I just pulled out a 2230 from an old Dell Inspiron laptop that died and want to install it in my desktop computer and need the same solution. Thank you so much for your video.
Do you think this can do on the Steam Deck? Someone showed an email where Gaben (the lord and savior of gaming) saying there's a 2230 M.2 Slot, but of course, it's gonna be hard to find. Whether it's fake or not, better to be prepared.
great video mate . Can i install a 2.5mm hdd for more storage? It seems to have a space reserved for a hdd but cant find the sata connector on the motherboard
Technically, you can... but it depends on what model you have. My particular model has only that two M.2 slots for SSD, but no attachment for the HDD. Some (non-AMD models) will have a combo of one M.2 slot for SSD and one for HDD. The battery model will also be different to allow for the drive to fit.
@@samsonleul7667 Yeah, pretty much. The RU-vidr "Tuner with Kids" tried with the same model we have, thinking at first all he needed was to just purchase the Dell propriety mounting bracket (v=IHe-r941kFw), then later found that even if he had done that, there would be no port to attach it to. In the end, he did the same thing I did and got an NVMe card too (v=qSZG-opCIQE). The thing that still confuses me is, when I spoke with Dell Tech support, was that they said you can only have 1TB total (i.e. two 500 GB SSDs across the two M.2 slots, or one 1TB SSD on one slot), so I only have two 500 GB SSDs... but I'm now thinking that maybe it can handle at least one of those being an extra 1TB, because some combinations show a 500 GB SSD paired with a 1TB HDD. It's because the Specifications Documentation is very imprecise, saying only that capacity is "Up to 1 TB" but does not say if it is 1TB per slot all all up (www.dell.com/support/manuals/en-au/g-series-15-5505-laptop/dell-g5-15-5505-setup-and-specifications/storage?guid=guid-381dc6f8-242a-41ce-b4b2-fbf5cbd0287c&lang=en-us). One of these days, I'll test that out-I couldn't find anyone online to enlighten me about whether having more than 1TB all up is possible or not.
@@GryphonHall damn I wasn't aware of these restrictions and was about to buy a 1tb ssd thanks for the heads up. Have you had heating issues while gaming?
@@samsonleul7667 No issues that I can see, and I've gamed during 30°C+ heat (WoW, Overwatch, etc.). The thermal plate seem to be sufficient. In fact, there are some who feel that SSDs should not be cooled too much at all (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Z3auLJtDb7s.html) because it reduces its effective life.
