Chromebooks are a fantastic option for a budget laptop, especially when compared to similarly priced windows computers. They're of decent build quality for the price, and crucial things like the trackpad and keyboard are actually somewhat usable. One thing that I can't appreciate, however, is chromeOS. It's meant to be a lightweight and easy to run OS, but that comes at the cost of not being able to run, well, most apps that you might want use. Luckily, there is a way to install Windows 11, or any other OS, on your laptop.

For the people who removed the WP screw and it still says WP is enabled, make sure to totally remove the mesh around where the screw was. I had this happen to me so I reopened the laptop and scraped off that sticky mesh and it worked after that

Thank you! Your video was the only good ressource I could find for the whole process of how to get Windows on my kid's HP Careena Chromebook. I had to power it on with the battery unplugged, in order to disable hardware write protection, and then disable software write protection from within ChromeOS, before I could proceed, but thankfully the paid audio driver had since been made free.

Howdy, just got to the step where you check to see if your device is supported with this process. All of the requirements were check yes green except for one, Audio(HDMI). Will I still be able to convert my device, HP Chromebook x360 11 G1 EE, to Windows or is my model incompatible with this process

thanks for not showing a fix to the error message if sudo is running in a container, you may need to adjust the container configuration to disable the flag

I got windows 10 on my chromebook and I recommend if you don't have an external harddrive or if you have the built-in storage is soldered on I would not get windows on a chromebook I would just get chrome os flex and use the Linux inverment or get something like Ubuntu or zorin os due too a lack of storage space I found that out the hard way

Hi Brandon great video! I'm struggling with one part during the install, when I click "Custom install" then try to delete the disk 0 partitions I get an error: "We couldn't delete the selected partition. [Error: 0x800701b1]" I've been trying to troubleshoot this for a few days now and getting no luck. Note: I'm attempting to install windows 10 on a Dell Chromebook 13 (Lulu) Any suggestions?

Press shift and f10 to open cmd during windows install Then type diskpart Select disk 0 or whatever drive is the right amount of storage Clean Hope this works!

This happened to me after i removed the usb while doing this process, if you did try making sure the usb is plugged in while your doing the installation.

If ctrl-D doesn't do anything for you, or it gets stuck on an OS verification or recovery screen, create a USB recovery drive using the Chromebook Recovery Tool extension to reinstall ChromeOS, then try it again. That worked for my Dell 3180, at least

Great instructions. I just installed Win_11 on a newer Lenovo 11th gen w/8gb and it works great (paid $45 for the unit on eBay just for this). The problem I ran into was disabling the write-protect now that the ChromeOS update gives you a "The "no new privileges" flag is set, which prevents sudo from running as root" message.

I'm thinking about doing this with an Asus Chromebook 2 which is no longer supported by Google but is a good machine still. To me it looks like a complex process and I am not confident to work at this level. But I know a man who can ;-) Your presentation looks like an excellent guide for him and could save me buying a new PC while not wasting good older hardware. Good for eco and bad for deliberate obsolescence.

Hello Brandon Yen. It asks me for a password when i'm doing the cmd tab stuff when in developer mode. This is only after I enter the last command and the one before it. Also, question; is it reversable any point before the cmd or at the cmd when u get that 'menu' made in the cmd tab created. Also, question again; do we have to follow that process, or if we magically find a way to get it to boot off of the usb or portable drive with windows then does it do the same?

sudo: The "no new privileges" flag is set, which prevents sudo from running as root. sudo: If sudo is running in a container, you may need to adjust the container configuration to disable the flag. Any Solution for this type of issue, Brandon? Appreciate your quick and prompt response. I got the same on my ASUS CX1500CN running Chrome OS v 120.xxxx and can not download firmware or do anything forward.

For anyone who gets the error he said read the Page this happened because of a change in ChromeOS REALLY READ THIS: Under ChromeOS, starting with R117, this script must be run from a VT2 terminal (from login screen: CTRL+ALT+F2, login 'chronos'); it cannot be run from a crosh shell (CTRL+ALT+T when logged in) due to the removal of sudo, or from a crostini (penguin) terminal; crostini is a virtualized container and lacks the necessary access to read or modify the firmware. This should fix the error As this did in fact work The F2 key is the -> Arrow in the keyboard To get out the VT2 terminal You have to do the same keyboard shortcut as you used to enter but this time instead of pressing F2 you have to press F1 which is the

I wanted to install OS Win10 in my Chromebook but when I check in Developer information List that you give, it appears that the audio is supported YES (PAID), but what does it mean. ? the command to flash the firmware doesn't do anything, it mostly fails. I also tried crouton method but I guess it's not possible to use it in some countries.

I follow the instructions but when trying to install the firmware utility I get a "no new priveleges" flag is set error and I cannot go any further. With the battery disconnect I am able to power on my Galaxy Chromebook but I cannot enable or disable OS verification, it starts to boot the device into developer mode but powers off. Did I miss a step? Or should I connect the battery back after Disconnecting it?
