In this demo, I will go over how we can install and configure Windows Deployment Services (WDS). WDS allow network-based installation of Windows operating systems. The WDS is becoming a legacy service as of 2022. However, it still can be installed on Windows Server 2022 as it allow the System Administrators to deploy legacy Windows Operating Systems. This demonstration uses Windows Server 2022 server. But the principles are same for Windows Server 2012 through 2022 (Windows Server 2022 / 2019 / 2016 / 2012). There are no or very little GUI differences among most of the previous versions of Windows Servers.

This is a good overview of WDS even when it is being phased out by Microsoft. There are situations where there maybe still organizations that use WDS for legacy OS distros. Thank you for another detailed explanation tutorial on Windows Server concepts.

after configuring server in wds nothing is showing as in ur computer it is showing install.wim and other options...

Can you please rephrase the question? I am not clear on the technical issue your described here. Did the client machine that attempting to install windows via MTD/WDS "hooks" on to the MTD/WDS files? Did you see the install options popup on the client device?

Can I have the DHCP server running on a firewall with in the network and deploy the WDS?

Yes, you should be able to have a firewall and WDS. If this is a Windows Firewall, then it should work without any other additional configurations on the WDS/MDT side. But if this is a third-party firewall, you may have to update the firewall rules and configuration options on the server-side or client-side. I run WDS/MTD in large scale enterprise environments without having to modify any Windows Firewall settings.
