meanwhile in 2024 I picked up a w541 with the i7 4910mq 32gb of ram the dedicated nvidia gpu for $200. still a great computer imo. even if it's not top of the line like it was back when it came out.
I was a cop for 30 years and I will rank the police cars I drove. 1983, Dodge St. Regis. Crap, no guts. 1985, Crown Victoria square body style. Good car, comfy and soft suspension. Kind of floated up and down. 1987 Dodge Diplomat, no acceleration but AC worked great. 1989 Chevy Caprice, fast car. Would get hot and AC would not blow cold air while idle. Had to keep moving. 1993 Ford Crown Victoria, new round body style. OK. 1996 Chevy Caprice. Vette engine, would get up and fly. Still would run hot in summer. 1998 to 2005 back and forth between Ford and Chevy 2006 Dodge Charger. Fast, AC worked good. Because of slopping rear window, tough to see behind when backing up. Blind Spots. Stayed with Chargers for a while then Switched to Ford Explorers with all wheel drive. I retired in 2015. Did not drive Dodge Durangos. I think the later Ford Crown Victoria were the better cars. Tough and dependable.
mg!! every time you open your yap you are wrong! N&S Bridge is from Intel x86 ONLY!! The CPUs are 64-bit Ulta Sparc, which is an advanced version of ARM, NO VIDEO ON THE CPU CARDS, they are all please shut up and do talk as all you do is show your ignorance!!! The Box is a frigen beast! this was the the badest box on the block. Why talk about something that you no nothing about, one more about the CPU cards each CPU has really two processors, on on the CPU which does the heavy stuff, and and FPU (floating Point Unit) on the silicon next to the CPU (not on the same die.) They could run headless mode! that handle is nothing to do with mounting when you take some screws out you now can pull out the Power Unit, its very heavy. hence the handle.
I don't get why they made this change, the layout is awful compared to the 7-row keyboard and you can't find the pageup/down and home/end without looking.
google shuold put the google play store in cloud ready , sof ree for anyone to download and burn on a usb to install on any most laptops and desktops, no excuses otherwise, ever!
I personally bought a lot of 2 A1181 MacBooks, one black 2008, and one white 2009, for US$45. Only the black one ended up being usable, but it has 4GB RAM, has the newer wifi card from the 2009, and also has a 1TB SSD which was handed down from my 2012 MacBook Pro. Runs really well, even using the OS X Mountain Lion patch.
I have got one right now. I put a 32Gb SATA flash drive in it & installed Windows XP POS Ready 2009. A stripped out form of XP. It does not need activating. I have installed the Intel GL40 video drivers but I still have not got any sound. I wanted to see if I can play GTA3 on it. The game is already installed & waiting.
This is 4 years late, but thanks for making this video! It's interesting to me that the cheaper laptops are also the most colorful, which is a shame because that shouldn't be exclusive to cheaper models. However, this laptop would still be good for school or basic work tasks, so it'd work for me.
I installed a slimmed down 32 bit version of 7 and it uses ~250 mb of RAM idle. It has no drivers as it's 32 bit but it's still cool. Boot times are terrible as it's on WinToUSB as my laptops hard drive is broken and after it boots it's pretty fast and responsive
Does anyone remember the Commodore 64s from the 1980s? Trust me, this little thing is a step up. You now have access to user-friendly data structures including OOP scripting languages. I'd be using a TUI in Python to track my stuff in SQLite3.
I had one of these years ago, it was good back in the day, the biggest mistake I made was upgrading from Windows 8 to Windows 10. The laptop was good on windows 8 because of the touchscreen and the rapid 20 second boot times. PS Windows 10 took around 20 minutes to boot on 1GB RAM.
This is a great Idea, they could have all this 16 bus lanes to the CPU switch based on if External GPU has input or power. if not just use the built in GPU. They don't want this, cuz this would make laptops life longer maybe even 10+years. Cuz you can buy external battery and fans for very cheap from china. They want the laptop life to be 3years or less. its profitable if normies buy laptops every 3 years once battery dies or pay premiums to put a new battery.
