Friend amazing video, lowed the graphics subbed. I have a Samsung 970Pro 1 TB but its on a PCIe Gen2x2 M.2 Slot. So on CrystalDiskMark 6.02 Benchmark software am only getting Seq Q32T1 READ: 847.4 MB/s WRITE: 792.9 MB/s after optimization with Samsung Magician! Its 1/3 of what is capable! I noticed you forgot talk about this Gen 1, 2, 3 and X speeds, also the cards you can get for M.2 Drives which can plug into either a PCIe 3.0 x16 slot or a X4 slot... Video update possibly?

@@MilanSerbia14 yes.. last year i upgraded my old samsung 830 series to a 1 tb 970 pro and 2x 1 tb 860 evo in raid 0.. the os is ofc on the 970.. even tho my 830 didn't even fully max out the sata speeds possible and only did like something in the 400ish read and 300ish write i have to say the jump from hdd to the 830 was far more noticeable in terms of speed (boot, app starts, etc.) than going to the 970.. but that is because in day to day use we don't really utilize the speeds that often really.. iops are really more important for a os drive than sequential read/write speeds.. because an os in use usually doesn't write or read large chunks of data at once but tiny bits of data is read and written again and again.. i think what makes the difference is latency for how snappy a drive feels and not raw read/write speeds and normal sata ssds have low latency anyways.. yes there is certain tasks where m.2 ssds really shine but usually it's really hard to see any advantage over the sata drives while using a pc.. it's more like a second here a second there.. another thing is that we can only really utilize reads because writes well.. as long as you write something from ram okay.. but else there is nothing in my pc that reads fast enough to max out the 970's over 2700 mb/s write speeds.. my 860 raid gives me at least 1200 read and 1050 write.. so i would need 2 more to get close to what the 970 can do.. you'd really need a lot of sata ssds in a raid config or another m.2 drive were you constantly copy data from one to the other to utilize that sequential speeds..

@@PowerCertAnimatedVideos can you help me please? In my country, recently Crucial P1, P2, and P5 m.2 SSD-s are in good prices. P5 is more expensive, but P1 and P2 are in the same priceline which I`d buy an m.2 SSD from. Firstly simply I just thought that P2 is newer than P1, and simply a better SSD in all aspects, then I`ve started to look for reviews, tests about the 2 SSD-s, and I`ve found that it`s not even a straight choose. When I saw P2, although it`s newer release and faster, it was mentioned that it doesn`t have DRAM cache, TLC variant (but I`ve learnt from the video that it`s not so important), and in the time of release it has an average speed. While I was searching reviews about P1, users didn`t really scandalize it, they consider it as a reliable SSD, and in the time of its release they praised the speed of it. So I get quite confused with this. I know that P2 is later and has faster speed, but I don`t know if someone has a 3rd gen. m.2 socket, and the SSD-s of that gen are all between 1-2000Mbit, then 1-2-300Mbit difference shoud count so much that choose the less reliable SSD? Sorry I forgot to mention that I have a Dell g3 3590 laptop and I would use the laptop to have the op. system on it and for playing games and occasionally edit own videos with a software. That SSD would be the only drive in the laptop. Please, can you help me which is the best choose? Thank you for your help in advance.

First of all I want to congratulate and thank you for this video. This video is by far the most illuminating and most clear video I have ever watched on youtube these days about clearing what M.2 NVMe and what it is NOT! Having watched at least a dozen videos on the issue, it is only this video which cleared out everything that was under the wraps in my mind. I think the powerful sides of this video are: 1) perfect animations 2) quite clear and slow description of things (many videos on youtube do not understand they are explaining the material i) to non-technical people ii) to technical people but who do not have much expertise in the area iii)to people whose mother tongue is not English) 3) sufficient information (not too much, not too less) 4) and just the technical information well balanced without any babbling, silly jokes or stupid phrases appearing every now and then- once again thanks and keep up the good work.

