I just finished a '49 Pan with a Baker 6 into 4 and a Tech Cycle Electric Start kit with a Primary Belt drive, and we had to do similar mods to get the belt drive to fit inside the tin primary covers. It all ended up fitting and working perfectly, and I LOVE ❤️ the electric start. I'm 71 years old, and my knees aren't what they once were.
I have the tech cycle STARTER after market kit on my 81 FXWG. since 92 not a problem since than an it's 2023 still going strong. Great product. Awesome
Man that's a beautiful color! Do you know what it's called? My Fatboy is pearl read ad Mt buddies is scarlet red. Almost the same but mine has a golden pearl.
Not sure about ur brother's FB, but on an old FXE shovel, a certain amount of leaking is normal. AKA "marking it's spot". In fact, if it doesn't drip a little it's worrying. This ofcourse is because of the chain oiler system etc, but I was getting more drips than I wanted. When I replaced the rear chain & drive sprocket, the reassembly basically forced my decision 2 go 2a dry primary. Ty4 watching & commenting.
It looks complex because of the oil lines need in the lube system for the closed primary chain drive system ... alot more messy at times as well ... haha
I have an 81 FXWG with a 3in belt drive put in on in 1992. Open belt. Tech cycle after market starter kit . Crane duel firer electric ignition 4Hi. All steel braided oil lines AN Fittings. S@S stroker kit 86 ci. 514 cam . Did all this in 1991. Still have the Kicker . Runs great 👍 👌
All hd clutches are dry. A chain primary only has oil for the chain. The clutch seats the disc tight enough almost no oil gets into the clutch what does is no concern.
Good move brother, I have the BDL on my Sucker Punch Sally, with the open belt, it's the only way to fly Bud, ride safe and keep the kneese in the breeze brother 👍🏼💯
Interesting upgrade. I've encountered videos of conversions to final belt drive before, but not primary. But perhaps it is particular to some H-D bikes?
your welcome , well the primary's on the chain drive systems are closed but the belted systems are either partially open (like mine) or completely open. This is done to increase air flow into the primary case a reduce heat stress on the belt.
I’d love to go to a belt primary. I disconnected the oil lines from my primary and also the chain oiler. Now I just have the lines from the pump to the tank with a inline filter.
Great video! Thinking of doing the same. BTW, that drop of persistent oil is most likely your main drive bushing and your transmission seal. Also, you can eliminate the need to manually oil your chain by installing an “O” ring chain.
