What’s up everybody? Today’s video is a quick overview and install of a KENWOOD DMX907S stereo receiver with wireless Apple CarPlay to my 2016 Ram 2500 Tradesman Cummins. I ordered the head unit from Amazon and posted the link below. I ordered all needed wiring for this install from www.Crutchfield.com. I chatted with a representative from Crutchfield and told them what truck I had and what stereo I planned on installing and they set up the cart for me to purchase everything needed (wiring harness, hd antenna, usb hub, splitter, and dash kit) which was extremely easy and convenient.

Great video... The Kenwood's are my favorite aftermarket radio's. I have a DNX995S in my RAM 2500 and love it. The great thing is - it does everything the factory head unit does. The most important feature for me was the settings for the trailer brake. The only way to switch back and forth from Light Electric brake to Heavy Electric brake is thru the radio head unit. I made the guy at Freeman's Car Stereo show me that the Kenwood head units supported the trailer brake configurations before I would let them install it... 😁 - but it works super nicely and supports every function of the factory unit. BTW... your truck is nice as hell bro.

I am having hell getting my factory camera to work. Same truck basically. Same wiring harness basically. Is there some sort of trick? Also what is the process to program the chimes? The instructions are quite vague.

Yeah I think I had to do some trial and error with other wires coming off the back of the unit that eventually worked.

Great video, I'm installing a Kenwood DMX 907s, my radio section does not work ie FM staions. I have a regular antenna connected. I noticed you purchased a HD antenna adapter from Crutchfield. Not sure what that does, called Crutchfield, they said that I don't need it because the radio is a hd radio. Android auto works perfect. I had a Kenwood single din hd radio back in 2012 in another car, worked with a regular antenna. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

2017 tradesman - the reverse camera is mirrored on both your rear view and on your radio? You didn’t need that idatalink maestro shit?

I don't know if I should spend the extra money for the dmx957xr. It's pretty much this radio with a better screen.

This radio I have is very nice. No complaints. However, if you can get a better screen for a “little” more I’d say do it. If it’s a lot more money I’d say pass.

i think the dmx908s is a short chassis and you might not have needed to cut as much of your truck.

I’m not sure, I don’t think so as a standard but maybe there is an add on? However, this unit links through apple car play so I get my weather that way.

Did the headliner microphones for the phone still work or did you have to do anything to make them work?

It came with one mic that I stuck to the dash panel behind the steering wheel and it works just as good now as day one.

Every video I’ve found is someone replacing their small factory. I have the 8.4 touchscreen. With no auto a/c function of dual climate function. It’s a 2016 so no apple car play. And I want apple car play but like I said I haven’t found one with the same factory set up as mine. Is it the same to do ??

Should be the same, you may need a different mounting bracket and different wire harness though. Just contact Crutchfield tech support or any other car audio company and they can help assist you with the correct parts.

How did you connect your backup camera to the headunit? What kind of connector if any did you need?

I believe I just did some trial and error and touched a few different wires together to see which worked since the back up camera wire was not clearly labeled. It took me a little while but Once I found the right wire I spliced/soldered them together.

When you shift into reverse, does the backup camera automatically come up? Or do you have to press a camera icon as you did in the video at 15:19?

It automatically comes on now. I had to adjust for this in the settings as you can choose which way your prefer. It works perfect.

Do the steering controls still work with it?

I don’t have radio controls on my steering wheel but if you do, this unit will work you may just need an adapter harness.

I’m sorry, I did not test that and don’t have a trailer at this time. I would assume so since the harness was a complete match.

You can upload pics through usb as wallpapers but I’m not sure about boot up screen? Maybe it can be programmed but I’m not sure?

Yeah, I believe once you use it in Apple car play and then get out the vehicle, when you get back in mine goes back to Apple car play where I left off.
