Awesome video! Great job explaining how to do this install. The Mcgauphy 33089 install instructions didn't say anything about the trailer hitch removal.
You must be able to bench a thousand pounds. My springs definitely did not pull down that easy at all. I also had two extra bolts near the front of the hitch going to the bumper. Much more difficult then perceived.
Great video. What about if I just put new rear shocks on? Do I need shorter shocks or shock top mount extensions or can I hopefully let it ride on the new shocks even with the lowering shackles?
Does it not reduce rear shock travel by adding the drop shackles? A shock manuf told me if you add the drop shackles the rate of travel for the shock will be greatly diminished and thus will prematurely wear any shock out not designed for a 2" drop. Your thoughts?
You can purchase shock extenders for the shocks. However I did not do that, If I would have lowered the rear 4 inches with shackles and hangers I would have. The last truck that I lowered I did a 6" axle flip kit on it came with the shock extenders and I did that. I havent been able to tell a difference since they have been on the truck and I pretty much daily this truck. So it may over time but so far I havent noticed it. I think shock extenders can be had for around $30 for the pair.
I appreciate the video! The part I was hoping to see the most was distorted by the recommended next videos. It would be Awesome to have a clear before and after shot on a level surface
Sorry bout that cuz. The truck now has been lifted in the front with stock rear to sit level but a tad taller. I thought I recognized your name, I've watched some of your vw air shock videos before.
@@Fentertainment you got me! hopefully you gained some useful info from them. I just installed my drop shackles. mine were a little easier as the bed wasn't even on the truck. I'm excited to see what it looks like once i finish body work and paint!
You made it Look so simple, thanks. I ran into a problem on my 2013 Silverado where I cannot get the top bolt out of the shackle because I cannot raise the spring high enough to push it out over the frame. GM in its wisdom put a ridge on the bottom of the box that prevents this.
Is one side lower than the other in back mine is and don't know why. the front is the same on both sides I got my Shackle put on today one side is 33 ³/⁸ other side is 35⅛ in the back
I appreciate your video. I think this looks very simple to do. Takes time sure, but easy to understand for someone who knows nothing about it, like me. I have none of the tools you used, well everything but to lift it up. Let me ask you. Would it be cheaper for me to buy that stuff, or just buy the shackles and let a shop put them on? And what's a fair price in your opinion for a shop doing this? I'd appreciate you input. Thanks. Trucks look a thousand times better when they set flat in my opinion. I don't know why they come from the factory like that, what is the reason, do you know?
I know what you mean, I would take the money a shop charges and buy a floor jack and a couple stands. I bought mine from harbor freight years ago. I use them all the time for different stuff. Not sure what's a fair price. Just shop for prices and think what's the better deal. Once you purchase tools they should last you vs paying a shop for labor.
Trucks are always raised in the rear from the factory cause of towing and payload. The designers think the truck should only look level when you have a certain load pushing the rear down like pulling a loaded trailer or have gravel in the bed but its only level until you have even more weight so why they dont design it to be level to begin with we will never know.
ok, measured the rear and it was 38 1/4 before i install the same shackles, same holes as in the video. all said and done, sitting on the ground i went to 39 1/2. did not lower at all....WTF?
no clue, however i did throw several bags of concrete mix in the back and drove around. after about 30 minutes it settled to 37'', for my needs this was good. the parking garage at work in DC has a clearance of 74''. my truck was 74 3/4 before changing out the shackles and now its settled to 73 1/2. in the end it worked thank goodness.
You can add blocks with drop shackles. They will work together. Drop shackles relocates the rear mount upward were blocks relocates the leafs at the axle.
@@angelz98 My truck doesnt have struts, it has a shock and springs. My other truck has spindles for a leveled look but was more expensive for the spindles and alignment. If your truck has struts then I believe you can do a strut level and no have to do an alignment but not sure.
