100% they should. Even if they are just focused on enterprises, they already have to support three operating systems. While they are similar, they are not identical, so flatpak would even lessen the workload for them.

The advice sure is the right way to go thank you. I managed to get as far as installing Davinci, but it chokes. Its for reasons, not to do with your advice. It is QT and Python again at work here. If I can get Davinci to start up, this will be great. Your advice at least helped me to get this far. However, using the exact steps you did with the exact Fedora etc, Davinci wont run because of the following error. " This application failed to start because it could not find or load the Qt platform plugin "xcb". Available platform plugins are: linuxfb, minimal, offscreen, xcb. " Strange that I got to this unresolvable Python/QT nonsense following the same advice. Wherever Python and or QT goes, goes trouble - guaranteed. They are half baked languages.

Awesome, thank you for the detailed and good explanation. You or someone else could also setup the container and put it on a container registry, that way it would make it even easier for everyone else and future you to get it running. Maybe leave away the program itself... Or put together a docker file so that it is easier for everyone, too.

This does seem promising. But as a Linux Noob. Resolve compability has been the thing that is keeping me on Windows. Because... Just looking at the hoops required for linux users to do most things. I am more than a little intimidated. So many things make me ask... Why is this the users task to solve? If Linux truly wants to be the ruling OS of the masses. There really needs to be an overhaul of basics. Reinstalling the same app over and over to weed out the dependencies (whatever that means)??? Should there not be an option in the myriad of terminal commands to install the necessary bits and bobs automagically. And should that not be the default option in the first place? A "this will run the app on most systems and you can opt to do things manually if you want or if the defaults don't work as expected"? Sorry it became an unintelligible rant. But still. I am very much confused about why this is the end users problem.

Resolve's individual "programs" are being built differently. The Editing mode usually reads both user and system fonts, while Fusion only reads system fonts by default. I talked about this at the end of this video: m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YMtjRh1ve_A.html

Are you aware that Nobara already has most of the dependencies pre-loaded and an app to fix any that resolve is missing? It also has an option to install enhanced AMD drivers. Problem is the BRAW speed test doesn't work, and the RAW video player doesn't work either. Still trying to figure that out.

I'm sooooo close. All dependencies met, but I can't do the install because it can't go online to authorize it. Apparently the container doesn't support my ethernet out of the box, and I'm stumbling over what to do to get it working.

how to get rid of the need to re-encode mp4 files for video to work in the Linux version of Davinci Resolve?
@MichaelNROH

Don't record with AAC but with the PCM audio codec and buy the Studio edition. That's the most reliable but also expensive way to do it. There are plugins, however they also often cost money.

Technically yes, but it's practically not noticeable at all. Containers are heavily used in the enterprise business and offer near native performance

For AMD hardware I found it to be the best due to the rocm-opencl package that just works. Some other distros also have similar packages (or in the AUR), but many of them don't include everything Resolve needs.

hey! thank you so much for this tutorial, i followed it and davinci resolve now works! however.. when i try to ''distrobox-export --app /opt/resolve/bin/resolve'' it says ''Application /opt/resolve/bin/resolve successfully exported.'' but clicking that app that just formed seems to load for a bit and then nothing appears. launching through terminal works again though. any thoughts?

I've had two things happen in the past. 1. The link did not reference distrobox whatsoever (check exec=... in the resolve link in ~/.local/applications/) and I needed to export it again. 2. For some reason, the link expects the /opt/resolve directory on the host, so just create it with sudo and leave it empty. Usually this happens automatically, but not always

This was an awesome tutorial... and it appears to have worked flawlessly for some, but Resolve only generates an "unsupported GPU processing mode" error, even though I added "--nvidia" to the Fedotra 37 creation command. "nvidia-smi" work ok, and no errors in the log, but in the resolve configuration, under "Memory and GPU", there is no GPU listed :/

DaVinci is a royal pain. With this you finally get it installed, but it will still refuse to run without a dGPU, while it probably won't even need one 90 % of the time. Thanks anyways for the guide. Maybe I'll find some other use for distrobox.

I got stuck before any chance of getting it installed. I got distrobox with podman though Pamac in Manjaro, then followed the steps to allow podman to work rootless and then proceeded to install Davinci in the container. But I can´t get into the installation because it says that ¨It can´t be executed. File does not exist¨, like bash can´t found it, even if the .run file is recognized in the folder when I use de ls command and also I use ./ as it recommended in the video. As well I did the chmod +x procedure. May you know what is the problem? Anything seems to work

I got davinci working on my Fedora 38 some time ago without many problems (Although I never managed to make it working with my previous rx 580 even with rocm-opencl and distrobox), however, for some reason, anything i import is just black and won't play, both audio and video file. And yes, I do convert them to a supported format. I can´t find anything regarding this problem :/ Edit: just tried after two weeks and it's now working perfectly! So maybe some dependencies were causing issues. So yeah, success on Fedora 38.

I'm on Wayland, so I don't think that that's the issue. It might be related to double opencl-packages since some versions of mesa-opencl manage to open it, but not play any videos. If both rocm and mesa-opencl are installed, they might be conflicting.

@MichaelNROH 3 месяца назад
MP4 as in the format is not the problem. The free version of DaVinci Resolve on Linux does not support H.264 (AVC) or H.265 (HEVC). That only works in the Studio Edition due to licensing costs, which are usually covered by the Operating Systems. The newer AV1 codec works flawless, and if that is not an option, I would recommend recording with a different video codec

Without opencl-nvidia package, clinfo command returned nothing. I have a RTX3060 Nvidia graphic card.
@MichaelNROH
@MichaelNROH 11 месяцев назад
That doesn't sound right. On NVIDIA you get the option CUDA or OpenCL and don't need both installed simultaniously. What I found however was, that many NVIDIA drivers in a distro's repository are sometimes missing CUDA and it needs to be installed seperately
