use/durability, AP is the way to go; - best IQ and those who want more controls in post (have the skills, don’t mind and know post workflow, and take time to ensure best IQ), then P3 is the way to go I’m not sure why people want to challenge or question this. It’s simply your POV and on balance, it’s correct. I have all of them. GP12 just because I’ve used them since GP7 and I don’t mind giving to my small kids to use in water and on travels. A4 because it has more DR and pleasing colors than GP12 if I pixel peep which I do. P3 for travel and studio as I don’t always want to bring my FF mirrorless setups. And AP, just got it just because I like new tech and what Insta360 is doing, not afraid to leapfrog competition. I think if we take a step back, it’s not GP vs DJI vs Insta360 but these cameras need to widen their uses cases, otherwise smartphones will eat their lunches as it will eat FF cameras because as daily drivers, you have your smartphones and prioritize convenience over the rest (at least for me), but if you’re a pro and do this for a living, then the needs are very different. Anyhow, ranting. Good video and @11:46, you had me laughing with the lipstick. Need to stay away as I think it looks way better on your daughter. Keep the non-AI look, like it much better! 😂

haha, the non-a.i. look is the way I like to go! I think the main visual downside to the Pocket 3 is that the background has bokeh, and the majority of vloggers want the background to be sharp, whereas the majority of filmmakers want the background to be blurred. It's a simple point of view but makes a huge difference. Both fantastic cameras, but very different. I'd never give my Pocket 3 to my daughter or son, I'd be sending it off for DJI Refresh in 5 minutes 😂

A few solutions I can think of #1 If you want to show people the building behind you, get out of the way. #2 Moving parts isn't a big of a deal as you make it out to be. #3 Waterproof is probably a legit concern for some. Still an edge case though for most I would say. #4 low light - you're running, and talking about drifting (which is basically a gimbal doing its job and making the pan smooth. Is this because the Osmo Pocket looks significantly better, so you don't want to talk about it? Stopped watching after this, seems like a trashy bias comparison.

Nah, not really, it’s a real life experience comparison whilst vlogging and running and gunning. I use both a lot, and especially when I have little time so really rushing. If I had to choose on for that it would be the Ace Pro. If I had to choose one for clean “cinematic” shots, it would be the Pocket 3. Be nice Mary.

The DJI Osmo Pocket 3 image was in another league compared to the Insta360 Ace Pro, but I didn't hear you give any props to it. You went on to talk about stabilisation, and the camera drifting (all gimbals do this to smooth out panning so it's not so jarring, it's the gimbals job to smooth things out right?). Asking the audience which they prefer, mechanical or AI. Obviously you like the Insta360, there's nothing wrong with that. I just have a big problem with douchetubers dragging down other products because it's not the one that they like, and don't give credit where it's due. For eg. #1 The DJI Pocket 3 has bokeh because it has a 20mm F2.0 lens and a 1" sensor, and you tried turning that in to a negative. This is a big plus in so many ways, almost every way. The Insta360 is a 16mm F2.6 1/1.3" sensor, and it shows. It looks like footage you get from your iPhone. Bring some integrity to your channel and be fair to products, give them credit for things they do right.

Why film yourself in the first place if, what counts, is the sharpness of a random building in the background? You could always turn the camera around and just give a voice-over commentary on what's happening, if the landscape is that important. The Ace pro gives your faces a thumbnail-sized space somewhere in the middle of the screen, attached to that face is a huge belly/torso because of the position you're forced to hold that camera in order to respect its minimal near focus distance, and because of the wide angle which actually exagerates your body shape. I'm sorry, but the total result is not very pleasing to look at, especially if you're talking a lot into camera. And by the way, for the rain, mini umbrellas for camera gear do exist, so there is basically no excuse for not using a camera in a little rain. And you get no motion blur with the A.I. stabilization, whereas with a gimbal, you can slow down shutter speed to 1/50 and still get good stabilization results.

I have videos sponsored by DJI and Insta360 and work with both of them, as well as GoPro, so my balls are in all the courts 😂 This video was my own idea, both cameras were sent to me by DJI and Insta360 for previous videos, which I labelled as sponsored. Going forward though, I will make sure future videos have much clearer labelling. Yes, I saw both the videos you are referring to. It’s good for us creators that Jeven added uncropped screenshots for full clarity. I have never been asked by Insta360 anything unethical, and reading through the screenshots is does seem like there was some miscommunication, but I do recognise that there have been others that have been asked unethical requests, which is a shame as Insta360 cameras are in my opinion fantastic. Their products speak for themselves, no foul play is needed.

It's fast, that's true. It's a vlog camera that has the option to shoot action, that's how I see it. So Insta360 opted for a processor that can do a.i. but has no option for 10-bit or log, so that won't come in an update, whereas DJI opted for the same 8K sensor but a different processor that can process 10-bit and log so pro sports users can take advantage of those features that vloggers don't really care about.

I wouldn't use the Ace Pro for filmmaking shots or cinematic shots, I mean I guess I could, but I feel it's a camera made for vlogging with the option to use for action. The Pocket 3 is a tiny cinema camera, with it's larger sensor, out of focus bokeh, more pro features and clean field of view it does that well, but for vlogging, which it can do, I'd be very careful with it, slowing my down in a lot of situations. The Action 4 and Hero 12 are classic, hardcore action cameras with pro features for pro sports users. That's my take and I think it's logical. Sure, you can use all of them for anything you want, but at the end of the day those use case scenarios are best suited to them.

@@PhillipSkraba I'd normally pick the DJI Osmo Action 4 but Insta360's Garmin integration is something I'd use from time to time.

Not only that, but it also works with Apple Watch which is great for those that don't have Garmin, and it works with the app via your phones GPS, so it does a lot.