It depends on how you use the truck. While it will still ride the same and handle as good or better the rear will bottom out sooner under heavy loads when used like a work truck. They have ways to work around thos but thats a different thong altogether now the next thing you have to think of is do ypu want to lift or lower your truck? Its not as simple as just leveling it out. If you want a lower level look then rear shackles. If you want a lifted level look you need to lift the front.
Busca accesorios para muelles los recomendables y los q puedes agarrar fácil son los de 2 pulgadas ya si la quieres tumbar mas tendrías q comprar la suspensión corta
I'm back on your page. What rims are those? It doesn't look like they are twenty inch, is that right? I'd like to get some rims exactly like those but in twenty's. Do you know the "name" of them so I can search for them?
If you are just adding spindles then I would just run stock shocks since spindles doesnt change suspension geometry. It just changes where the hub is centered on the spindle. If you run springs, then I would add aftermarket shocks for that type of suspension.
Might be a stupid question but would I still need to get both sides up if I am just installing one shackle on one side? Or would jacking up the side I am working on be just fine?
The top hole is the lowest point because it raises the leaf up the highest. IF you put it in the 2nd hole it would only lower it like an inch instead of 2".
Jose Ibarra yes I just tightened mine down hard as I could and it works just fine I check them here and there and they haven’t backed out any but the paper the shackles come with says how much to torque them too.
So does this level most trucks? I have a 2004 chev 1500 and was thinking about dropping it a little or else level it. Would this work? Or would I need to measure the front and back to see which needs a drop shackle?
The back is about 3" higher than the front. This will take care of most of that. The only way to truly level it would be to add lift spindles to the front. I have a video on that as well.
Fentertainment iv been hearing I should remove the rear lift blocks. I’m just wondering does my truck even have them? I have 04 1500 Silverado 4x4 or should I just install the 2” drop shackle
@@Arahsaka Look between the leaf springs and axle to see if you have rear blocks. This truck did not have rear blocks on it. But if yours does then you could, Just make sure your u bolts have enough threads on them to use.
This truck is a 2wd with coil springs. I lowered the back in this video but after a couple months I put it back to stock and installed a spindle lift for the front. I have a single cab 04 2wd also that the spindle lift was on that I plan on lowering.
Good video bro i just did mine a montje or two ago and its a hella better look imo. Only difference for me was i didnt pull my hitch i just used a plasma (drill bit would work) and put a round hole to pull the bolt put without taking the receiver off. I want more low myself for this truck next is front drop spindles and rear is getting stock shackles back in and a axle flip. Your truck is clean as fuck tho.
Appreciate it. I lifted this truck with some 2wd lift spindles and stock in the back now. My other 04 that I took the spindles off of, Well I want more low for that truck as well! Thinking of doing a 4/6 on it. I'm sure it didnt take long to make room with the plasma!
@@Fentertainment i have a stock ram for work a lifted 00 mistang lowered 92 explore and this lowered 99 for fun lol i do miss my wreaked lifted 01 dakota greatly tho. Plamsma makes life more fun for sure lol. I jist hate stock myself. As for the 4/6 i would like to myself but dont want to drop to much in tire size. Im 1" from the bumb stock in front and to go any lower than the 2" inch spindle i would have to cut the bumb and mount out for more low lol. As fpr the back i didnt want to notch the frame but will likly have to for anything more than an axle flip. The 99 needs more low and better sub/center console built then cam, catless ypipe and ststurbo. Goal is to wipe the floor with my buddys procharged avalanche he put to much money into lol.
I put a 2 inch rear drop shackles on my gen 5 Silverado. I had problems in the sense of the seal was wearing out and there was a lot of pressure on my trans. I was told by the dealership I should remove them or get my transmission leveled. I ended up removing them. Any idea on what I can do exactly
@@valleymade9563 Not real sure. You'd need to measure the angle using and angle finder and buy appropriate shims for whatever degree needed. Typically that fixes the driveshaft angle to the gears. Maybe someone will comment if they know if it'll correct the angle at the transmission as well.
