In this video I show how to create a local Kavita instance in Docker using a Portainer "Stack" which is essentially Docker Compose. In Portainer you can see Compose Stacks that were created outside of Portainer but you won't have the full functionality of control that comes with creating a Stack inside of Portainer. I also go over the process of creating Libraries and Collections as well as showing some of the different reading modes. I can't wait for that metadata video. Not having my series together for my epubs is driving me nuts. lol. It email/invite users isn't working for me either but I'll head over to the discord for that. Thanks for the videos!

Docker installation step by step guide would be awesome! I can't understand how to add books to folders when Kavita is installed via Docker. So it's defeats the purpose and i really want to use this software.

I have an issue where after creating the stack/container, the web page just keeps loading to infinity and nothing shows up. I have tried recreating it, changing some settings, but nothing seems to work :/

If this is your first try setting this up you may want to hop over to the Support section of the Discord for Kavita.

trying to add to library on an asustor nas is a nightmare. can't figure out how to map it to my existing folder

You mean in the docker configuration? Yeah I had to call out the mount in a way I’d never seen before when trying to run it directly from a NAS. I think it was like a local device ID. But I’m sure it can be done with a little more research. Good luck!

I hope i didn't overlook anything in the video, but i have no clue how to have kavita access my host computer files, could you help me please?

Well that should be in the setting up Libraries portion of the video but it will vary depending on your setup. How did you install Kavita? Ohh and if you want more comprehensive help find the main Kavita website or Wiki and find the Discord link. There’s always someone around there that can help.

I tried liking Kavita but the file system is impossible. None of my series are combining in my comics. Only my Mangas are properly combining.

Did you head to the Discord room and ask there? There's some other software projects that help with naming conventions.

Q: can kavita use a shared folder on my localnas ?

Of course. It all depends on your configuration. Depending on the NAS, you could run it on the NAS itself. I have a small Ubuntu machine and have a share from my NAS mounted locally. Works great.

Just came across your video and sadly portainer removed the ability to create stacks on the free version 🫠 hopefully we get some update on this I’ve tried installing it normally but im stuck bc I can’t find a way to set up the volume on synology, stacking looked reasonable but not anymore ;-; thanks for putting some coverage on this!

Sorry, what version did they remove Stacks? I’m still using Portainer but I have not updated the the very newest one yet.

@@AllenSampsell looks like synology only supports the CE edition. - 2.13.1 Guess thats the reason..
