Thanks a lot! I first installed Kasm in a VM on Proxmox but that took away quite some system resources. I now installed Kasm in a LXC on Proxmox, following your instructions, and all works great. A lot less resources are used up now. I did complain about FUSE in my version of Proxmox etc but that was easily solved.
Thanks for this video. I'm getting mixed results on this working with my internal sites, but I'll get there eventually. Your tip on setting the environment variable for the URL on one really helped me. I appreciate you taking the time to do this.
I'm not Docker literate... I use TrueNAS Scale. Just another box and added complexity. Seems that HAproxy will do the job. The jury says both are easy... just depends on which you may have an interest in using. My pfSense machine is way undertasked and will do a great job. If I'm going to need to have a learning curve... I'll do HAproxy. However I have built some Nginx reverse proxy stuff on my TrueNAS system... It's easy... just make another jail, and use the nginx.conf from the Internet with a couple changes.
enjoyed your video. However need to understand the reasoning behind using Nginx Proxy Mgr vs the HAproxy that is internal to pfsense. My pfsense runs on a DL360g8 server with dual 73G mirrored drives. Super powerful configuration... eh? Would appreciate your remarks.
Ahh now that’s an easy one. It’s mainly simplicity and ease of use. I did look at the inbuilt haproxy however I was already familiar with Nginx and the learning curve for me to figure out haproxy seemed unnecessary. If you’re familiar with haproxy, by all means use it. That would be one less docker container you’d need to worry about.
I was looking for this for a long time! I only got tutorials for exposing the services externally, I prefer to keep everything internal and access via VPN, thanks for the help!
What is best way for r720 -r720xd update in 2024? Dell removed from that Repository manager items older than april 2023. Any extra way to make it work?
If you have an older catalog you still might be able to get to the files in the DRM software. If not you can maybe download individual updates from their website. It's more of a pain, but technically should still work.
Can not load any linux disto updates for r720 & r720 from today (2024). Tried multiple package paths, and years. . found only Esxi based updates from December 2020.. searching deeper
very nice video - thank you. One thing though: if you use letsencrypt certificates, you can create *.mydomain and reuse for all local services. With self generated certificates I am not able to do that - browser has issues. But when I create certs per host i.e. myhost1.mydomain all is working fine and green padlock. But, I did not see the part of importing the CA cert into your OS/browser...
Well apparently Dell only allow you to download only so much before they cut off access. The good thing to do is to wait 24hr and go further. This is on the DRM and the server page.
I’m actually using split DNS. PfSense has a DNS Resolver that allows local redirection. But my real DNS server for my websites is built into my Univention Corporate Server VM. So not an easy answer for anyone.
my dell r710 shows bios 1.1.4 on boot. When i run this update iso, it looks like it updates everything, says to reboot to complete and then shows "bios update failed" - I can't seem to figure out why this is happening.
The difference between the current BIOS and the one on the update is too great. You’re gonna need to update just the BIOS manually. Head to the Dell website and grab the first BIOS in the 2.0 section and update to that. If it works. Do it again to something mid 3.0. Keep doing this until you get to a point where the latest BIOS on the ISO works.
Very useful tutorial indeed. I recently bought PowerEdge R720 and struggling to update the system even though I installed Red Hat 8.9 without any issues. This tutorial shed lights on how I can move forward to update the system I think. Thanks.
You mean in the docker configuration? Yeah I had to call out the mount in a way I’d never seen before when trying to run it directly from a NAS. I think it was like a local device ID. But I’m sure it can be done with a little more research. Good luck!
If you mean using the Dell software, yes that's true the new catalogs don't offer the R710 any longer. I have made some ISO files and put them on my fourm.
@@AllenSampsell Thanks, going to look into automating it with a cronjob, granted my set up is on opnsense without certificates from opnsense itself. Thanks for the video.
That’s a great question. I doubt it because I made all mine FQDN compliant , at least for local DNS use, so they would proxy correctly. There may be a way to do it though.
I finally got around to doing this to mine I was holding out for a software solution for years, but it never actually happened. Mine is ONLY giving "snack" portions with every cycle and doesn't seem to be honoring the inching settings. I AM using the universal power adapter linked. I wonder if they maybe changed the board or the power supply?
Also it doesn't appear to be powering off with every feeding. I can hammer the button and give as many "snacks" as I want. I wonder if I got a defective board.
@@plasticlobster69 A defective board is a possibility. And honstly I've not used this system in so long they might have changed the settings. However, those inch settings are pretty integral to the flexibility of operating the system so I doubt they'd mess it up that bad. Hope you can get it working again... Loved that little feeder.
