Install Kasm Server in Proxmox TKL VM

In this video I show you the process to install the Kasm server into a Proxmox Virtual Machine (VM) using an ISO file from TurnKey Linux. This is almost the same process as my previous video using LXC but, using a VM is much more secure than using a Privileged LXC. Anyone looking to install this permanently in their home lab or home production environment should really use a Virtual Machine.

Kasm install files (delete extra space after // to make it work):
wget kasm-static-content.s3.amazonaws.com/kasm_release_1.7.0.a80105.tar.gz
Unzip the files: tar -xf kasm_release*.tar.gz
Install Kasm: ./install.sh -L 8443

The link in the description for wget is hard to use. You cant see the whole url, and if you copy the link it will copy a youtube redirect url.

is there a reason why you do not install sudo ? cause if you install it you can use it with root as well ..

I do install sudo in this video. I does not normally come installed in the TKL versions. I didn’t even think to do that in the first video using an LXC. But someone pointed it out and it’s a lot easier in this video. No editing the script files.

I am running kasm on my home server, in my local lan it works great, and if i wireguard into my lan. But i can't get it to work remote? I have set up an new url (kasm.mydomain.com) and added that one in my "Nginx proxy manager". In cloudflare im not proxying that url. From remote i can access kasm and the whole backend, but if i try to start any image it will be started (i can se that in the backend) But it will time out in my remote browser and then go back to home. Maybe there is some extra config needed in "Nginx proxy manager" to get it to work? I have open the 8443 port, so that is not the problem.

Have you set the proxy port in Kasm? www.kasmweb.com/docs/latest/how_to/reverse_proxy.html

@@AllenSampsell I put -L 8443 when i installed kasm, i have NPM pointing at 8443, and the proxy port under zones is allso 8443

@@AllenSampsell I can see a "Invalid token" in the log when i try to start an image while using kasm.mydomain.com, but it works fine when i use 192.168.x.x

Mathias Fröjd I think that might be your problem. If I read the documentation correctly. And looked at the examples... I think in zones it should be 443.
