Install FLAT Spline the proper and easy way.

This is a great video, short and to the point and helped me immensely however there's one thing that would help everyone greatly that I found after an hour of trying to install, coming almost to the conclusion that it was to big and that it was never going to happen, If it takes you more than 5 minutes to do let say one side of a rather large panel than your are doing something wrong. now this gentleman has covered everything except one. This is what took the majority of wasted time that I did. Before you try and install this spline look and see if there's any old screen laying in the track from a previous install. Mine looked clear but when I looked closely I found old screen laying there. You have to look closely epically with some of the darker frames its hard to see and when you remove this little strip of screen , low and behold its a perfect install with no trouble at all!! GOOD LUCK!!!

I struggled with it also. This U tube helped a lot. I accidentally left the spline in the sun and noticed it was easier to install when not the AC temperature of my home. It was more malleable.

I suggest pulling/stretching the spline as you go along with the roller, that seems to help a bit as well.

My spline is flat on both sides with no rounded edge. I managed to force in the long piece which then stretched the length 12 inches past the length of the frame. I used way too much force to get it in the groove. Also I'm replacing the regular screen with that heavier type for pets. Now I'm having a dickens of a time starting the 2'nd shorter piece at the base. I ordered a new plastic spline applicator because my concave runners are pretty much flat. I was concerned to order a metal spline application device for fear of tearing into the screen. I read a tip to spray silicon grease on the rubber and leave it in a plastic bag to soften it up for a few days. It did make it more pliable.

Phifer spline manufacture says either way OK, round side in first and under is more common but on top OK too.

Any tips/tricks for installing pet screen into a flat spline door?

Is flat more universal? I installed some screen the other day. The channel was different sizes in some areas. Like they used scrap pieces to build the Lanai. I used round spline and some area it was a great fit and some loose. I can't carry 10 different sizes

Why do I see everyone using a concave roller intended for round spline to install flat spline?

Please note that there is a deep side to the channel that you press the spline into. When you are starting the process the rounded side faces you and you must press the spline into the deeper side of the channel (usually the inside of the space) before you use the roller to press the spline into the not so deep side. I've been aggravated by trying it ALL of the other ways, flat side out, press into the wrong side, etc. I thought that it wouldn't be so tough... Also, the manufacturers videos were spectacularly unhelpful. "Just roll the spline in and trim the screen. Easy!" Easy if they had told you round side out, press into deep side first. If you find the manufacturers video where they do say that, well good for you...

More easy without the screen. On the floor not above the pool. Just use round spline that’s the proper size.
