Excellent tutorial! I used this to boot into a Surface Pro 5 that wouldn't boot from the internal storage so I could recover files. Despite using a USB 3 SSD and the internal storage being SSD it did still take quite a bit of time to boot up from it but it still did the job! Thank you so much for the tutorial!

Interesting. Here's the trick I used. I didn't have Win 10, but Win 7 and the free "upgrade" to Windows 10 (legit from Microsoft). WinToUSB did install Win 7 to a USB drive, but Win 7 would fail to boot (I probably needed a special driver for USB because my Win 7 was too old). I installed Win 7 on a SATA HD with a CD. Registered and updated Win 7. Used the free upgrade to install Win 10 over the internet. Win 10 was automatically registered. Installed all updates to Win 10. Shut down and removed SATA drive. Installed SATA drive in a USB3 enclosure. Booted off the USB3 enclosure. I plan on trying to use "Gparted" to clone Win 10 on the SATA onto a USB thumb drive. If it boots I'll then re-register Win 10 which will automatically (via Microsoft's online activation) de-register the SATA install.

Haha, you're using the same USB as the last video! This has served me great for running windows 7 on a USB 2.0 2GB flash drive! It's really fast surprisingly :)

@AA Computers and Technology I used Aomei patition assistant to do this with latest build but the issue with these installations is that the OS is not really as portable as windows to go since windows to go searches and installs drivers for each new device it is plugged into whereas these installs think it is the same device every time and try to run off of the same old drivers which makes it unbootable on devices it was not booted on the first time.

I'v tried this before (Win10 64 bit) only to find that the machine i tried to run it (MSI KT8 NEO2 w/Athlon 64 FX) on would not, even though it runs Win 7 Pro 64 bit just fine. And by the way it does run Win10 32 bit without a problem.

I need to see HDD of my laptop( Dell Inspiron 7537) which crashed and not booting up. If I create Live Portable USB of same ISO (Win 7 SP1) a. will I be able to view that HDD(assume HDD MBR is only corrupt) ? b. Do i have to create Live CD as bootable? c. What will be the difference between Live CD & bootable USB d. Writing to USB using Rufus from non-Live + non-bootable ISO will work or not to see my HDD?

So at 5:00 you are cloning your live windows 10 usb flash drive to a hard drive in an enclosure and then using that hard drive in another computer or the same computer to run windows 10? Am I correct?

The link which you download windows ISO from it give you direct link from Microsoft Services so I think its save Also you can use program called (Iso Dawonload tools by Heidoc) which also give direct link from Microsoft for windows and office P.S both ways give only links to retail ISO So you must buy key from Microsoft directly for Activation

I actually have an old alienware area 51-m 766 from 2004 that doesn't support booting from usb so the PLOP boot manager will actually help in my case. Unfortunately, it can only go up to windows 7 due to the processor being too old

Ok so on the windows 98 on cd has you redirecting any rewrites to the os on a ram drive as you could not write to any files on a burnt cd. So how do we do the same thing with windows 7? As the number of rewrites to any kind of flash technology is limited.

I used AOMEI wintousb and it installed windows 7 home basic instead of the pro version iso I had. It does not have some features I am used to and is kind of a pain. How do i get pro on the usb? Also i would like a uefi version. How do I do this?

I have this really weird issue where i can boot into the usb and see that the windows7 iso is starting up, but then it just turns off after a few seconds and boots into the normal system??? Just keeps doing this everytime

My first time doing a clean install of windows 10, I accidentally designated it to the usb it was on 🤔 when I removed the usb it did not boot windows. When I plugged the usb back in and restarted my the PC, windows booted directly from the usb. I Iaughed when I realized what I've done😂, I didn't even know that it was possible to have a live copy to carry around.

The thing is, using Win2USB to boot in uefi. Only legacy boot works cuz its NTFS and boot.wim demands NTFS and not FAT32 required by UEFI. And theres no option for splitting the boot.wim

I think it's funny that my main hard drive stopped working (my friend fixed it and I'm picking it up in the morning) so I took the hard drive out of my broken ps3 and I put it in to my pc and installed windows 7 on it which I thought was awesome but then when I tried to update windows 7 since it was really out of date it stopped the hard drive from booting right. Now I have this usb with me and I'm trying out windows to go. Which means I can have 2 main hard drives and 1 usb

What if you want to install it ON to a usb not OFF/FROM so it boots and loads the os from a usb rather than installing it from usb...i.e install FROM one usb on TO another USB to later boot normally from the 2nd usb as if it was the hard drive with the os pre-installed?

awesome tutorial i tried this using rufus usb tool and it took almost 3 hours just to copy the files to the usb and i was using a usb 3.0 drive plugged into a usb 3.0 port then the installer got stuck on getting ready and crashed...

I am a little confused about the nomenclature here, it appears your not "installing" windows 10 on the flash drive because that would make it portable. Instead, your using the flash drive as an installation medium or am I missing something here?
