How to install a new solid state drive in your Boss BR1600, BR 1600CD and Roland VS1680, VS1880 or VS1824CD. This may work in other Boss and Roland devices but I have not tested it in those. A device I could not get it to work in is my Korg D1200 :( .
The solid state drive I successfully tested and have been using for several months is the KingSpec PATA SSD purchased from Amazon but available on other sites as well. I was unable to get the VS series to recognize more than 8GB even when a larger drive was used. The BR1600 can use 64GB or larger, not sure what the maximum size limit is for that device. Also, I was able to use new SATA (not solid state though) drives in the BR1600 with a PATA to SATA converter purchased from Amazon. So far I've been unable to get a SATA drive of any type to work in a Roland VS multitrack recorder.
Amazon 40 to 44 Pin Converter for use with Boss BR1600: "GODSHARK IDE to Desktop PC Adapter, 2.5 inch 44 Pin HDD Hard Disk Drive or SSD to 40 Pin 3.5 inch PATA Port Converter Card"
Amazon 32 GB SSD: "32GB KingSpec 2.5-inch PATA/IDE SSD Solid State Disk (MLC Flash) SM2236 Controller"