@@AllenSampsell I just decided to schedule 3 snacks a minute apart instead of a full meal. It works out about the same, lol. Maybe I'll grab another board and switch it out, but considering this is working, and I can say "Hey google, turn on the cat feeder" to give her another snack, I'll probably just let this go for now. Appreciate the reply, though.
I hope you are still around Allen :,) Whenever I try to update my own PowerEdge Servers that I use for virtual machines(ESXi) I am presented with tons of updates at DELL Support! Like 60+ possible updates, but I am super sure I don't need all of them! But I am also not super sure which ones I do need... How do you know which updates you should actually get?! :0 Should I just stick to BIOS and iDRAC updates?
I usually just go with updating anything I possibly can. However, if you are using a board that has been flashed/updated for a specific purpose, like an HBA used for JBOD instead of RAID. Then you don't want to update those. You can stick to just updating the iDRAC and the BIOS. That will resolve most of any issues you might see. Minor updates to the firmware on say hard drives and such might not be as necessary.
I am glad I cam across this guide! I have been wanting to do the same with a DAC cable from my proxmox to my truenas server. I highly recommend truenas.
Windows keeps the page file somewhere in the middle of the OS partition and because it's in use - Disk Management allows you to shrink only half (from the page file to the end). If you completely disable the page file (and restart) you can shrink it to the maximum (~50GB in this case). 🤓
hi Nice informative video, but is there a video to access books and comice save not inside the docker folder, I have tonnes of comics and ebooks but need to save them in a structured manner,. I am using Synology.
I’m not sure I understand your question. I use a NAS as well. All the files Kavita looks at for its libraries are on my NAS. However if your file and folder structure are completely supported by Kavita is a different issue.
@@AllenSampsell thanks for the reply I means I have send tutorial to save comic and book inside docker folder which I don’t want I try to add my my comic path as point the same to director ( after clone : ) still not working don’t know what I am doing wrong
@@civilsachin22 The comics and books are stored on the NAS. The Docker container is run on a completely different machine. In the Docker config you are pointing to the network folder on the NAS. How you do that is different for everyone. I suggest going to the Kavita Discord and asking for assistance there. Some things I just can't help with.
Mine was when it’s should be open it re-close about 75% halfway either with the button or in Reverse… So: I reach back and I cut one of the wires that is for the shade and connect each end with one end of a double wire, makes it go all the way to my seat side between the door and my seat, wire it to a switch and fixed it just under my seat decor.. Now whenever it’s fully open the switch is OFF preventing it from reclose. And the button from old fridge so it’s always open circuit until I push it till it’s fully open or close then release. whenever Im reversing or just want to fully open the shade.

Behind? My domain controller is a VM on my Proxmox machine. I have split DNS so that I can redirect to my internal sites. It’s not perfect but it works.
@@AllenSampsell Hey, nah I mean how to get proxmox web gui to work properly behind a local dns entry, whenever i do it i get errors, i think theres extract configuration that has to be done for it to resolve properly. Do you recall what you had to do to get it to work behind your local dns? Great video btw!
@@28469 All I did was put a host override in the DNS Resolver. I didn't make any other configuration changes. In NPM I did enable websockets support...
So i finally got around to installing this and it works great however I'm having issues getting this to work with my reverse proxy. I have it running in a contanier on my Qnap NAS- The reverse proxy is working because it gets me to the Kavita page however, once there I can not login there is sign on optioon but it just erros out. Qnap contianer -Cloudflare a record - Nginx for the proxy. Any suggestiosn would be greatly appreciated.
To add to this....mine did"shut down" finally. Upon closer inspection I restarted it by plugging in the loosened charging connector/which cable had partially detached from the unit where it meets it. Simply had been dislodged from its' full 'in' position and is working optimally (?) again.
Hi thx for the great tutorial, under the local ip everything works. When I use my domain trough Cloudflare tunnel I can reach the main page and headman site but as soon as I want to start a workspace and not matter if I open it in the same window, an extra tab or in a new window it will be stuck at connecting ...... checket it with safari, chrome and firefox same thing everywhere. Any Idea on that one. THX
My apologies... I replied to this but it was to the youtube NoReply email address.... Actually I do have a suggestion here.... Under Zones you should have only one and there are three dots that allow you to "Update Deployment Zone". The zone name is "default". Upstream Auth Address is proxy, Proxy Connections is checked, and finally Proxy Port is 0. Try that and let me know. I had to reach out to the folks at Kasm directly to get help with this. The way I had it setup before these settings, I could get to it internally inside my network if I left things default. But If I changed (I think it was) the upstream Auth Address to the IP of my Kasm server, I could only get to it by coming in from outside my home network (the internet). But this new config with the Proxy and Proxy port allows both. Sounds like your answer is somewhere in there. If it doesn't work, I would contact the folks at KASM directly. They have a sub-Reddit that they actively monitor as well.