Actually this content requires an update as I was already using a M.2 NVME on my now retired FX based system using a PCIe card as the motherboard lacked M.2, but Windows 10 supports it. I'm pretty sure it is also supported by the linux kernels and distro's. Please note that I am not saying incorrect, but requires an update due to the statement at about the 6 minute time mark. Provisioning has come a long way also. I also used PrimoCache and RAMDisk's on my system as it had 32G DDR3 @ 1600 which most people didn't have much experience with about five years ago. But that's probably covered in a different video I'll assume. But good coverage, thank you. :)
@Mauser1965
@Mauser1965 4 года назад
I suggest watching the coverage by Gamers Nexus if you are not already, as the content is not about gaming but hardware itself. Please note that I used this visual coverage on my topic on M.2|SSD's on my FB page. Never upgrade a machine that is going to be used by marketing that is next to an accountant. They won't understand. . Generally people will not comprehend that reading|writing to the same drive slows the process of transcoding video content and that more cores|threads are really used in performing these tasks. I still do not have my A+ though my first distro was Slackaware back in 1998 which installation is by far different from doing an install these days. ;) lol

@madmax2069 4 года назад
@@Mauser1965 about the only thing that would need to be updated about this video is the inclusion of PCIe 4.0 drives. But otherwise there is nothing to really update about this content. Just because your board lacks m.2 doesn't mean a thing.
@kalijasin
@kalijasin 4 года назад
Kenneth, m.2 is just a different form factor. That's it. In fact, most M.2 SSD still use Sata III. Some of the newer ones use Pci-e but they are less common and more expensive. The one in my Thinkpad laptop uses Pci-e. I could of used an old school 2.5" SSD with a convertor cable if I wanted. It'd just auto- switch over to the SATA controller when its hooked up if I did. I chose to use an M.2 SSD though. The M.2 SSD is a little less lighter, it gives me more open space for airflow, and PCI-e is faster than Sata.

I can't believe I really *SLEPT* on this these storage form factors for *YEARS* now. I've seen these on Amazon, I thought they were some kind of laptop memory never reading descriptions. 2017, My Son bought Me a Dell 5600 series, only opening it to add more memory and a 2nd hard disk drive. I didn't pay attention too much at the MotherBoard. End of 2020, both My houses caught fire due to vacant house in between being set on fire. Lots of fire/water damage and huge losses of many things. My Dell didn't get damaged at all other than debris being inside it. I finally after 2 years decided to work on it to see if it was still functional, it is and using it now. So, while vacuuming it out and wiping inside with alcohol, I noticed 2 slots for these types of drives marked *_NVMe & M.2 SSD._* Realizing something could be connected to the slots. I looked it up, slapped My forehead shocked of Me sleeping on these. I will be purchasing those *_"little sticks of gum."_* They're very cheap now.

I have a technical background but I am not impressed when someone throws dozens of acronyms around in an attempt to show intelligence. It reminds me of the military. Side note: Someone told me that while he was in the service, he told his boss the same thing every morning. It was this. "Hey Sarge, I'm heading down to HQ for C&D." Sounding official, his boss agreed and knew the trip would take the customary 2 hours. It ended after 18 months when the Sargent asked "What is C&D ?" Oh, he replied, Coffee and Donuts. I've decided to subscribe to your channel and am looking forward to your videos. Thank you.

5 years later, I can't believe how dirt cheap 2 Tb m.2 drives have become. It's like they are one their way out to make room for the next big storage technology

Oh snap!! Not only was this video extremely informative/helpful but at the 6th minute you probably saved me 200$ by letting me know the card I was about to buy was actually slow as it was one of the sata drives. That would have been a bit of a disappointment... I'm updating my new pc build to include Samsungs 970 pro drive, verified against other hardware for compatibility... Looking forward to seeing the results :) HUGE THANKS! For both the knowledge and savings!!

I am still scratching my head about why would someone dislike this video. Everything said here was absolutely correct and highly informative. And it wasn’t also hypothetical and was presented with detailed data facts. Some people hit the dislike button just for the sake of it.
